I take my hat off to Andy Poling, the creator of Openfi ( openfi.sourceforge.net/ ). It is truly a godsend to those of us that purchased the Omnifi DMP1 (via woot! in most cases). If you’re familiar with woot!, you may remember the promises of the RF salesmen admitting the software wasn’t very robust, but assuring their would be future updates. Well those updates never came and now the company that made these has basically called it quits. The problems stemmed from their proprietary software called SimpleCenter. It was used to transfer songs to your Omnifi hard-drive. The first issues you noticed right away were that you had to have perfect tags on your mp3s or you have huge lists of bands/songs on your play lists. Next was it would transfer music over, but it was nearly impossible to use it as a backup device and pull songs back off. And thirdly and most important the software had a 10,000 song library limit. After that it would just crash while trying to scan your media. I have more mp3s than that and just couldn’t find a way to workaround this issue. So basically I was stuck with the music I had first sync’d over unless I wanted to totally rearrange my Windows Directories (I wasn’t going to do that). So along come these good folks, creating a killer app that installs on the hard-drive without taking over and gives great new controls. Plus it fixes another major bug of the previous software not allowing you to fast-forward or rewind songs as they’re playing in your car. And lastly it makes the DMP1 act as just like a regular storage device, allowing you to drag and drop files onto it directly. Anyway, this is the flash screen that comes up when you start your car. I can’t say enough good things about it. If you bought one of these, you should seriously consider trying it out. I see they’ve put up a petition ( www.petitiononline.com/omnifi/ ) to get the makers of SimpleCenter to release the source code. You could sign that as well. Thanks for your time, feelsgood.
