All that's currently left of what was a stunning mill building in Oldham. Built 1907 by the Hartford Mill (Oldham) Co Ltd. Extended 1920 and 1924. Closed 1959 and used by Littlewoods as a mail order warehouse until 1992.

Architect was F W Dixon, there were 120,000 spindles and power was provided by a very impressive 1500 hp Urmson & Thompson engine.

After years of neglect Oldham Council have managed to get it de-listed by English Heritage and the demolition team moved in in less that a week. Another bit of local history lost for ever.

A short evening visit to the local country park. The light was poor hence the quality of the images.

Oldham, Greater Manchester.

A scene consigned to history. 142011 calls at Oldham Werneth with the 11.50 Manchester Victoria - Shaw on 26 January 1988.

My second shot from John Oldham Park. Quite spoilt for choice when it comes to composition and light variables.

MCW Metrobus, Oldham, circa 1983. There are occasionally letters in the Oldham Chronicle to the effect that 'Oldham used to be a lovely place until [x] ruined it'. Wrong. It was always a boghole.

Oldham library taken from union street

The old library is currently closed (2007 Jan) and undergoing change of use into local information centre.

library used to occupy ground floor and basement - with the art gallery occupying the top floor.

Spent many hours in here man and boy, indeed the library was one of the cornerstones of my (now very wide and deep) education as I rose from working class ragamuffin to apprentice and then to professional engineer..

Education (and sporting excellence) were always the ways out for working class people (as I once was), and we should strive to oppose any cuts in library services WORL:D WIDE since lack of education condemns many to lives of ignorance, poverty and misery.

Club trip out to photograph the local town. The pictures are all very high ISO so no tripods were used ( at least by me!)

Some pipes in Oldham :-D

A Manchester Victoria to Rochdale service, formed by one of the Cravens power twins provided when the line was dieselised back in 1957, approaches the former L&Y station at Oldham Mumps.

A good collection of vans still in evidence at the former goods warehouse.

Just about everything in the shot, station train , signals, warehouse, former cotton mills, railway infrastructure all swept away. Part of the footbridge I was standing on still remains.

There have been some powerful looking cloud formations over Liverpool this month.

Primrose Bank is a 1960's deck access estate to be replaced by a new build under a PFI scheme. Demolition has started but seems currently frozen

There is no doubt that this footbridge in controversial. Hardle anyone ever uses it. Still it gives some interesting patterns to photograph.

10.50 Manchester Victoria to Rochdale, formed by a two car Cravens power twin, MBS 50774 leading, approaching Oldham Mumps and passing Clegg Street Parcels depot. One of Newton Heath's 08 shunters in residence.

The footbridge in the left distance gave access from Clegg street to Woodstock street, The footbridge has now gone but the access steps from Woodstock Street remain.

In the distance the lines forked, the L&Y line as here to the right down the 1:80 to Werneth, the OA&GB through the bridge to the left. Clegg Street and Central stations rubbed shoulders with each other, platforms protruding from both bridges.
