Chevrolet in the early 50's decided to change the fate of American cars forever with a swing into the likes of European style sports cars. Their very first being the Corvette, an entirely hand made, fiberglass sportscar that was designed for the more "Posh" customers. The car was Beautiful, with styling that still reminds people of what 50's design was all about. However they ran into a huge problem with the Corvette, it completely bombed. The car had excessive panel gaps, it was too slow to be a Sports car, it was impractical, and it was very expensive being roughly $3,000, for a weekend toy. Chevrolet had to think quick, and instead of using the prior straight 6, they resulted to putting in a V8 instead in the 55' model, and it became the Vette we all know today.
