Araneus saevus 'Giant Lichen Orbweaver' (?) in the dead grasses. Thanks to Lynette and the experts at BugGuide.net for the ID. Old Scout Camp, Bow Valley Provincial Park, 5989September_30__2010
If anyone can identify the genus and species then this is information I would love to know!
Photographed in Lawachara National Park, Bangladesh.
I think this is an Orb Weaver. Unfortunately all I had was my little point-n-shoot camera. Focus gets better about six seconds in.
In today's parlance, a web is something that exists in cyberspace. But does anybody remember what a real web looks like?
Micrathena gracilis--in my back yard. I went through gyrations trying to get my tripod under it without disturbing the web. Finally adjusted settings to get a well-lit background, with flash fill lighting up the spider fairly well.

An interesting spider which has built a nest with a hinged door which it can pull shut when feeling threatened. Found during a night hike in Iwokrama rainforest reserve.
For a greater selection of photos which include different angles and species ask by pm to be added to my friend's list.
Yesterday the tire flew off my minibus, I cut the head off a pit viper and I was banned from a commercial flight by associating with a narco-trafficker. Today I am bushwhacking through the jungle in the remote trail-less backwaters of Guyana, waist deep in water and praying to make it through the rest of the day alive. What will tomorrow bring? God only knows. The adventure starts here- pbertner.wordpress.com/.
Order: Araneae. Family: Araneidae. Species: Araneus diadematus (Clerck, 1758). Also known as the European Garden Spider, Diadem Spider or Cross Spider. Native to central and northern Europe. (Salem, MA)
Orbweaver, Neoscona crucifera, see BugGuide--the rusty-brown coloration and lack of abdominal pattern is distinctive for this species. This is a female, and was swept out of some vegetation, Goldenrods, I believe, or perhaps wingstem, Verbesina.
Part of a Bioblitz at Mason Farm Biological Reserve.

Heidi spotted this well-camouflaged long-jawed orbweaver in Sabine Woods near Port Arthur, Texas, USA. April 21, 2022.
Probably Araneus trifolium, the Shamrock Orbweaver. The body is about a centimetre long. On the garage wall.
Amazing how the flash overexposed this shot. Interesting effect though.
