In other words, plants and animals have a symbiotic relationship. You can't have one without the other. This is a vision that was embraced by one of my favourite American poets. When William Stanley Merwin died in Hawaii on March 15, 2019 he left behind more than just a legacy of powerful poetry and a commitment to the anti-war movement. He left behind a growing forest.

So when Merwin retired from teaching he moved to Hawaii, bought a deforested reserve and began to plant several trees every single day for the rest of his life. He now has a forest. Bangkok has a vibrant and diverse street life, which is one of the reasons many people visit the city. The city is known for its street food, markets, shopping and nightlife. There are many street food markets and stalls in the city where you can find delicious and cheap meals. You can find everything from authentic Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Tom Yum to international cuisines. The city is also known for its markets, including the Chatuchak Weekend Market, Asia's largest covered market. Here you can find everything from clothes and accessories to antiques and art. There are also luxury shopping malls. You can find everything from high-end brands to unique, local products. Cheaper are the many small shops on the street. All in all, local commerce and small shops in Bangkok offer the chance to buy unique and local products and support the local economy. It's also a great way to interact with the locals and learn more about the city and its culture.
Bangkok has a busy traffic system and many transportation options are available, including tuk-tuks, taxis and mopeds. Tuk-tuks are small three-wheeled vehicles commonly used in Bangkok. They are useful for short distances and can move easily through heavy traffic. However, tuk-tuks are often more expensive than other modes of transport and prices should always be negotiated in advance. Taxis are another popular mode of transportation in Bangkok. They are easy to find and quite affordable. It is recommended that you only travel with metered taxis and negotiate the price beforehand, as some taxi drivers can inflate the prices. Mopeds are a popular way to get around Bangkok, mainly because they can move through traffic with ease. However, it is important to be careful as traffic in Bangkok can be busy and chaotic, and there are few rules for riding mopeds.

Truth be told, I'm only a second generation American. My paternal grandfather was from the old country somewhere near Munich (his wife from Austria). So being only a second generation American, I'm still getting used to the customs and lifestyle in this new land.
I was hoping to randomly find people with my last name Müller, and did in quite a few places. Appears there are hotels, bakeries and just about everything else with my real last name around Germany. But no one there knew of me. My grandfather was one of 11 children, so I know I have cousins out there somewhere. Next time I'll do a little more research before I head out there.
I do miss Germany. The food, people, beer, autobahn, and all the cars that I wasn't fortunate enough to rent. But I also like it home. I missed my family and all the good/hard times that go along with it. I miss my own car, food in the fridge and being able to watch Alton Brown on OnDemand whenever I want.
Travel is fun, but home is better.

I've am away on a spiritual retreat. Bali, where spiritual energy combines the life forces of humanity and the planet as a whole. I need inspiration. You think just because you are crawling about, half naked, with your undone brazier, practically falling off, almost revealing your breasts, you think that would be inspiring to me? You think just because I am a man, that is all I would need for inspiration? Just because you have all the moves and because everyone of those moves is saying "come here and take me, because I desire you", you’d think I would be moved. Moved to create. No way! I would rather just be sitting here looking at you. Watching you squirm and wriggle. Giving me those looks with your eyes and your whole body. And anyway, I don't believe you. You make a passionate plea. Almost convincing and yet you do not persuade. We have history, you and I. History that will not be forgotten any time soon. "Live in the moment!" you say. And I want to. I want to so desperately, but I fear the disappointment. I fear being let down as I have been let down so many times before. So keep your sensual wriggles. Your sexual displays that you do, oh, so well. I need to ignore them. To observe but not participate. I need to be a camera not a photographer. All be it a passionate camera, but a camera just the same.
And now I have your soul.

I had waited a long time to do this shoot with Monika. It certainly was worth the wait. She seems to be out of town allot. It was hard to tie her down, but I finally did it. It was just before she took off for the summer to go to Europe. I would have liked to shoot her in Europe. That would have meant a nice trip with some great locations. But I should complain less. I did get to shoot her and that is more than enough to have asked for. The session went well. I got allot of shots and also some great video. View the large version.

“Impressions After The Session” documents a conversation between photographer Sol Lang and his wife Mary Bogdan that took place after a photoshoot with model Arianna Espen Grimoldi in Rapallo, Italy. The conversation is interspersed with behind the scenes footage of the actual session and the film includes many of the resulting photographs.
“This film – an oeuvre of love – culminates my various passions, including photography, videography and beauty, especially feminine beauty. It is one of my most labor intensive works. It combines almost the entirety of a photoshoot, that took place in 2012, at which time I had intended to one day produce a short documentary film. The work consisted of film editing, post production of the photographs and the final assembly of stills and video. My wife and collaborator shot most of the video during the session, while I was photographing Arianna (the model).
In the course of creating this film, I learned many things about my art. But mostly about the process of communication through photography and videography.
I hope that it will be an inspiration to those who’s interests are photography, especially those interested in the collaboration of artist and model.”

I was faced with many challenges in achieving this shooting session with Arianna. The first challenge was to find a model that would meet my critical aesthetic requirements, which Arianna easily met and indeed surpassed. Yes, I have been told many times that I am tough on aesthetics. I don’t really think that I am. I have my preferences and as it happens, my preferences do tend to please most viewers of my glamor photographic work. But at the same time my range of preferences is rather wide. Anyone looking at my work would see that. But getting back to my challenges of shooting Ariana… We (my wife Mary and I) had just driven in to Rapallo, Italy from Chamonix, France, arriving one hour before the agreed upon time to start the session. We had to check into our hotel, unpack and set-up our equipment, do some test shots and be ready for Ariana’s arrival. It all had to be fast, flawless like clock-work. This was not what I am used to. My work is rarely on-location. I do most of my work in a more leisurely fashion, in my home studio, where I have all my lighting equipment and, apparently, unlimited shooting locations around the house. In Rapallo, at the hotel, I was limited to our room and the requested balcony facing the Mediterranean with Portofino to one side and the Rapallo Marina on the other. A pretty nice setting. The only lighting equipment I brought was a single strobe head mounted on a stand with a reflector umbrella. After setting-up, I tested the strobe and it worked just fine, but then I heard a “pop” sound that came from the head and, just as I thought, it was no longer functioning. Arianna, who came from Milan, arrived twenty minutes early. Very unusual for a model. Most of my models call an hour late asking for directions. This was a refreshing change. I could see that great things were going to come of it. And so the session began.

My Bali Princess from my Bali session.
It was not easy to get a model in Bali. The original model that I was in contact with while I was still in Montreal, was very slow in responding to my emails and I felt very uncertain that she will follow through. I absolutely wanted to do at least one session with one model during my Bali visit. Out of the 23 days in Bali, it would seem unlikely not to be able to book a model for even a single session. Well it turns out that the casting sites that I use for booking models are blocked in Indonesia due to their nudity content. Indonesia is a very religious country with strict morality laws on nudity. Luckily while still in Montreal, I cast a wider net than I really needed by contacting as many as 5 models. As it turned out one of them named Hanie was able to respond, and with the help of my friend Paul Saulnier, a Montreal expat photographer, we were able to set us the session. I hope that in the next little while you will be seeing a whole lot of Hanie.
Tomorrow I will be doing the 24hr flight back to Montreal, so this will be my last posting for a bit.
For my video patrons, the session with Hanie was filmed and I will eventually use some of the footage in my upcoming videos.

I celebrate this new year of my life with the appearance of a new face in my stream. My artistic tribute to femininity.
I feel very privileged to have had this visit from her on this bright sunny day. I took advantage of the streaming natural rays and avoided using any artificial supplementary lighting. Not my usual style of working. The experience was challenging, elating and of course delightful. My model made it more so. A natural beauty, she is confident in her poses and an admirable artist and collaborator.
This image is worth viewing large, of course.
At this point I would also like to extend an invitation to all my contacts. As I have exceeded 6,000, I can no longer do it through Flickr's "invite" feature. They say it is too weak to handle such numbers.

At first I didn't think it would be too cool or modest of me to invite people to my own fan club. How self-indulgent this would appear. So I held off for as long as I could. But then Mary Bogdan, the creator of the group, artist extraordinaire and loving wife, said to me that I owe it to all my friends on Flickr and that who better to have access to my fans than myself? I thought and thought about it. I realized that as the group grows with friends that are on her and others' lists, the friends who I have selected or who have selected me and who may want to be in the group the most, cannot be ignored and left off the invited list. So here it is. An official invitation to join my fan club by me. Welcome one and all! Unfortunately since I can’t do it through Flickr’s invite feature, you will have to request to join :( Yet another small inconvenience of failed technology.

As the Florida heat was warming us both up I could sense that Taylor, my model was stirring with agitation. Not that she was uncomfortable, quite on the contrary, she was so comfortable and mellow that her clothes felt like they needed to come off. It is not that often that a model gets to feel this way. At least not that I am made aware of it. I guess the Florida heat can do that and maybe it's also the smells of the subtropical vegetation. Come to think of it, I too started to feel that agitation. But I would not dare to remove a single vestige. I would totally scare off my model and the rest of the session would be a bust. I would do well to just let Taylor undress. We will all be better off for it.

Swearingen Metroliner SA-226AT N479VK front end..flew this beauty single-pilot/no autopilot (mandatory Ray Bans-and flying glove!-on the dash);
the rest of the plane (inside and out) looked, flew, and behaved just the way this cockpit looks, like crap!! aahhh, those were the days...guess the olden A300 ain't so bad after all :)
Knowing I wold be in Italy for three days, I thought… I can't visit this wonderful country without sampling one of its lovelies. By “sampling”, of course I mean doing a photo shoot to produce an artistic, sensual souvenir that would hopefully delight viewers for many years to come. So I arranged to do a shoot with Arianna Espen Grimoldi. My lovely model is not new to glamor photography. She had been featured in Italian Playboy in September of 2011 and will be again on the cover of the December 2012 issue. I feel honored and privileged to have had this opportunity of shooting with Arianna.
I will be adding images from these sessions as I process them. Come back often to see how this set will evolve and grow.

Some models just don’t want to listen. No matter what I say, they want to do their own thing. Just being naughty.
I can’t decide if this is a “behind the scenes” shot, or a planned in-take (as opposed to out-take) shot. Either way, I like it. Christelle can’t take a bad photo. Even when she is just sitting still, paying attention to my instructions, her demeanor is as if she is posing. Femininity at its most photogenic.
With a model like Christelle, I am but a conduit of this aesthetic called “glamor photography”. I am the medium of this mysterious, paranormal art of seduction. The art just flows through me, from the time that I squeeze the shutter, to the final completed work that I send to my printer.
What you see before you is the result of an entity that has possessed my physical and conscious state, as it transformed 1s and 0s into art.
