The SRB "Asmus Bremer" and the SRK "Theodor Heuss" of the DGzRS (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger, lit.: "German Sea Rescue Society") at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

Some details about these SAR vessels below:

Right: The SRK "Theodor Heuss" was the lead ship of the "23,2-Meter" 4-ship-class of SRK (Seenotrettungskreuzer, lit.: "rescue cruiser") and the worldwide first ship of an advanced design for seagoing lifeboats with modern propulsion and featuring a piggybacked smaller boat (Tochterboot).

The "Theodor Heuss" was launched in 1957 and christened after the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany.

"Theodor Heuss" was in service from March 7th, 1957 until decomissioning on May 29th 1985.

Note: The ship on display is not the actual "Theodor Heuss", but her sister ship "H. H. Meier". The actual "Theodor Heuss" was sold upon decommissioning and converted to a cabin cruiser under the name of "Jan".

Left: The SRB "Asmus Bremer" is the type vessel of the 17-boat "8,5-Meter" class of SRB (Seenotrettungsboot, lifeboat). These smaller lifeboats are self-rightening and optimized for use in coastal waters, especially the wadden sea, with a very shallow draft.

A special feature is a "rescue gate" at the starboard side near the waterline, which allows to easily pull shipwrecked persons aboard.

"Asmus Bremer" was christened on December 21st 1987 after an early 18-century mayor of Kiel. She remained on duty until final decomissioning in 2012.

Douglas C-47 'Drag 'em Oot' performing her flying display ar Cosby 2021 Victory Show..

N473DC is a World War II and D-Day veteran, having flown for the USAAF, United States Army Air Force, RAF, Royal Air Force and RCAF, Royal Canadian Air Force during her military life.

Flew for many years for various civilian operators until 2005 when she returned to the UK and she returned to her previous Military livery

Passing at speed along the A68 from Melrose to Lauder it is easy to miss the Leaderfoot Viaduct which is an impressive bridge built over the River Tweed in 1863. Sadly it no longer carries rail traffic having closed in 1965 but the viaduct is now maintained by Historic Scotland and is a testimony to Victorian enterprise and skill.

.........................................................................................................

The River Tweed, or Tweed Water is a river 97 miles (156 km) long that flows east across the Border region in Scotland and northern England. Tweed cloth derives its name from its association with the River Tweed. The Tweed is one of the great salmon rivers of Britain and the only river in England where an Environment Agency rod licence is not required for angling. The river generates a large income for the local borders region, attracting anglers from all around the world.

The River Tweed flows primarily through the scenic Borders region of Scotland. Eastwards from the settlements on opposing banks of Birgham and Carham it forms the historic boundary between Scotland and England.

It rises in the Lowther Hills at Tweed's Well near to where the Clyde, draining northwest (10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the Tweed's Well), and the Annan draining south (1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the Tweed's Well) also rise. "Annan, Tweed and Clyde rise oot the ae hillside" is a saying from the Border region. East of Kelso, it becomes a section of the eastern part of the border. Entering England, its lower reaches are in Northumberland, where it enters the North Sea at Berwick-upon-Tweed. [Wikipedia]

Seven years ago this week as preparations took place for the D-Day 2012 commemorations, I had the opportunity to fly alongside D-Day veteran "Drag-em-Oot" as she made her way to France.

She's seen here in the Lee-on-Solent / HMS Daedalus visual circuit.

For those unfamiliar with the Cumbrian accent this simply means that you might encounter lambs in the field...possibly left over from the Spring as we didn’t meet any... Seen on one of our Lake District walks.

Gros plan sur une des trois petites nyctales capturées par l'équipe de l'OOT ce soir-là. Deux nuits plus tard, ils en capturaient plus d'une vingtaine pour le baguage.

oots, shoots, flowers, and young seeds are edible.

Native to the American Tropics, Canna indica (Achira) was a main root crop grown by South American Natives, reported by Spanish explorers.

The leaves, rhizomes, shoots, flowers, and seeds are edible and cultivated for food, tamale wrappers, biodegradable plants, starch, and alcohol throughout the tropics.

Starch Properties

Achira starch contains 31% amylose.

Granules are spheric, oval, or elliptical, ranging in size from 26 to 67 µm, affecting their swelling power and water absorption capacity.

Cultivation and History

Canna indica has been cultivated for over 4000 years as a food crop in Central and South America.

The plant can grow up to 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide, making it a member of the Cannaceae family.

A shot from last year. Cant wait till the autumn, when the sun is setting across the Solway, once again.

"Drag ‘em Oot" displaying at The Victory Show 2019, Cosby. The aircraft is a geniune D-Day veteran, she dropped 18 paratroopers in Normandy. She also took part in operation Market Garden in September 1944.

Looking over Coire Ghardail in Morvern towards Fuar Bheinn. An old fence post taking in the views. I could have sat here for ages but I had to make good pace from here to get back to the car before darkness. A grand day oot.

I'm not saying it rains that much in Bonnie Scotland but if your oot fir a wee drive its advisable to take a few boats with you. You never know when your gonna need them.

Ps.. the missus took this yin while I wiz drivin.

One of the highlights of The Victory Show 2019, held at Cosby, was the static line parachute drop from C-47A "Drag ‘em Oot". The aircraft is a genuine D-Day veteran and also took part in operation Market Garden in September 1944.

Oot in That - "Ya dinnae want tae be oot in that", said the old farmer. He was right. One minute later and I was caught in a horrendous storm of sleet, hail and 100mph winds. Taken at Dounreay in the far north of Scotland. I don't often go for a black and white image but it seemed appropriate for this shot.

And as for these words, well, let me jist say it hus been a fucking pleasure to know that some of yoose folks huv been reading some if not aw of this. Those who give up their time would receive a warm hug if a was ever to say hello to you. It means a fucking lot.

Ye see, a have long been told to write, we’re talking since primary school onwards. From friends, to family to Hazel, aw buggers pestering me and hassling me to write something down. It’s easy to say, not so easy to do.

You ever tried tae write? Not just fucking slapping anything down, but write something that means something to you, that does nae make you fucking greet with embarrassment in a week and something you think is the equal of your favourite authors (and efter all, if it’s no, whit’s the fucking point?).

For me it’s like standing at the top of a cliff knowing that if I wanna make it tae where I wanna go that I jist have to make the jump. Now, there’s no telling if am gonnae make the landing, and there’s no telling if any fucker is gonna pay any attention if a do. So a stand there and think aboot it, trouser legs flapping in the breeze, hands twitching away against each other and aw a hear are the words or Murakami or Irving, Heller or Dickens.

Their words get carried up to me on some bastard of a breeze. These aren’t kind words, these words are fucking asking me out for a fight, a fight that a think a have to win to be sure that a land at the bottom of this fucking awfy big cliff. A fight that a have to win if a wanna make that landing, if a don’t wanna be jist another splattered clown with a broken dream and 9 to 5 job.

So time efter time a have walked away. Folded my arms, put down ma pen and walked away. But not this time. And a tell you, it has been a fucking pleasure. A don’t really swear like this, and a won’t always write this way, but right now, a have words bursting oot inside ma chest every minute of the day and it feels gallus. Right now, a could write a fucking book and someone out there might actually just read it. Right now a feel like a could step over that cliff and just about make it, mibbe no all the way, mibbe a wouldn’t be noticed by any fucker, but a would make it to the bottom at the very least. After that, who the fuck knows.

So, there’s a bit more clown tae come, nae luck for you, but hopefully a whole lot more besides. This has aw been hard, this has aw taken time, but am hoping tae fuck it’s worth it and am hoping tae fuck that every bugger who has read a word or left a comment knows that if a jump, and if a make, they’ve played a big part in helping me down.

Of course, if I fail…
