We drove out to Cape Disappointment to get some lighthouse pictures, and I stumbled onto the location I was looking for that last couple times I was there. There were no big waves, as the King Tide was on it's last pawn, and the waves weren't very big. Still, I took a few pictures, and made plans to go back again when the circumstances are right.
I am testing a new developer, which is Photographers Formulary FA-1027. It is supposed to be superior to D76, and yeild exquisite negarives. So far, I like what I see. The only post processing I had to do to this negative was set the levels.

One of my favorite places: Horsethief Butte, Washington in the Eastern Columbia Gorge.
I have been going back and forth on whether to use a watermark on my photographs. I have changed it a couple of times, and removed it completely a couple of times. I seem to always come back to the one I used on this one. If someone is going to steal my picture, I want them to at least have to do some work to remove the watermark before displaying it.

On the way out to the Dalles Mountain Ranch in way down southern Washington State, just up north of Oregon, over in the Eastern Columbia Gorge, which is centrally located in the Pacitic Northwest, there’s this cattle chut that looks like it’s still in use. What a difference a Split Neutral Density filter can make. The sky looks a bit angry with that beg, black patch of storm clouds above. I wasn’t quite expecting this look, but, hey, I’ll take it.
There was a little problem with the development on this one. Some of the blacks turned a tad red, but them's the breaks.
I also think I have posted enough images from Cape Horn lately, so I will wait a while to post more.

I have been taking pictures around this area for 15 years. It’s one of those places where the whole is gerater than the sum of its parts. It is impossible to capture it in a single picture. It’s a long, ragged cliff face built by volcanoes, scoured by the Missoula Floods, and eroded by time and weather.

I was testing out a new panoramic (6 cm x 12 cm) Horseman film back. It seems to be working, although the dark slide is a bit loose. It is light tight, though. I sold my Noblex 06/150 (AKA the "Twirly Camera") to pay for it. I was tired of the Noblex bending the landscape if it pointed even a little up or down. It's the nature of a camera whose lens spins on a turret. I enjoyed it at firsr, but the thrill was gone a few years in. I also like being able to use multiple lenses. The Noblex had a single, dedicated lens.

I was out at the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Washington back in June, and I used up some 4x5 infrared sheet film. It was the first time I did that for a few years. I didn't have much luck with it previously, but this time it worked like a charm.

I have not done much astral photography over the years. I happened to be out in the eastern Columbia Gorge after dark, and wanted to try my hand at it. The results are not optimal, but it's a first attempt. I need a wider, faster lens, and may have to bump the ISO up even further. Someone turned on their marker lights during this exposure, and I like the color on the replica.

I took one camera and one lens on a hike up the Coyote Wall today. It was overcast, so most of the pictures were “meh.” I like this one, though. There was a breeze, and some of the leaves are blurry. I should have set the ISO higher. Oh well,

I finally made it to Lower Lewis River Falls in Washington State.. The water was a tad low, so the falls weren't very exciting, but a young woman sat down in the pool, giving me a different composition to attempt, as long as she stayed still enough for a long exposure.

This is the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Woodland, Washington. I’ve photographed it quite a bit for about the last 8 years, trying, of course, to get it right.
This time, I used Ilford Ortho+ film. It’s a film that I have come to adore, especially when developed in Pyro. I used 510-Pyro this time, and it worked out pretty well. I could have subtracted a half a minute from the developing time, but I am happy with the negatives I got.

The sternwheeler "American Empress" was docked at Stevenson, Washington in August when we passed through on our way to Maryhill. It was hot, so the infrared camera was the most awesome choice.

I have never done the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in infrared before. We were there today to test out Rollei IR 400 film on a difficult subject, but I did some digitals along the way. For this one, I used my infrared converted D300 and captured one. Next comes developing the film sometime soon.

I stayed in Ilwaco, Washington in late November in order to be at Cape Disappointment for the King Tide. On my evening walk, I took some pictures of some boats in the marina. I have not had much success doing night photogrphy with a digital camera, however, these turned out pretty good.

We happened upon this rather stunning sternwheeler docked at Stevenson, Washington last Fall. I have seen it there a few times, as well as at The Dalles and Hood River. It's always worth taking pictures of it, especially when there's good light.

The Eastern Columbia Gorge is where I go when I am sick of the unbroken cloud cover of the Portland area. Fluffy clouds are the best. Ominous clouds are even better. These are a mixture of the two. Throw in a train, and we're cookin'.

I went to Washington with Glen Bledsoe and Christopher Taylor on Saturday to get some prime fall foliage picutres. I used up 3 sheets of 8x10 slide film, and then got out the digital. This is, of course, one of the digital pictures.
This is just behind the Cedar Creek Grist Mill. The trough in the forground is for getting water to the mill.
