I’m going to pretend that this is a page from my great Aunt Lena’s scrapbook. Maybe she took a trip once to India, and this old photo was a souvenir. Part of this is just in my imagination, but I really did have an Aunt Lena, and she was quite a remarkable lady. If you’re interested, her photo is in my album “Family”.

Woody is an old friend I met while in the army. He found his way from New York City to the small central Pennsylvania town of Huntingdon in order to use his VA benefits by attending Juniata College. I would visit him now and then in order to go on a pub crawl or do some fishing at nearby Lake Raystown. This is late seventies and Montgomery Wards had already transitioned into a big box mall store. This place was not actually the oldest Wards just the oldest I had ever seen. It was owned by an old fellow that sat in the back and came out if he heard the door open. I doubt if he had any relationship with Montgomery Wards since he sold mostly gasoline and fishing supplies. Just speculation on my part.
This one actually has the names of everyone on the back. Nice feature. There is a date stamped on the back also, Feb 21, 1935. That would make my aunt 13, I think, and my mother 11
My mother looks so much like my niece in this one.
My grandmother with her first child, my aunt Steffi. Wow, she was so petite!

This was taken in July 1969 of a group of us teenagers at a neighbors house watching the moon landing I remember the Mom there that night saying lets take a group picture of you all and someday you'll look back on that most amazing evening. We thought she was nuts but I don't think that now. I'm bottom left.
Not a great old time image but I treasure it.
Goes along today with my MM image of the Moon Stamp.
1953. The green sweater which my mother had hand-knitted was taken up by a female magazine. Its description was "Sweater of stripe pattern and dolman sleeves. It is a light, youthful style (□□□)".

and childlike wonder ...
what I am trying to relive as I start the new year
I wish to cast aside cynicism and resignation
to truly see the beauty which is all around me
that I miss when I am disgusted
and shocked by all the hatred and ignorance
I shall strive for this
as this is all I can do ...

Old photo, my dog Bobo and I then 17y. old.
Visiting a friend who had a 2y. old boy, obviously the "wallpaper art" was his work ;))
-I had a holiday in my home country, took this photo from an old family album.
I think this is my paternal grandmother's sister and her husband. They retained more of the traditional Mennonite lifestyle that she and my grandfather did. They lived in rural Saskatchewan near the town of Hague. I wish I had been able to be with my Dad's mother more when I was young. They lived nearby but I spent way more time with my Mom's mom. I suspect it had something to do with my mother ? she had quite a streak of willful obstinance ... but I will never know, she is beyond remembering such things and she was always so reticent about her feelings. Now that I am older I am more curious but everyone who knew anything is gone. So I look at this old photo and try to imagine what it was like to be them.
Clair was my father's best friend and he was a restless guy,
could never find a job that he stuck with.
He married my mom's best friend, Iris, who is now 90,
and a good friend of mine. She told me that,
because she had a good paying steady job,
he had the freedom to flit from job to job.
They had been married for ten years and were childless
but then she got pregnant and had to quit her job,
also she had to ask Clair to get a steady work.
He was not happy but eventually did the right thing.
