This beautiful scene is the Upper Falls of the Old Man's Cave Trail at Hocking Hills, Ohio. Though there were not many people there at this time, they like to linger on the bridge to take in the expansive view over the plunge pool and into the forest ahead..

The most popular of all the Hocking areas is Old Man's Cave, located on State Route 664. Here at the Upper Falls, the Grandma Gatewood Trail begins its six-mile course connecting three of the park's areas: Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls to Ash Cave. This same trail has been designated as part of Ohio's Buckeye Trail as well as part of two national systems - the North Country Scenic Trail and America's Discovery Trail.

Upper Falls is at the trail head of the 6 mile hike that connects the major areas of Hocking Hills. A beautiful gorge trail, the hike winds past several waterfalls and caves along the way.
"Old Man's Cave derives its name from the hermit Richard Rowe who lived in the large recess cave of the gorge. His family moved to the Ohio River Valley around 1796 from the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee to establish a trading post. He and his two dogs traveled through Ohio along the Scioto River in search of game. On one side trip up Salt Creek, he found the Hocking Region. Rowe lived out his life in the area and is buried beneath the ledge of the main recess cave." (hockinghills.com/old_mans_cave.html)"
One of the popular hikes at Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio lives up to it's reputation with many great views along the hike. The Old Man's Cave area includes this Upper Falls, although on this day that we were there it was a relatively low amount of water.

The creeks in Hocking Hills were strangely still this summer with almost no discernable movement - The stillness seemed nearly as massive as the outcrops surrounding the woods.
Hocking Hills State Park is a non-contiguous state park in the Hocking Hills region of Hocking County, Ohio, United States; it is contiguous with the Hocking State Forest. Within the park are several spectacular rock formations, including Old Man's Cave, a narrow, deep gorge featuring waterfalls; Rock House, a cliffed area with a rock shelter; Cantwell Cliffs, a broad gorge at the head of a hollow with a unique stone stairway; and Ash Cave, a large rock shelter with a small waterfall, and Cedar Falls, a larger waterfall south of Old Man's Cave.[1]
The park is in five separate sections: Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, Conkles Hollow, Cantwell Cliffs, and Rock House.

Old Mans Cave
Hocking Hills State Park
Logan, Ohio
I have probably walked many many times by this fall in Old Mans Cave and it just never appealed to me to stop set up and shoot it, either the flow just wasn't there or the scenery was just not that appealing. But this particular morning the flow was nice we just had some rain the ferns were popping everything was nice and green I just couldn't past it up this time.
I have no idea if this fall has a name but it's located just downstream from the Upper Falls and just before you get to Devils Bathtub.
NPR published the 100 best songs of 2020 and I might not get quite excited with some of them, however nr-18 lingered in my ear for a while, the Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson with 🎹 The Arts and the Hours 🎶 and it kind of goes well with my hidden...

Another one of my favorite places to visit at Old Mans Cave is Devil's Bathtub. I've always wanted to get a shot from downstream, since we had the whole place to ourselves and free of tourist's on this particular morning i figured this would be a good opportunity strap up my wadders and head downstream.
Hocking Hills State Park is a place where you can do some of the most beautiful hiking in Ohio. The trails are mostly easy to walk, and the views are amazing.

Panorama looking out from the inside. It's a beautiful place to see, and a great place to hike.

The erosion in the hills allowed us to venture behind the partially frozen waterfall at Old Man's Cave.
While hiking the hocking hills gorge I noticed this tree with yellow leaves admiring itself in the still water at its feet. I politely asked if I could take this picture and the tree did not disagree ;)
