One of the gorgeous thermal hot pools in Yellowstone's Midway Geyser Basin.

Though usually active as a hot spring, Opal Pool is also considered a fountain-type geyser, going off infrequently.

The Australian black opal is famous for its fiery colours seemingly embedded in the stone. This sky reminded me of one. Quite a sunset after a day of stormy weather. A time for some locals to get out for a walk.

Opal chips picked up as a souvenir of the mines in South Australia some years ago. These are basically the tailings from mining operations and would otherwise go completely to waste. For macro Mondays theme "Vowel". The image is slightly over one inch across (they are very small chips).
