One of the many Bay in Oman

The past few days some students from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman have been leaving comments on my photostream. I found out from one of them that they are in a photography class and that their teacher asked them to join flickr and to communicate with each other and leave comments on their photos. They are also hoping other flickrites will leave comments on the photos to help them improve their photography. Anyway, their images brought back good memories for me of the three years I lived in Oman from 1992 thru 1995, so I decided to scan a few of my favorite Velvia slides from my Oman archives and post them.

You have to give credit to Oman Air, the airline is expanding at a slow but impressive rate... In 2016, the carrier introduced their second daily flight into London Heathrow and by 2017, launched their second UK destination to Manchester which continues to operate daily.

WY105/106 was introduced on 1st May 2017, the daily flight saw a mixture of Airbus A330-200/300s operating on the evening flight configured with just Business and Economy interiors.

With it being a year since Oman Air introduced flights into Manchester, the airline announced in February 2018 that WY105/106 saw the mixture of Airbus A330-200/300s replaced by Boeing 787-8/9s since 1st July 2018. Whilst Boeing 787-8s forms the majority of flights into Manchester, their Boeing 787-9 fleet tends to operate twice a week.

Currently, Oman Air operates 8 Boeing 787s, which includes 4 Boeing 787-8s and 4 Boeing 787-9s. Oman Air have 4 Boeing 787-8s and 2 Boeing 787-9s on-order.

Sierra Zulu is one of 4 Boeing 787-8s in service with Oman Air, delivered new to Kenya Airways as 5Y-KZJ on lease from BOC on 29th October 2015 until being withdrawn on 1st April 2016, before being wet-leased to Oman Air on 26th May 2016 from Kenya Airways and she is powered by 2 General Electric GEnx-1B engines.

Today, yachts rely on electronics to give all the information (and more!) they might need.

When I started sailing 60 years ago we used a mast head Burgee to show the wind direction. That was just about all we needed!

Now they are rarely seen. (The black lnstrument with 3 cups tells wind speed and direction)

Here I am flying, as a burgee, the Ensign of OMAN in honour of the incredible and successful rule of Sultan Quboos who recently died; and to thank the many friends I have made in that wonderful Country.

There is a story to how I came by this Ensign. Ask and I will tell you.

My article and photography are published in their 2015 Review.

You can access it here :- www.britishomani.org/annual-review

Then go to the 2015 Review, click on it, go down, the article is on pages 12/15.

It’s very easy and safe, even I can do it!
