The 89th TransMontana was not the only one exceptional LEMA in Ferencváros. This machine, the first one from the 481 class has arrived to the country for several tests more, than a week ago. There are several differences between the 480 class Montanas and this. Its not completely new as it was built on a renewed 060-EA chassis. Moreover, it's optimised for operating with passenger coaches so it can control their built in systems, not just supply the appropriate type of electric energy for them.

With my wonderful K3 broken and caput due to a bike accident I have spent much of the day setting up my old K5IIs for macro shots. With a tendency to back focus I have had to reset the fine control on the AF menu and alter the focal length as well as optimise for a macro lens. Not looking too bad but the image can be a little grainy so need to keep ISO to 400 or below, not easy with all the clouds and wind we have at the moment although my K5 has always been better in low light conditions as is the reason I used to use this camera in deep woods for fungi. The proof of the pudding, taking it out in the field tomorow to take another look at the Monkey's. Fingers crossed and the season may continue after all!
This image was taken as a jpeg image (unintentionally) and in manual mode with my Sony RX100. I noticed how a giant overhead neon billboard lit up the cars passing by and took many jittery handheld slow-shutter blur shots along this sidestreet next to a nearby shopping complex.
Processing a jpeg is not ideal, but it seemed to give it a flat and clean look that likely would have differed from a raw file. After clearing up the image in Topaz Denoise, I then saved the image as a DNG file and processed the image in Adobe Camera Raw. After some minor colour and tone tweaks in PS and Lr, I then optimised the contrast in Photomatix.

This is a Spitfire LF Mk Vb . The Mk V version was built in larger numbers than any other mark, Externally very similar to the Mk I, the later grey/green camouflage is a clue to it being a Mk V. The Mk V had a more powerful engine than the Mk 1 - this one, EP120, has a RR Merlin 55M which was optimised for low level flying (LF). LFs often had the trade mark elliptical wing tips removed. Not all LF models have clipped wings - but (virtually) all clipped wing models are LF, although it is the different supercharger that defines the LF model, not the wing tips. This Spitfire is fitted with the type 'b' wing - one canon and two machine guns each side. The 'a' wing had 4 machine guns each side, the universal 'c' wing could be fitted with either of the above permutations or two canon each side.

Over the past days I have had a slight attack of GAS thinking I need another camera besides my beloved X100F.
As you can see by my last posts I have been going through my archives of shots.
Well today everything is back to normal. I took a really good look at my photographs I took in Cuba with the X100F.
This is a jpeg OOC which I have slightly optimised in Lightroom.

Designed by Camarc in Scotland, the vessel has a refined double chine hull and a resiliently mounted wheelhouse to optimise noise and vibration for crew comfort. A pair of 1,000 hp diesels ensures a speed of 25 to 28 knots.

Color science can be a bit of a fallacy especially since most people are talking about in-camera JPEG colors.
Next, pleasing colors are not necessarily correct and correct colors are not always attractive.
I struggled with “Sony colors” initially years ago when I first got into Sony although it was mostly down to my lack of post processing skills. I was already shooting with Nikon and Olympus then. My preference was Nikon and Olympus colors, not that one was better than the other but rather, it’s all a matter of “preference”. Certain brand fanbois shills like to turn what is essentially a matter of preference into an absolute qualitative statement especially when it’s not even a problem of the RAW files.
The fundamental problem was not the Sony RAW files but a lack of a dedicated RAW developer that is optimised for Sony files for most users who are not sophisticated enough to create their own color profile.
Raw files don't really store any colors per pixel. They only store a single brightness value per pixel, Bayer interpolation takes place in the software opening the raw data. It’s the RAW developer that affects color the most, not so much the camera since the signals in the RAW file are not colors.
Canon, Nikon and Olympus always had their in-house designed native RAW developers.
Sony users get to use Capture One (“Express” version is free), a 3rd party RAW developer which personally was not properly optimised for Sony files and needed to be tweaked in the earlier versions. The latest version of Capture One however finally seems to have reached an entirely different level with much less tweaking necessary.

Once upon a time ... in a small, idyllic village on the edge of a large forest, where the villagers have a lot of work to do in the fields, meadows and woods.
A long summer's day is coming to an end and it is slowly getting dark. The lights in the houses come on and gradually everyone returns home.
Time to rest.
Even the birds go to rest, even the wind in the trees is just a gentle breeze.
A kitten comes out of the house, there, just to the left, pauses for a moment on the path and, shoo, it's gone again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This could be the beginning of the story for my new children's book, for which I also need a picture.
The picture is based on an older photo of mine, supplemented by text prompts in an AI tool.
But it was too dull and cold.
In PS I optimised the colours, corrected incorrectly created details, made the treetops fuller, made improvements in general by painting and ... of course, I added a kitten.
Abends, wenn es still wird im Dorf ...
Es war einmal ... in einem kleinen idyllischen Dorf am Rande eines großen Waldes, in dem die Dorfbewohner viel Arbeit auf den Feldern, Wiesen und im Wald haben.
Ein langer Sommertag geht zu Ende und langsam wird es dunkel. Die Lichter in den Häusern gehen an und nach und nach finden sich alle zu Hause ein.
Zeit zum Ausruhen.
Auch die Vögel begeben sich zur Ruhe, sogar der Wind in den Bäumen ist nur noch ein leiser Hauch.
Ein Kätzchen kommt aus dem Haus, da, gleich links, verharrt einen Moment auf dem Weg und, husch, ist es schon wieder verschwunden.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Managed a quick shot of two guys in canoes who came down the falls of Shin, whilst the salmon were leaping. I had been taking long exposure shots when they appeared at top of the falls. I was a bit too slow to optimise the camera settings but you can get a feeling for the energy of the water and the action.
The Taj is a mausoleum commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. One of the best known buildings in the world and designated as UNESCO World Heritage site.
The gigantic project deploys sophisticated crafts and architecture, even sound was used to enhance the everlasting connection, with interior shapes and niches optimised to lengthen echo effects. The fine ivory-white marble is decorated with engraved and inlaid floral ornaments representing different species.
The builders however did not plan for the marble to turn a yellow-brownish hue, caused mostly by man-made pollution in the last 50 odd years. When i visited back in 2016 the 1st ever cleaning of the Taj was near completion and the results were stunning. Do go visit if you have a chance, but go soon before the next layer accumulates.

Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level, since its main purpose is to optimise the space inside. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest.
The Avedøre Power Station (Danish: Avedøreværket) is a combined heat and power station, located in Avedøre, Denmark, just south of Copenhagen, and is owned by Ørsted A/S. Avedøre Power Plant is a high-technology facility and one of the world's most efficient of its kind, being able to utilize as much as 94% of the energy in the fuel and convert 49% of the fuel energy into electricity. Apart from using coal, petroleum (oil) and natural gas, the plant runs on a wide variety of biomass fuels such as straw and wood pellets. The plant consists of two units with a total capacity of 793 MW of electricity and 918 MW of heat. The combination of producing electricity (combined heat and power) and heat for district heating at the same time is widely used in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia, due to the need of domestic (and industrial) heating together with the Danish energy companies putting a big effort into optimising the energy plants.
The Avedøre Power Station was designed by the architects Claus Bjarrum and Jørgen Hauxner.

Red/Common Crossbill - Loxia Curvirostra (m)
The crossbill is a genus, Loxia, of birds in the finch family (Fringillidae), with six species. These birds are characterised by the mandibles with crossed tips, which gives the group its English name. Adult males tend to be red or orange in colour, and females green or yellow, but there is much variation.
Crossbills are specialist feeders on conifer cones, and the unusual bill shape is an adaptation which enables them to extract seeds from cones. These birds are typically found in higher northern hemisphere latitudes, where their food sources grow. They erupt out of the breeding range when the cone crop fails. Crossbills breed very early in the year, often in winter months, to take advantage of maximum cone supplies.
The different species specialise in feeding on different conifer species, with the bill shape optimised for opening that species of conifer. This is achieved by inserting the bill between the conifer cone scales and twisting the lower mandible towards the side to which it crosses, enabling the bird to extract the seed at the bottom of the scale with its tongue.
The mechanism by which the bill-crossing (which usually, but not always, occurs in a 1:1 frequency of left-crossing or right-crossing morphs) is developed, and what determines the direction, has hitherto withstood all attempts to resolve it.
It is very probable that there is a genetic basis underlying the phenomenon (young birds whose bills are still straight will give a cone-opening behavior if their bills are gently pressed, and the crossing develops before the birds are fledged and feeding independently), but at least in the red crossbill (the only species which has been somewhat thoroughly researched regarding this question) there is no straightforward mechanism of heritability.

°°°°°°°°°°°
The Artemis III mission has been in the works for many years and the broader Artemis program is expected to cost many billions of dollars. The last time anyone stepped foot on the Moon was in 1972 during the Apollo 17 mission, so to say it is vital that everything goes according to plan, including concerning the HULC, would be an understatement.
The Artemis III mission will also be the longest lunar mission ever. Two astronauts will spend about a week conducting various investigations and experiments on the lunar surface. The HULC needs to be able to handle the lengthy trip without fail.
The customized NIKON Z9 they are taking to the Moon not only features different protective equipment and hardware, but the camera functionality itself will be tweaked. Nikon is developing custom firmware that simplifies FTP protocols, optimizes shutter behavior for the environment, improves HDR functionality, and changes the menu layout and file naming structure.

Großer Windkanal, Berlin Adlershof
"The large wind tunnel was built between 1932 and 1934. It was used for aerodynamic experiments in air streams at speeds of over 200 km/h. The air stream was generated by a rotor with eight impellers, 8.5 metres across, connected to an electric motor with an output of 2,000 kW. The tubular plant has external dimensions of 58 m x 26 m and a diameter of 8.5 m - 12 m. It was used to direct an air stream on to aircraft parts (wings, coatings, tail, etc.) in a measuring chamber, where the resistance was measured. This enabled aircraft shape and surfaces to be optimised. A particular feature of this wind tunnel - still remarkable today - is its concrete construction using the Zeiss-Dywidag method with a wall thickness of just 8 cm. The large wind tunnel was given to Humboldt-Universität."

In a shot taken from high up on The Keep, class 37 no. 37059 passes lazily through Newcastle station on a light engine move.
In the left distance an unidentified class 03 shunter (possibly 03061 or 03094) sees gainful employment marshalling a rake of parcels vans. Meanwhile, on the right, the suburban platforms are still open with passengers in the process of disembarking a Metropolitan Cammell unit which had arrived moments before.
The infamous diamond crossings at this end of the station are supplemented by a nice array of double and single slips, together constituting a layout more consistent with the needs of the steam age and sizeable amounts of freight and parcels traffic.
Traffic patterns have changed of course and the current track layout has been simplified almost beyond recognition (sadly, no diamonds), helped in part by the removal of the suburban platforms, the area having been converted to a car park.
I was travelling on a week-long Eastern Region Rail Rover at the time, and only going home every second day to change clothes and get a decent night's rest. Just how restful was questionable though - eager to optimise my time out I was taking the first train to Grantham out of Nottingham, which entailed a four mile walk in from Beeston given the lack of a connecting train. The stamina, or folly, of youth - you decide.
Will stand full-screen viewing.

Amnye Machen is one of the four main holy mountains of Tibet along with Kailash-Gangs Rinpoche, Gongga and Meili Xue. Located in Golog ,it rises to 6282m / 20,605 feet.
The higher peak on this picture is Chenrezig 6268m,more to the right is Amnye Machen 6090m,all to the right is Dradul Lungshok 6282m. Amnye Machen is situated between these two higher peaks. acording to this map; www.jonaldridge.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/0008_...
This lesser known holy mountain is equally as important to the Tibetan people as the more well known Mt. Kailash (Gang Rinpoche). Amnye Machen attracts Tibetan pilgrims from all across eastern and northern Tibet (pictured below) during the summer months. The only people found around the mountain are nomad Tibetans. A trek around the holy mountain normally takes 7 to 10 days. There are many rivers and streams to cross over so having yaks and horses are essential. Most of the trek is above 4600m / 15,090 feet. The best time to do the trek around the mountain is from late June to early September. Even during these months, nights can be very cold and snow is possible. During the winter, the lows can reach -30C making it a bad time to do the trek.
