Interior of the church Santa Maria Maddalena - a Baroque church, for the order Ministri degli Infirmi which had a church on this spot since 1586. The work on the current church was begun in the 17th century in the Baroque style (and the main main facade was actually finished in the 1730s in the Rococo style (after some 70 years of work on the church). Several architects were involved in this long process, and the dome is thought to be the work of Carlo Fontana.

The Baroque church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, Rome. Work on the church began in 1562 - after plans made by Michelangelo - when it was built into the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian. It is one of the titular basilica churches of Rome.

If you are wondering what a co-cathedral is, that is what you get when you are in a diocese that already has a cathedral (in Mdina), but thinks another church is just as a grand and important (if not more so). So the bishop can use it as an alternative cathedral. This solution dates to 1820s, when the knights had left. Initially the cathedral was called Chiesa Conventuale di San Giovanni Battista (yes, it had an Italian name - in English that is Conventual Church of St. John)

The Church of the Society of Jesus (Spanish: La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús), known colloquially as la Compañía, is a Jesuit church in Quito, Ecuador. It is among the best-known churches in Quito because of its large central nave, which is profusely decorated with gold leaf, gilded plaster and wood carvings. Inspired by two Roman Jesuit churches — the Chiesa del Gesù (1580) and the Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola (1650) — la Compañía is one of the most significant works of Spanish Baroque architecture in South America.
When it was finished in 1627 this dome was the third biggest in Rome (the bigger ones being Pantheon and St Peter's). The paintings were made by Giovanni Lanfranco and Domenichino.
In the Baroque church Sant'Andrea della Valle, initially begun in 1590 and finished in 1650.

A sanctuary of quiet opulence, where traditional Arabesque grandeur meets contemporary luxury.

By choosing an angle that excludes people, the image feels like an exclusive, untouched sanctuary.
The intricate patterns on the base of the fountain basin, the latticework on the lanterns, and the smooth polished stone create a rich tactile experience for the viewer.
The structural arches in the foreground and midground act as natural frames. This technique isolates the central focal point and draws the eye deeper into the background layers of the architecture.
The repeated vertical lines of the massive columns provide stability and scale, while the geometric checkerboard patterns on the floor introduce dynamic textures that lead the eye inward.
The image relies on high-contrast lighting, balancing bright focal points with deep, dark shadows in the upper ceilings and side corridors. This creates a dramatic, mysterious, and upscale ambiance.
There is a beautiful interplay of light temperatures. The overall scene is bathed in a warm, inviting golden glow from the ambient fixtures and side lanterns. However, the water within the central fountain is lit by a cooler, crisp white light. This color temperature contrast makes the water pop as a distinct element.
The light reflecting off the polished marble floors softens the harshness of the direct bulbs, creating a glossy, mirroring effect that enhances the luxurious feel of the space.

The Palais Garnier, also known as Opéra Garnier,, is a historic 1,979-seat opera house at the Place de l'Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built for the Paris Opera from 1861 to 1875 at the behest of Emperor Napoleon III. Initially referred to as le nouvel Opéra de Paris (the new Paris Opera), it soon became known as the Palais Garnier, "in acknowledgment of its extraordinary opulence" and the architect Charles Garnier's plans and designs, which are representative of the Napoleon III style. It was the primary theatre of the Paris Opera and its associated Paris Opera Ballet until 1989, when a new opera house, the Opéra Bastille, opened at the Place de la Bastille. The Palais Garnier has been called "probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, or the Sacré Coeur Basilica". This is at least partly due to its use as the setting for Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera and, especially, the novel's subsequent adaptations in films and the popular 1986 musical. From the opulence of Eliseevsky grocery store, Alla (our guide) took us to Arbat Street, a pedestrian street in the historic centre of Moscow. The Arbat has existed since the 15th century, making it one of the oldest surviving streets of the Russian capital. Originally the street formed part of an important trade-route and was home to craftsmen.
In the 18th century, the Russian nobility came to regard the Arbat as the most prestigious living area in Moscow. Almost completely destroyed in the great fire of 1812, the street was rebuilt In the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the Soviet period, it housed many high-ranking government officials.
Now it has been gentrified and is considered a desirable place to live. Because of the many historic buildings, and artists who live and work here, the Arbat has become a trendy part of the city.
We ended our visit at a restaurant where we had a meal of dishes from southern Russia. There was music and entertainment, and the most divine food, sweets and Turkish coffee.
A visit to Witley Court and Gardens, in Worcestershire, England. A Victorian party palace, now a striking ruined mansion, with sweeping gardens, and impressive water features. Imagine all of the people that would have walked through this entrance to view the Perseus and Andromeda fountain in the distance. a bygone era of summer balls, distinguished guests and pure opulence. Hi friends, here is my newest work called "Opulence Meets Color"! It´s a re-edit of my photo "Opulence" with a bit of color to it. I actually wanted to edit the original "Opulence" like this, but in the end, I decided to turn it into full B&W. But, the red lights were a bit too interesting to just be forgotten, so that´s why I´ve made this one.
