Born Yesterday Pale Ale

brewed by Lagunitas Brewing

(either Petaluma, California, or Chicago, Illinois)

Bottle purchased in ...

Falls Church, Virginia.

▶ "Imagine yourself in a field of dreams, brewer's dreams; that is to say; A field of hops, Mosaic, Amarillo, Equinox & other special varieties curated by the great men and women who ply the lands and trellis' of the Yakima Valley in Washington State, now inhale, now sip, now swallow."

[Punctuation, grammar, and spelling as it appears on bottle label.]

▶ "Lagunitas’s Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Pale Ale is setting speed records: The hops were brewed [with] the day after they were picked, and the beer will leave Lagunitas’s Chicago and Petaluma, Calif., breweries on Monday, Oct. 26 [2015] — the same day it leaves the tanks to be bottled. [...] To brew with the unkilned, or 'wet hops', the day after they were harvested, Lagunitas took an 'all hands on deck,' approach. All employees came to help prep the hops. [...] 'We’ve put together a special process in the brewing that’s extremely unique and is going to facilitate us being able to brew Born Yesterday.' "

▶ Me:

---> Lagunitas designates its Born Yesterday as a Pale Ale, at 6.5% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) and 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs). But its IPA (India Pale Ale) is listed lesser in both metrics, at 6.2% abv and 48 IBUs. Go figure!

---> "Extremely unique," like more perfect, or very dead. And a secret "special process in the brewing." Redundant hype, but tasty beer. I tasted pine freshener, Zest soap, grapefruit, and white pepper. Not that I've ever actually ingested the first two items. But that was the aroma. In a good way.

I purchased this ticket on StubHub for $6.00 but sat in Sec. 19, Row 2, Seat 8, a friend's season ticket, six rows behind the plate. Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta lost a no-hitter with one out in the 8th inning after trying to sneak a fastball past Brandon Phillips on an 0-2 count. His double was the only hit for the Reds in the Cubs 7-0 victory, making this my third one-hitter. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera this evening.

My portable piece has arrived. It's the Opinicus 9 Rising9 5-Hole Pocket Straight. This is a very beautiful piece of glass. It's clean and stylized with a pretty dope design. It's a bit bigger that I thought it would be. However, it's still small enough to be comfortably pocket-able. It is also surprisingly light considering the fact that it's composed of very thick and durable glass. I picked this up from Aqua Lab Technologies for around $40 with their 4/20 discount. I recommend this piece as a definite essential for smokers on the go.

When Jim Lonborg pitch his one-hitter against the Cardinals In the second game of the 1967 World Series, I was here. I had a standing-room ticket ($4.00) and stood in back where those two people on the left are sitting. Yaz homered twice and the Sox won, 5-0.

At the Fenway Park open house the day before its 100th anniversary was celebrated.
