Kurds, from darkness to light

An independent region since 2003, Iraqi Kurdistan, war-torn for many years, is little known among Westerners. Through his work in the humanist photographic tradition, Emmanuel Smague invites us to discover a warm people as it emerges from the oppression of Saddam Hussein’s regime. He reveals to us the many faces of this part of the world where people constitute the main wealth and he opens our eyes to people who are refugees on their own land -- the land of their ancestors. Through Emmanuel Smague’s testimonial, our eyes meet the gaze of the Kurds’ eyes lifting the veil of our indifference and indelibly engraving images deep into our memories.

There were men that died young

But aware that their ideas will last for centuries

As important words, unbroken and real as little miracles

Ideas of equality, ideas of education

Against every man that exercises oppression

Against everyone against a weaker one

Against he who buries his conscience in the cement

Sometimes I still dream of how we used to stand up to the oppression

youtu.be/lNIbfeLy1j4

This photo could symbolize many things. Suppression of little people; Dictatorship; Deep State; Big Brother; oppression against women. In fact, it represents the opposite. Jan Žižka led an army of peasants, little people against the powerful Roman Empire and they were victorious due his clever military tactics for many years (1419-1434) even after his death in 1424. Equipped with simple modified farming tools, his small army demonstrated the Power of People. The monumental bronze statue was sculpted by B. Kafka in 1931-1941 and is part of Vítkov National Monument. Žižka historical heroics are always on the mind of the Czech folk, when their freedoms are in jeopardy.

"I Rise"

We cannot let ourselves be changed by hatred.

We can change the oppression of women if we speak up, stand together, and rise.

You can recognize survivors of abuse by their courage. When silence is so very inviting, they step forward and share their truth so others know they aren’t alone.

in an age of terrorism, violence, hate and ignorance, people seem to think about protecting our freedom by taking it away piece by piece for the sake of "security". Mesmerized and numb amidst the endless stream of entertainment provided by mass media, we watch in apathy how people turn our society of freedom into a society of oppression, control, surveillance and fear. And so far, we do not really care... Some days ago, German government has agreed upon a law to force telecommunication companies into long-term retention of all sorts of communication data for the sake of "fighting terrorism", and the next steps already are clearly outlined: Preventive surveillance, a "trojan horse" software developed by government and security services in order to have hidden access to personal computers while they're online, massive use of biometrical data (fingerprints, ...) in personal ID cards and passports and so on... we're merrily building "1984"...

There is unrest in the forest

Trouble with the trees

For the maples want more sunlight

And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples

(And they're quite convinced they're right)

They say the oaks are just too lofty

And they grab up all the light

But the oaks can't help their feelings

If they like the way they're made

And they wonder why the maples

Can't be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest

And the creatures all have fled

As the maples scream, "Oppression"

And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union

And demanded equal rights

They say, "The oaks are just too greedy

We will make them give us light"

Now there's no more oak oppression

For they passed a noble law

And the trees are all kept equal

By hatchet, axe, and saw

There will be

Rays of sun in the wood after the fog

They will make you suffer.

They pretend it’s just a tickling game

But they won’t stop.

They will say you don’t matter

or they are just trying stuff out

They say “just be cool” and relax

It’s all your fault

You should just calm down.

W’ere only playing with you!

When you want to run away

They chide you and call you a coward.

Even when it is your own self preservation.

They claim they aren’t poison

and that you must sacrifice like your life isn’t worth anything and

as if you deserve to suffer.

And you must say no.

And you must reject the negative self concept they impose.

And yes, you must run.

Not everyone is kind.

Not everyone can be converted.

They will eat you alive….in one big gulp.

Sometimes you just want to see where things go, what lies at the end of the road or up that alley, over the mountain around that bend and sometimes you just want to capture that thought. Some of my most favorite scenes while traveling though maybe not my most popular come from the absolute opposite direction that everyone else is looking.

Speaking of opposite directions during WWII the town was vocally anti-fascist making it a target for Mussolini’s death squads resulting in the assassination of its Mayor but the citizens were undeterred and continued their protests of Fascism and civil disobedience until the end of the war. After the fall of Fascism in Aug 1945 the townspeople began to exile the landowners tied to the failed regime and repatriate all lands seized by Mussolini’s operations

Ferrandina has lived through many occupations over the millennia and tolerated them only as far as justice was observed, finding its rebellious soul awakened when necessary if oppression reared its ugly head. Most of the time the city is a sleepy beautiful place perched above the Basimento river valley its small white houses nestled together in cozy peaceful scene just don’t wake the dragon.

Libecccio, is a so-called wind, known in the Mediterranean, which generally derives from SO and almost always arrives in gusts. Although southern, and humid for having crossed the sea, when it reaches Italy it does not produce that particular oppression that gives the sirocco. The Libeccio, can manifest itself almost suddenly and with considerable violence and the consequences of a "libecciata", can sometimes be very serious. They know it very well, the coastal populations, especially those of the Tyrrhenian coasts, which due to the particular disposition of Italy, are the most exposed to the libeccio.

I would guess there will be people who don't agree with what I'm about to say, but I feel compelled to say it anyway.

Roe vs Wade has been overturned.

My thoughts are these, for whatever it matters.

I believe in the right to life.....an independent life.

I understand those who feel the fetus is a living being, a person in the making.

But then, what person has the right to live inside another person's body without their consent?

Not just to live there, but to use that person's body and all their organs and systems as their own.

Until born, the fetus is literally an extension of the mother's own body. She is making it.

How can that not require her consent?

How can anyone else tell her what she wants is irrelevant?

Tell her, "I" make the decision, not you and I believe you must do this, so you will.

Nobody has the authority to do that.

Once born, the baby is an independent person with all the same rights as everyone else.

Wars are not against enemies, but against Life

Someone asked:

what do you mean with this title?".

My answer:

"When I was 20 it happened on one side that a young man of the same age in Czechoslovakia set himself on fire and died as the only defense against Soviet tanks; on the other hand, thousands of young people of my age were sent to be killed and to kill in Vietnam.

The enemy is always an invention of the aggressor.

War, all wars, are destruction of life, in the interest of few.

At least so it seemed to me when I was young and still today.

The city of Yazd was definitely a Zoroastrian centre during Sassanid times.

After the Arab Islamic conquest of Persia, people periodically faced extreme religious oppression including forced conversions, massacres, harassment, and other forms of discrimination, and then many fled to Yazd from neighbouring provinces. By paying a levy, Yazd remained Zoroastrian even after its conquest, and Islam only gradually became the dominant religion in the city.

You see a couple of sharp turns on this street. They were created in order to prevent enemies from invading. It is named kai (means key) magari (taking turns). The corners may look like a dead end when seen from a distance. When you are near, you'll find that the street continues after bending to a right angle twice. If you go ahead for another 100 feet, there is another sharp corner that bends twice. The whole street is sided with sand-colored earthen walls on both sides. The walls are tall enough to give enemies a sense of oppression as well as to rob them of the sense of direction. If local warriors had lain in ambush at both ends of the street, I guess the enemy would have had no choice but to surrender.

Introduction

Best Gospel Hymns | 2019 Gospel Song With Lyrics "What the Young Must Pursue" | Videos Gospel

I

Prejudiced eyes and deceit are not what the youth should have.

Awful and destructive ways are not how the youth should act.

They should have aspirations, ardently strive to advance,

not lose heart over their prospects,

keep faith in life, the future.

Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.

Pursue all things beautiful,

gain reality of positive things.

Be responsible towards life.

You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.

II

Youth should persist in the path of truth,

thus expend their lives for God.

They should not lack the truth,

nor harbor falseness, unrighteousness.

They should take the proper stance.

They shouldn’t just drift along.

They should dare to sacrifice, fight for justice and the truth.

Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.

Pursue all things beautiful,

gain reality of positive things.

Be responsible towards life.

You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.

III

Young people should not give in to oppression of dark force.

They must have the courage to change the meaning of their lives.

Young people shouldn’t resign themselves to adversity,

they should be open and frank, forgive fellow believers.

Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.

Pursue all things beautiful,

gain reality of positive things.

Be responsible towards life.

You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.

War has rules, it's never cute, it's not a sports match we can watch on tele and root for our favourite team, it's more complex than that, there are variables and people involved, innocents thrust into a game of bombs (and finances) lead by people who will never bat an eyelash at the ringing of shells and the zip of each bag....

As a soldier of this universe I feel compelled to stand for justice. I also know that just following orders is never an excuse for perpetuating the system of violence.

Oftentimes when the Press is muzzled, (don't even get me started on intergalactic communciations systems right now) we are blinded to the 'full story'. Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I've heard a lot of arguments about how movements should be separate because they might have different histories, have different goals, or different means of arising at these goals.

But all of those arguments ignore something extremely crucial that I don't want any one of you to miss: Some people don't have a choice. For some, the very notion of acceptance of their full existence is in jeopardy. How can we ask any human to give up a part of themselves or prioritize? Would we do that? We are the sum of many identities and all should be celebrated.

I also strongly believe that working together will accomplish a lot more. If you support LGBTQ rights, you should also absolutely support Black Lives Matter and vice versa. The oppression of the masses is controlled by a powerful few. It is their agenda to get different races and oppressed groups to fight against each other.

So, if you are saying, for instance: "Well, I support gender equality but I don't support Black Lives Matter" then you're wrong. Those two statements cannot exist in reality without a terrible combustion. We all must fight for this movement and put aside our own personal agendas that are poisoning our spirits.

If you do not stand with the oppressed, you do not stand with humanity.
