iI´ve done this to a zeiss optimized f1.5 lens and took one shim out, thus making it f2.8 opt.
All the trick is about shims, they work making the rear element getting closer or farther from the front one.
The focal distance never changes.
But the distance from the rear element to the focal plane does.
Over the course of a few months I made several trips out Yankee Jim's Rd and photoed this seasonal fall. The water level fluctuated depending on how much recent rain there had been. The viewpoint is limited due to the narrow little gulch it flows within. I'm standing at the edge of the road for these images.
