.....The painting shows the village of Middelharnis in the province of South Holland.

..........The view is remarkably accurate and has hardly changed since the 17th. century.

.....Hobbema's ( 1638 -1709 ) design with the avenue of trees receding towards the centre of the picture is simple yet majestic.

..........1689.

This painting is one of the most famous by Peter Paul Rubens ( 1577 - 1640 ) in the National Gallery, London collection.

.....The title 'Le Chapeau de Paille' ( meaning The Straw Hat ) was first used in the 18th. century. In fact the hat is not straw; 'paille' may be an error for 'poil', which is the French word for felt.

..........The portrait is probably of Susanna Lunden. Her younger sister Helena became Ruben's second wife in 1630.

.....The direct glance of the sitter from under the shadow of the hat, together with the ring on her finger, suggests that the painting is a marriage portrait.

..........probably 1622 - 5.

Prompt: Create a high-resolution, fine art digital portrait of a distinguished West Highland White Terrier dressed in an ornate 18th-century royal general's uniform. The terrier has soft, white fur and expressive dark eyes. It wears a richly decorated military coat featuring intricate gold embroidery, epaulets, and a high red-and-gold collar. The uniform is formal, grand, and historically detailed, resembling the ceremonial dress of a high-ranking noble officer.

The background is a dark, textured palace wall, subtly lit to enhance the classical and regal ambiance. The lighting is realistic and dramatic, casting soft highlights and gentle shadows across the dog's fur and the opulent fabric. The composition is a centered upper-body portrait, styled in the manner of an Old Master oil painting, evoking elegance, dignity, and nobility.

Style: Classical fine art painting

Mood: Regal, dignified, historical

Lighting: Soft and realistic

Color Palette: Deep golds, rich reds, shadowed blacks, warm creams

Resolution: Ultra-high (suitable for large-format gallery prints)

Aspect Ratio: square

Some highlights from my two-day visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is an extraordinary collection, from which I chose to record mostly European masters and US decorative arts, but two days is simply not enough time to see and appreciate the many thousands of beautiful objects on display.

In The Style Of William Nicholson "Mushrooms" 52 Weeks of 2022 Week #25

Taken 25 June 2022

Taken on my phone and edited with Oil Effect App and Affiniy Photo.

Mushrooms were a favourite subject, which Nicholson had been painting since the 1920s. The work is the only example that the Tate Gallery acquired directly from the artist's dealer on its first exhibition.

Billy Joel - She's Got A Way

My husband and I have completely different tastes: I like: rustic, rural, and he likes to shine, full of life, modern. I like the roses in its fullness and when they are 6 days in the vase, he says: Throw them away and I take them out of the vase, I tied a ribbon and hang in the closet looking down for a few days in the dark. At the end of which goes to the basket. How to get rid of them? even dry and old, they continue to inspire me to appreciate their delicate beauty. My beloved husband always ends up accepting the roses from his wife to stay as guests for a further period of time until new roses come to replace my dehydrated models.

..........The figure of a woman, dressed in Florentine fashion is Leonardo's ( 1452 - 1519 ) style of 'sfumato' technique of soft, heavily shaded modelling.

.....The Mona Lisa's enigmatic expression which seems both alluring and aloof, has given the portrait universal fame.

..........Leonardo himself loved the portrait, and so he always carried it with him.

.....Antonio da Correggio ( 1489 - 1534 ) was the foremost painter of the Parma school of

the Italian renaissance.

..........He handles the subject with characteristic naturalism and tenderness.

.....The scene is in a forest with Mercury (to right) acting as schoolmaster to the young Cupid, accompanied by his mother Venus.

..........Mercury (lacking his winged helmet) looks tenderly down towards Cupid while Venus, unusually shown with wings, faces more directly to the front in a decorous pose loosely based on the classical Venus Pudica (modest Venus).

.....The original is in The National Gallery - London.

........................painted 1525.

This quote it is not that much related with my image but I surely had a good laugh with it. Enjoy! (while you can):

Remember the One who created you.

Remember him while you are still young.

Think about him before your times of trouble come.

The years will come when you will say,

Back to the Old Master Style Vanitas Still Lifes again...

Vakama, Old Master of Fire, is the spiritual leader of the village of Fire and the trusted adviser of the Protector of Fire. His knowledge of Masks, elemental powers, and Okoto lore make him the go-to counselor of the Toa, and he is always willing to lend an ear when Tahu needs to vent. But Vakama has a cheeky streak, and loves to play pranks and sneak up on unsuspecting villagers! Despite his vast knowledge, however, his memory doesn't seem to be what it used to be, and more than once he has given the Toa faulty advice, much to his dismay.

As I wait for the new Bionicle sets, I thought I'd make a simple version of what one of the Turaga might look like in the Okoto-verse. Some folks who have the Protectors say the Arthron doesn't look too much like their Masks in person, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

This is Freston Tower in Suffolk, a Tudor Folly which looks out over the River Orwell. It's is an amazing Landmark Trust holiday let now, and a special place to me as I proposed to my wife at the top of it! The sky wasnt great for colour but looked more interesting in IR. I was torn between including the dog walker or not, but thought it gave it the air of a Romanticist painting.

Frustrated Old Masters painter? No not me!

About Cranach's signature - information copied from: www.theartstory.org/artist/cranach-the-elder-lucas/

By this time (1504) Cranach's reputation was such, his work was being discussed in favorable comparisons to that of Albrecht Dürer and Hans Burgkmaïr (and following their deaths in 1528 and 1531 respectively, Cranach assumed the mantle of Germany's pre-eminent living artist).

In 1508, indeed, Cranach was awarded a Kleinod signature - effectively his own "coat of arms" - by the Elector. It was a winged snake holding a ruby ring in its mouth and it appeared on his works from that date forward. Hand writes that "The winged serpent probably had humanistic or hieroglyphic significance and could stand for Kronos, the Greek god of time, a pun on the artist's name in Latin as well as German". (Hand adds that Cranach used this device to sign his paintings from 1508 onward but, after 1534, "the serpent's wings are those of a bird and shown folded. The new form is prevalent from 1537 onward and has been connected with the death of the artist's son Hans in 1537. The presence of the serpent with folded wings on paintings dated 1535 and 1536 undermines this somewhat romantic notion but has been seen as an attempt by Cranach to distinguish the work of his sons".)

My notes: I'm interested in the symbology of Cranach's coat of arms. Specifically, I wonder what the ring and the crown signify or represent. Could both be a reference to the word "Kleinod," which in German means jewel or gem?
