The Royal Canadian Air Force's 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, the Snowbirds, putting on a show above Alcatraz.
Although they were always on the list of participants, the Snowbirds saved San Francisco's marquee event by stepping up to headline the 2025 SF Fleet Air Show held from October 10th to the 12th after the traditional headliners, the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, and all other U.S. military participants were forced to dropout out of the air show due to the federal shutdown. To most San Franciscans' surprise, the loss of the Blue Angels wasn't that big of deal since the Snowbirds put on an absolute show over the city.

The Flower Piano Fashion Show featured the works of the City College of San Francisco's (CCSF) Fashion Department students and faculty on the ninth day of Flower Piano on September 20th, 2025.
Flower Piano, in its 10th year, is one of San Francisco's highly anticipated annual music events next to the likes of Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Portola Festival, or the Stern Grove Festival. Unlike those highly produced music festivals, this one is on the low-key side where 12 pianos are placed in the 55-acre San Francisco Botanical Garden for ANYONE to play. Amateurs to professionals, kids to adults, beginners to advanced musicians, classical musicians to rock/pop musicians, pretty much anyone, come to line-up and play these pianos and thousands come out to listen in the variety of music being played in the gardens. Aside from the freeplay, scheduled programming from amazing musicians pepper the 10-days of the event.

KOHO's BonPOP 2025, the last Bay Area obon festival of the season, took place at the San Francisco Botanical Garden on August 31, 2025. The festival has its roots in the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival where families celebrate and honor their ancestors. One of the wonderful traditions is the bon odori dance set to a variety of traditional Japanese folk music.

San Francisco is known for it's cool, temperate, and even foggy climate most of the year. And that also depends which of the micro-climates you are in within the city. But the city actually experiences its warmer, sunnier weather in September through October. So if you plan to visit and don't want to be miserable, visit in the late summer/early fall.

Happy 175th Birthday to the City of San Francisco!
And only Illuminate the Arts and Nu-Salt Laser can bring candles big enough to handle the "City of Awe" (hint: nine massive mobile space lasers mounted on the "AweMobile") which were aimed at San Francisco City Hall's dome in celebration of 175 years since its incorporation on April 15th, 1850.

A street portrait from Tulip Day, or Flower Bulb Day, in San Francisco's Union Square last Saturday afternoon. The massively popular annual event attracts THOUSANDS of people, many who line up at sunrise, for the opportunity to pick their own tulips among a field of over 80,000 to take home.

San Francisco's Día de los Muertos procession through the Mission held on November 2nd, 2025. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an entire weekend of welcoming the spirits of departed loved ones back to this world through festivities celebrating their lives. Walking through the Mission, one can encounter the many ofrendas, calaveras, marigolds, food, music, dancing, and the joy of thousands of people celebrating as one community.

Shout out to every stranger who stopped by to say "hi" and to chat about full moons and photography! It was kind of impossible to not notice what I was photographing because that was such a narrow sidewalk for a big camera lens! But, it was a fun night overall!

One of my favorite art experiences. This 100-foot cone of ethereally shifting light is a sight and sound bath experience mashed up into one, but it's hard to explain what it's like to be under the light during the actual performance and everyone will probably come away with something different. Pictures will never do this art installation any justice, but I hope it inspires you to experience it for yourself. Tickets are free through Grace Cathedral and are released one month in advance of the actual viewing but they go quickly!
This is one of my favorite photos taken after Friday night's final viewing. This gentleman wanted one last peek and walked straight to stage center. I clicked the shutter, waited for the long exposure to finish, and looked down at my camera's screen expecting a ghostly trail but saw him standing still in the photo. I looked up and, *poof*, he was gone...

Photo from Grace Cathedral and ILLUMINATE the Arts' Grace Window art installation where 25 lasers mounted on the roof of the Fairmont Hotel lit up Grace Cathedral's Rose Window from sunset on July 11th all the way to sunrise on July 15th.
The 25 lasers are overexposed in this image as they shoot overhead, but they gave the overall atmosphere an other worldly vibe you just can't get anywhere else.
