I had some chicken scraps to dispose of, so went down to the beach with the scraps and my Canon 1D MkIII with an old (1974) Takumar screw-mount M42 17mm fisheye lens on (via an M42 to EOS adapter). Note the fish-eye effect (even on an APS-H sensor camera) at the two bottom corners.

The nearest gull is about 1-1.5m (3' - 5') from the camera!

There are eight Red-billed Gulls and two larger Black-backed Gulls (yellow bills and more black on the wing tips) in the image.
