I was expecting to experiment this top down angle approach a while ago, but I never really took the change to do it. Few weeks ago I finally got the opportunity. Shooting exclusively in the street is always challenging, especially when we are looking to bring something totally different from what we are use to create (I'm not talking about subject). I was lucky to find a bridge with a kind of geometric ground then I just needed to wait people to come into my frame.

The view from our campsite yesterday morning.
I woke far too early this morning, the light of the full moon overhead still far outshining the light of the coming dawn. But I could tell that dawn was approaching by the sounds of birds singing, the excitement with which they greet each coming day in the Spring when days have... extra meaning and purpose… the ecstasy of finding a mate, the excitement and fulfillment of raising a brood together, the responsibility of using each hour and day well to best ensure their survival. A pair of owls were hooting back and forth, back and forth, celebrating the end of night, perhaps wishing each other a restful sleep, or simply making a peaceful, reassuring call to say “I’m here with you”.
There was little color in the sky to reveal how dramatic the sunrise might be, but there were enough clouds on the horizon to catch the inevitable sunlight that it looked promising. Landscape photography cannot be about simply capturing beauty, since the fleeting nature of the beauty requires that you anticipate it, prepare for it, and are ready to act competently and decisively in those brief moments then the opportunity is there. In that respect landscape photography may serve as a metaphor for life. People can anticipate, prepare for, and make full use of opportunities, in other words play some active role in creating them. Go create yours!
Stag looking across the brook with the mist obscuring the reflection which is a shame. Another from a great days photography at Bushy Park with friends Lillian,Sue,Stu.
Dunnock:- This was supposed to be a Black Redstart, but he didn't show!! Whilst I was waiting in vain, this little fella popped out of the hedge and gave me a pose. I couldn't resist, the opportunity even though I have hundreds of Images of these lovely birds.
Exploring new photo opportunities with a new lens - old-school, built-like-a-tank, heavy, film-age autofocus smc Pentax-FA Macro 100mm F2.8.
Taken with Pentax K20D digital camera and smc Pentax-FA 100mm F2.8 Macro lens.
An unexpected opportunity to get some "boats on the shore" shots down at the front at Morecambe. My Dad's mind might be a bit muddled with Dementia but he still had a vision for these shots for me. The directions were a little difficult to pin down, drive to Morecambe and park near "the little boats on the shore" but we got there at the second attempt
Whilst the opportunity still remains I do not turn down the chance to have these workings even when they are going away...
Everyone knows about the iceberg lake of Iceland. But how many of you knew that there is an iceberg lake also in Switzerland. Yes even in summer you can see icebergs floating on that lake. It is not that secret anymore as it was 10 years back. It had became popular recently. However, due to the difficult ascent it is still not as crowded as many other hiking trails of Switzerland.
After planning for some time, I had an opportunity to explore it myself. And wow, what an experience. I always missed the thrill of Himalayan hikes of my childhood while hiking in Switzerland. Here things are always extremely carefully planned through and maintained. That is a great thing to have, but that reduces that adventure that I used have 30 years back in Himalaya when the infrastructure was poor and trails almost didn't exist.
But this time, I must admit; I had the same feeling and that was exciting.
Here is a little piece I have complied to share my experience of spending one night near the iceberg lake.
The fill version documenting the trail, story and all details is coming soon.
Till then, I hope I will be able to give you a little flavour of how it was.
You can find better 4K resolution of the same video on youtube.
I enjoy a lot with lines and geometries when I go out with a camera in my hand. Sometimes I have the luck to find opportunities like this. By Edgar Barreira
[I take the opportunity of having finished the series on the church of Martinvast to upload three photos that I took recently in various parts of France (very different parts: Brittany, Normandy [on the Brittany border, admittedly] and the French Riviera way down south!) and which I like.]
This splendidly ornate Renaissance town house in the northern Brittany city of Roscoff is called “The House of the Dragon”. So, can you spot the granite dragon? It is there, I assure you!
This is probably the most famous house in Roscoff. It is listed as a Historic Landmark.

Opportunities to get out and make new pictures are, of necessity, limited during the COVID-19 outbreak so, from 1st April 2020, I've been hunting through my archives to find images taken on the same date in previous years. I've tried to choose eight each day. They've mostly not been published here before and potentially cover the period 1980-2021. I hope you enjoy them.
Had the opportunity to work with a lovely model from the left coast... We had a great time and a wonderful shoot.
I could show you the rest fo this series, but this is Flickr page is a family show!

This was too tempting an opportunity to miss for this one.
I have had a first in a lifetime breakthrough with a good friend that I work with.....and who transpires to be THE best sort of friend.. I actually told her about me and showed her the photos of me .....and......for the first time in my life (and I really mean that) she was actually really, really fine with this and thanked me for sharing this secret.
When I say the first time in my life, I mean that I have lost contact with all my family and friends through this. I have never had any positive reaction to it and this is absolutely groundbreaking for me. I know many of you have not had to go through that and I thank God for that, it is an unenviable way to live a life, I can tell you. Still I have become accustomed to it at my age.
So that is why I am starting to break into a smile :-)
Strange what a little relief and being happy can do.....!!

Night shot, long exposure, taken practically at the end of the blue hour from the lake Riffelsee (2.757 m), depicting the Matterhorn transfigured between immense waves of clouds.
Observing this, in the dark, has been as becoming part of an almost Dantesque vision.
In the foreground I've been careful to include the algae of the lake, as almost longing to reach an higher state of being toward the mountain.
I take this opportunity to quote a sentence of Master Yoda, from Star Wars Episode V, which is actually the heart of the entire esalogy: "my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere".

An opportunity to be me always brings with it happiness, relaxation and contentment but it’s never long enough…… tempest fugit…….. life returns to normal…… and there are so many lovely outfits I want to model……. Until next time then…….
There's an abruptness to November that seems unmatched by any other month. To me its like the blast-off into a space flight. The warm and comfortable earth (summer) recedes into inhospitable earth orbit (winter) with unimaginable speed. The transition is punctuated by the ever decreasing sun angle. It's something I endure but never get comfortable with. The sun just looks odd to me hugging the horizon as it does through November and December. It looks alien and feels hostile. It changes light and shadow. It creates a jarring flickering effect when I drive on roads adjacent to trees. The tree trunks alternately block then reveal the sun, causing intense light impulses that are highly distracting. At times it seems so dark that I find myself turning on lights inside the house in the middle of the day just so I can see clearly. Of course these are human reactions. The photographer in me has little concern with any of this. Opportunities abound working with this strange lighting. It seems better to work with the adversity than fight it. On this morning I found myself gazing out at the reflections on the surface of a pond. Ice was beginning to form but most of the water was still clear. I was struck by the inky blackness of the water, characteristic this time of year, but extremely foreboding nonetheless. Overhead rolled an ominous succession of lake effect scud clouds. They seemed to blot out all the color as well as any hint of cheer from the day. A bright spot in the clouds was the only clue as to the presence of the sun. The environment appeared cold and steely. I was struck by the perfect integration of sky and landscape; virtually seamless. Gun metal gray, both in look and feel.
I take so many photos that I don't ever add here. I sometimes look back on them and think oh could have done this better or that better here's an example... False nails I need to do so much more but it's quite tough actually doing anything in them.
:-)x
We are surrounded by endless opportunities offering an unsure outcome but we can only figure out which way to go when we overcome the fear of decision making.
What is amazing about shooting on the beaches is the fact that no matter how frequented they are, you can find unique shapes and structures that challenge your still imagery. When the low tide comes in, part of the beach is untouched and that opens tons of photographic opportunities.
Hope you like it, enjoy.

Often I have the opportunity to photograph the homesteads, garages and barns of relatives. This is one of those garages. If you take a moment to appreciate the story each item could tell, each has quite a story. Just a quick glance you'll see items such as: true gas can (not plastic!), fan shield, many license plates from the early and mid-1900's, mailbox, many axe and broom handles, Coca-Cola and "Pop Kola" bottles, pry bars and much more.
What are current generations doing to preserve these stories? Are they keeping these tangibles? Are they capturing good photographs? Are their stories being lost?

1M14, Avanti West Coast’s 1335 Glasgow - Euston, rounds the foot of Castle Hill, near Crawford on 13 September 2025 in the form of 390121 “OPPORTUNITY”.
Playing catch up - first opportunity for a decent photo of this route since it transferred from Go Ahead.
It picks up outside the bus station - the whole area is being regenerated, from the train station to the bus station. They are also building loads of new flats just about everywhere you look.
The block behind is De Havilland Court which is in that nice Waterside Way part of Tottenham Hale that overlooks the River Lea
