With the onset of Spring over the past couple of weeks I've counted five barn owls at three separate locations in and around the Lavenham fields. It's a very encouraging sign as we now head into the breeding season.
There are not that many different species of Grosbeaks in North America. In New Mexico this bird favors the high mountains that have aspens and mixed conifers. These flocks are scattered across middle North America, and are recovering from a serious population decline thought to be caused by chemical budworm treatments carried out in Canadian forests. Up here (8600 ft msl) they are seasonally regular... but not predictable. You have to get high in the NM mountains to improve your chances of spotting one here! At the onset of winter, nearly all will drop lower and eventually move further south.

21 September, the beginning of autumn, and that takes me back to two years ago when I went to visit the Dolomites to photograph the onset of autumn, and grasp the colors during its evolution. I arrived the 27th of September, but at that time summer was still around and temperatures were gorgeous.
The first signs of autumn were during a hike on the first of October when I was walking with friends in the area of Santa Christina di Valgardena where we did the hike to the Rifugio Vicenza on a splendid day from which I already posted this shot flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/52608458244/in/dateposted/, but I still have a lot more.
I think the red plants are little birch bushes but I am not sure. They started to get red, and in the days following the colors in the mountains turned from green to yellow and later orange.

Just hours prior to the February 1 blizzard warning kicking in, the streets of Wheaton, Illinois were void of any people and cars, except me. It's near impossible to get a shot of this street with no cars or people. I took advantage of the situation :-)
One of the first shots I managed to get during a quick break in the clouds during the early stages of the eclipse. You can see a couple of sunspots in the center and on the left side of the sun. This was taken with a cardboard eclipse viewer taped to the end of my lens.
Today was a day of insomnia!
The clouds began to fill the sky coming from the north and at 6:00 am there I was to test the "marriage" between the 165mm ND filters from Formatt Hitech and wide-angle withe other dimensions ... the Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S ! ^_^

The onset of Winter is a wonderful time to me, and sometimes the magic swirls around like falling leaves and snowflakes. Kerryth at Spyralle introduced a new pattern for her Silvia dress, and offered a beautiful leafy headpiece that matches perfectly. This looked beautiful enough in my “usual” Quinn Perle skin from Oceane Body Design , but when I tried the Opal Ice skin from Fallen Gods, something really shiny began to take place.
This outfit was just a joy to put together, and there’s just so much here to share with you. I found the beautiful dress and headpiece from Spyralle on a recent trip, then kept finding the perfect things to put together with the outfit. The Nature’s Splendour jewelry from EarthStones was just perfect to carry the maple leaf theme, and the HUD let me select some blue and opalescent textures that carry the theme of the dress, the headdress, and the skin. On top of that, while wandering around Enchantment, I came across the perfect face paint / facial tattoo from Nefekalum Tattoos — the beautiful blue maple leafs! It is almost as if this was destined.
Add in the Silvan Boots from [QE]Designs, and the Arboreal wings from Vaengi, and presto… the perfect little fae for the season.
If you’re like me, there’s a lot of chaos to take place before the December holidays.. and those December holidays themselves take on many different forms. But I think that nearly all of them carry the same message — a time of peace, a time of joy, a time of family and friends. I hope that even in the chaos that you may all carry that joy with you throughout the next month.
Have a wonderfully happy week, my friends! A hui hou kākou!
