The Cadillac V-16 (also known as the Cadillac Sixteen) was Cadillac's top-of-the-line model from its January 1930 launch until 1940. The V16 powered car was a first in the United States, both extremely expensive and exclusive, with every chassis being custom-finished to order. Only 4,076 were constructed in its 11-year run, with the majority built in its debut year before the Great Depression took strong hold. The onset of World War II reduced the sales, resulting in its demise.

In 1926, Cadillac began the development of a new, "multi-cylinder" car. A customer requirement was seen for a car powered by an engine simultaneously more powerful and smoother than any other available. Development proceeded in great secrecy over the next few years; a number of prototype cars were built and tested as the new engine was developed, while at the same time Cadillac chief Larry Fisher and GM's stylist Harley Earl toured Europe in search of inspiration from Europe's finest coachbuilders. Unlike many builders of luxury cars, who sold bare chassis to be clothed by outside coachbuilding firms, General Motors had purchased the coachbuilders Fleetwood Metal Body and Fisher Body to keep all the business in-house. Cadillac rolling stock chassis could be purchased if a buyer insisted, but the intention was that few would need to do so.

Interior of the church Santa Maria Maddalena - a Baroque church, for the order Ministri degli Infirmi which had a church on this spot since 1586. The work on the current church was begun in the 17th century in the Baroque style (and the main main facade was actually finished in the 1730s in the Rococo style (after some 70 years of work on the church). Several architects were involved in this long process, and the dome is thought to be the work of Carlo Fontana.

The Baroque church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, Rome. Work on the church began in 1562 - after plans made by Michelangelo - when it was built into the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian. It is one of the titular basilica churches of Rome.

The Church of the Society of Jesus (Spanish: La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús), known colloquially as la Compañía, is a Jesuit church in Quito, Ecuador. It is among the best-known churches in Quito because of its large central nave, which is profusely decorated with gold leaf, gilded plaster and wood carvings. Inspired by two Roman Jesuit churches — the Chiesa del Gesù (1580) and the Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola (1650) — la Compañía is one of the most significant works of Spanish Baroque architecture in South America.

This is the ceiling in the Baroque cathedral St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta. The church was first built 1573-78, after a design by Girolamo Cassar, born in Malta, but got its current looks in the century after. It was the main church of worship for the knights of St John (who dominated the island in the 17th and 18th centuries).

If you are wondering what a co-cathedral is, that is what you get when you are in a diocese that already has a cathedral (in Mdina), but thinks another church is just as a grand and important (if not more so). So the bishop can use it as an alternative cathedral. This solution dates to 1820s, when the knights had left. Initially the cathedral was called Chiesa Conventuale di San Giovanni Battista (yes, it had an Italian name - in English that is Conventual Church of St. John)

When it was finished in 1627 this dome was the third biggest in Rome (the bigger ones being Pantheon and St Peter's). The paintings were made by Giovanni Lanfranco and Domenichino.

In the Baroque church Sant'Andrea della Valle, initially begun in 1590 and finished in 1650.

A moody sky helped to bring some of the ornate opulence of the Clock Tower at Cliveden to the fore.

This was a stop off point on the journey down to Eurotunnel. A place I'd never visited before and a National Trust site steeped in history, most notably brought to the public's attention by the "Profumo Scandal". It is actually the most visited National Trust venue in the UK.

This tower is actually a functioning water tower, still providing water to the House today. It is 100 feet in height and built in 1861 by the architect Henry Clutton. It has 4 clock faces and is topped by a golden statue of Le Génie de la Liberté (the Spirit of Liberty), a replica of one in the Place de la Bastille in Paris. It is covered by two layers of 23.5 carat gold costing over £70,000. (Hmmm my climbing skills have not been tested for a while!)
