Marlow was purchased in a pet store as an impulse purchase by someone that never owned a dog before. He was so adorable and so tiny. The owner left for work at 7:00am and did not return home from work until 7:30pm. This meant 12 1/2 hours in the crate home alone every day. Since he could not be walked for long periods of time, he was fed very little to avoid pooping in his crate. When his owner came home from work, he was let out of the crate for approximately 30 minutes to eat and for a walk, before being put back into the crate because the owner's boyfriend "hates animals" and he came to visit each night at 8:00pm. Poor Marlow spent the first few months of his life , mostly alone and mostly in his crate, hungry... The owner realized that she really should not own a pet and decided to find Marlow a new home. She gave him to 3 different friends, all of which returned him to her after a few days. Marlow was on his way to the shelter when a friend of mine mentioned that she knew of a dog that was in desperate need of a good home. At the time, my beautiful Maltese Shaney was 13 years old and although in seemingly good health, I began to think that the time was right for another dog. We all went to check Marlow out to see how he would fit into our family. Marlow was a very loving and active dog that just wanted attention. He loves all people as well as all other dogs and we decided to adopt him. My husband an I are dentists and we had always taken Shaney to work with us. He provided pet therapy to all our patients by sitting on their laps while having their dental treatment. We now had two dogs to take to work and Marlow was a very fast learner. He observed what Shaney did at work and in no time, he was also sitting on the patient's laps and going to work each and every day. He loves people so much, that he also "Meets and Greets" all the patients in the waiting room, prior to their appointment and escorts them to the operatories. We had Marlow and Shaney for 11 months together when we very sadly lost our beautiful Shaney to a very aggressive mast cell tumor when he was 14 years old. We realize how extremely lucky we were to have Marlow come into our lives, prior to losing Shaney. He helped us to get through one of the most difficult times in our lives. He is an incredible dog, who rarely spends any time alone any more and is never in a crate. He enhances our lives with an abundance of love and joy, and has helped hundreds of patients to feel more comfortable at the dentist's office. He is truly a gift from God!
