An "Olympic gull" is a term I became recently acquainted with, and that I doubt I will find in any field guide. This bird would be a hybrid of a Western Gull and a Glaucous-winged gull. The bill of this bird says Western gull to me. The colors say Glaucous-winged. Am I wrong?

Took a bobsled ride down an Olympic run, the one used for the 1932 Olympics ;-))

That's me in the middle, between the driver and the brakeman. Can't you tell ?

Lake Placid, NY.

I periodically wander through my archives. With years of accumulated experience and perspective that I did not have back at the time, I look again at images I perhaps previously passed over. Or I look at images I thought were great before but now look less fondly upon. In this case, I have now grown rather fond of this frame from Olympic National Park back in 2013. The extreme exposure difference I see as a feature and not a bug, as the brightest parts just skirt the edge of upper limit of what the Canon 5D Mark III camera could handle, but are reflected in the wet sand below in this moody moment. The cool foggy light contrasts with the splash of warmth of the Sun’s rays above the fog.

A typical sight in late spring alongside a trail in the Olympic Mountains of western Washington.

Snow's coming this weekend, and I'm already thinking about spring.

Hope you are on your way to Vancouver. The party is really hitting its best chords now... Go Canada Go!

I shot this while badly cramped into a mid-fuselage window seat of a de Havilland Beaver leaving Vancouver on Friday Morning. Ouchie!

Visited Olympic National Park during my road trip. Hurricane Ridge looks like a winter wonderland with all the snow and amazing view of the Olympics! Hoh Rainforest remains magical as ever!

Here is a view of the Olympic Mountains at dusk from Hurricane Ridge, WA. It was getting pretty dark by this time but you know how those photographer types are once they get going.... Thank you for your warm visits my friends!

Went for a mooch around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford last night with Manal (www.flickr.com/photos/manalsali/). Definitely worth checking out her stream too. The 2012 Olympic stadium and the ArcelorMittal Orbit are in this shot, along with a building to the south, however I am unsure of what that one is called. The river running from the right is the Lea, while on the left is City Mill River.
