In the chill of showers of snow and hail here this morning this pretty Tulip anyway had pushed its way into light. Its kin no doubt is used to this kind of weather for it hails from the mountains of northern Afghanistan. In 1974, Christopher Grey-Wilson (1944-) published his self-effacing but exciting 'Some Notes on the Flora of Iran and Afghanistan'. He describes the eight-month long botanical expedition led by Thomas Frederick Hewer (1903-1994) - whose main job was pathology and oncology - and himself in 1971. Crossing the Hindu Kush - towering 3800 m. in northern Afghanistan - along the pass cut by the Salang River at 2400 m. they found this pretty, ground-hugging Tulipa, which they recognised as a 'kolpakowskiana'. Though I hate the cold, I'd have loved to be with them! Anyway, this Tulip caught the attention of Leonard Wouter Dirk van Raamsdonk (1955-). His close examination - 'A New Species Tulipa heweri related to T. praestans' (1998) - led him to distinguish it from Kolpakowskiana and to define it as a new species which he named for versatile Hewer.

Photo probably obtained in 1945 (?) during the first course of nurses.

I recovered this photo to remind my mother and two aunts who were part of this course and are present in de picture.

New Princess Maxima Center for Children Against Cancer. The new hospital and research center is build in Utrecht and opens in the spring of 2018. Care for all childhood cancer patients in The Netherlands will be concentrated within this building.

Former Montgomery Ward located at 1162 Oliver Rd. in Monroe,LA. The 125,000 building is currently sub-divided between multiple businesses. The largest portion of the sub-divided building is occupied by a medical center operating under the name Oncology Associates. Interestingly while much of the building has been drastically renovated, a portion of the original wavy canopy has remained over the entrance of the medical office.

Note this Montgomery Ward store opened for business on October 14th 1966 and remained in operation until the company liquidated in 2001.

Former home of Joseph Toynbee, Aural Surgeon, 1815- 1866 and his son, Arnold Toynbee, Social Philosopher, 1852-1883. As the Blue Plaque on the house says, they lived here from 1854 to 1866. The building is now Parkside Oncology Clinic.

In the last two weeks, several lumps have formed on my neck and chest. I am visiting my oncologist this afternoon to find out the results to the last week's blood tests. I am worried, but keeping the faith in my Lord front and center. Please understand if I am not commenting as much as usual, I am in a bit of pain.

Update:

The blood tests were positive. The CA125 tumor marker has tripled in the last 6 months. I will be scheduled for a PET Scan early next week to see how much the cancer has metastasized. (after just celebrating my four years of survivorship)

Thank you for all the love, prayers, and posts. Kim Marie

LET US PRAY FOR ALL THOSE WHO SUFFER. SILENTLY OR OTHERWISE.

Pious People drops a coin or two to appease the Creature as you see here.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE..

There are many medical treatments for illnesses, from breast cancer chemo to antibiotics. However, even if the body heals, there is a need for spiritual healing also. If any of you has gone through any life changing illness, cancer, diabetes, MS, you name it, you know that you may feel better physically, but you also have a need to heal your soul.

Devastating illnesses and injuries make us "Fear the Lord". But also we find few of us will refuse to ask God for help when we really need it.

LOVE is the pure fruit of the Spirit of God, along with FAITH. When your faith is strong and you know that He loves you beyond anyone else on Earth or in heaven ever could, then you will reap the fruit of peace of mind, soul and spirit as well as the body. If you know someone who is praying for you, you are blessed. If you are praying for someone about anything you are doubly blessed! You are partaking of the BEST FRUITS of the Spirit!

God bless your Sunday and your week.

** ALSO: Thank you for prayers for Zoe and the family and me. We all went through a pretty rough week. But I KNOW as sure as my feet are below my knees, that your prayers made us all a little better and faster. The prayers also fed GOOD FRUIT to our souls! You are the best!

All The Best

Seen at Tucson Medical Center’s Oncology building. I am attending a Yoga class there.

Today I was early, so I went exploring...

I find the experience of being in this facility very moving. It’s quite poignant…

May HaShem bless and heal all these patients speedily and completely, and may he bless all the care givers.

this piece is for week 13, and is about oncology, more specifically about cancer, and even more specifically, about brain cancer. I wanted to do this piece on brain cancer since it's something I find very fascinating how a tumor (or neoplasm) can alter anyone's personality completely. Someone who is absolutely terrified of all things can become "bullet proof" if they develop a tumor in the "right spot" (if you could call it that).

We can't do without them.

And introducing Ashley, Devons GF. She's an alright gal. We all like her.

Dev's Cancer markers are still hovering @ 2 almost non-existent. IDK if we will ever hear that there is a 0. Anyway this is really good news and we made appointments to go have blood tests again in about 8 weeks.

He did ask of he could have his port-a-cath removed from his chest and no was the answer so that was kind of a bummer but all in all a good visit. We have to have his head examined ;) soon to make sure all is well up there.
