"While spending a great deal of time in the forests and shores surrounding Lake Michigan and Wycamp Lake, Smolak observed the artistic beauty inherent in nature. The twisted and tormented forms of trees, roots and driftwood collected by Smolak from the surrounding area, along with the stones washed smooth and round by Lake Michigan's waters, aroused the artist in him - and from them he created this unusual building, fixtures and furniture. He once said: "Nature is the greatest sculptor - I am only helping to make the artistic objects more visible to the ordinary eye." "
Captured in frontyard, in the orange/lime tree.
Some species from the Araneidae family (common orb weavers). Obviously female. I think the genus is Neoscona.
Because there are so many different species of Orb Weavers, they differ in colour shape and size. The commonly seen Garden Orb Weavers are 2 to 3 centimetres in length for the female and 1.5 to 2 centimetres for the male in body length
Backobourkia (Heroine?)
Home
This big bodied spider lives in our front-yard and compared to the huntsmen and white-tails is actually one worth looking at (and "keeping" which is a big deal, having that usual fear of spiders).
What caught my eye was instead of being parked in the usual retracted ball it was having a munch of a pretty big catch. Looks like a lacewing.
2005 IJsseltocht met geomanten. Foto is gemaakt door Frits, het was net begonnen te sneeuwen en de zon was net onder
See Orb-weaver 0690 adjacent. The presumed male is at centre left in this shot - it was constantly on the move as I was taking these photos.
Orbs
A Club
3/28/11
Adam was the only member actually lit on stage, so no shots of the others really turned out
Another mural from the Villa dei Mysterei at Pompeii, showing lots of 'orbs'. According to paranormal experts, these orbs are the first stage in spiritual manifestation (ie ghosts). According to the rest of us, they're a peculiar refraction of light on dust, moisture or other particles.
Giant Orb Spider Weaver The web of this spider spanned 5 yards and she was a little larger than 6-inches. I watched her capture a couple insects, cocoon quickly, and then drop back to the center of the web head down. This shot was taken in Morogoro, Tanzania
finally some progress on the ORB quilts
I split up my 7 rows in order to get 2 quilts out of this
one quilt (here) has 3 strips, 6 blocks each. I used the scraps and cut a few extra 4" strips and made a 4' strip on either long side. It should end up a twin size.
The other with 4 strips of 6 blocks each, is wide enough, but the other scraps will go on the short end of that quilt. Does that make sense?
these orbs were photographed during a paranormal investigation at Jesse Rodgers cemetery in Mary Esther Florida.
Sunday September 12 2010 At Devils Dyke: Orb 360 zorbing, mountain boarding, mountain biking, Kites, Paragliding and hang gliding
This is a tiny spider - about 3mm body+head. It's taken up residence in the conservatory. I think it's an Orb Web spider but I could easily be wrong. I caught it in an empty
yogurt pot destined for re-cycling. It would not stop running about though to have it's photo taken. Did best I could.
