After this shot I was asked by the security to leave the garage I was not allowed to take pictures there...shame!

Life in a pond....

I am going through a very tough family situation right now, so have been off Flickr, and will probably be off more than on in the next little while.

I will try to catch up with your latest images today.

Lensbaby SOL 22

Here's some Lensbaby fence fun, photographed almost exactly one year ago around the corner with the SOL 22. I think this Lensbaby with its particularly crazy and vivid bokeh works best with "small" scenes like this fence detail. It's also fun to use the SOL 22 as a macro lens (combined with the extension tubes). Here I liked the juxtaposition of old and new, and the fact that the owner of one of the houses across the street had not taken away all of this rusty old fence and had only replaced the front part of it with this somewhat boring green metal fence.

HFF, dear Flickr friends, and have a nice weekend ahead!

Night shot from top of building at same elevation as Parthenon; structure in foreground is new Acropolis Museum

There are three buildings here, in downtown Vancouver. The one on the left is the Châteauesque-styled Hotel Vancouver, built in 1939. I don't know the name of the glass one on the right, but it is obviously much newer, and reflected in it is Cathedral Place, the home of Raymond James, financial advisors.

I need contrast - the old and the new, the rough and the soft. The clash of it all is very sexy.

Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5mm F/2

This is the second capture from my recent photowalk at the Olympic stadium in Berlin (for the first image please check my previous upload). It was the first (!!!) proper photowalk in this strange year (the cube berlin in July was more like a short, casual stroll, we were there for just an hour), and the Olympic stadium is ideal for a worry-free, relaxed visit, because that place is huge – well, that's what Olympic stadiums are, aren't they? –, so keeping a safety distance to the other (very few) visitors was super easy. And what was in my bag: the EM5II with the Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5mm F/2 ultrawide angle lens and the M.Zuiko 12-40 F/2.8 Pro Zoom (but I'd used the Laowa for most captures, because in a place like this it almost always can't be wide enough), and, of course, the Ricoh GRIII. The light situation inside the Olympic stadium isn't that easy, so I mostly shot in exposure bracketing mode. Something I wish I'd have figured out how to do it on the Ricoh before my visit there, but I got lovely images with the GRIII as well ;-) I will post images from this visit in a loose sequence – and don't worry, I won't bore you with Olympic stadium images only for the rest of the year, there are still enough nice captures in my archive to ensure variety, and of course I also hope to be able to take more new images this year (apart from MMs) ;-)

So this is a handheld HDR image made from three different exposures. Sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI (mode "Sharpen"), further HDRified in Aurora HDR and finally LUTified ("Keen") in ON1 for a lighter, more colourful and somewhat breezier look, because just when I took images in that part of the Olympic stadium (at the Marathon Gate) the sun decided to hide behind the beautiful clouds we've had on that day, so the original HDR was a little on the dark side. In ON1 I've also added some detail to the Olympic cauldron – which is the original from the Olympic summer games in 1936.

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and take care, dear Flickrians!

Weekend postcard for Sliders Sunday and the first boat(s) for 2023 :) Taken last May on a nice and sunny walk along the Spree at Berlin's government district. The lady in blue is magrit k..

The historical building on the left is the Reichstag building (the seat of the German government) with Norman Foster's modern dome peeking out between the Flags of Europe and Germany, and the modern building center-right is the Paul-Löbe-Haus that houses offices for the members of the German Bundestag (parliament).

I do not recall any of my sliding/processing steps, because this photo has been waiting patiently in my "Flickr coming soon" desktop folder for a few months. Ever since I put that folder on my desktop, unmissable, so to say, I am actually posting from it. I had said folder on drive D before which meant that I never ever opened it – out of sight, out of mind, I guess ;)

Have a nice weekend, and HSS, Everyone!

South Amager Nature Reserve

The island of Amager is located close to the capital city of Copenhagen. Nowadays, many of the new structures are built on Amager. This interesting bird sanctuary, including the shed and boardwalk, is located close to Ørestaden, which is a developing area of Copenhagen served by the new metro.

Entrance Hall of the newly opened Humboldt Forum, photographed from the tribune on the first floor. The Humboldt Forum (named after the Prussian scholars Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt), built between 2012 and 2020 on the site of the Berlin Palace (which, after World War II, had been torn down and replaced by the Palast der Republik – the former seat of the GDR government), is an architectural mix of "historical and modern". Its façade is a replica of the baroque Berlin Palace, while the interior has been newly designed by Italian architect Franco Stella. The Humboldt Forum houses the non-European collections from the Berlin State Museums, the (temporary?) exhibition "Berlin Global", and it will also be used for different events. Btw., that organic shaped thing on the left is a construct made of several projection surfaces that display all kinds of informations, regarding Berlin's history, for instance, but not at the moment I took the photo ;)

Back in 2015, after the topping out ceremony, the Humboldt Forum's shell construction had been opened for the public for one weekend. I've included an imaged I'd taken back then from almost the same spot as I've taken this photo from, you can find it in the first comment (and for more photos of that 2015 event, please see my album), I think it's an interesting "then and now" comparison. My new photo is an HDR made from three images, processed in HDR Efex. I've also bumped up the clarity, so it would match the look of my 2015 photo (I've only used LR back then).

Humboldt-Gewusel

This shot tower is located in Melbourne, Australia. It was completed in 1888 and is 50 metres high. The historic building was saved from demolition in 1973 and was incorporated into Melbourne Central complex in 1991 underneath an 84 m-high conical glass roof.

I took this picture months ago. The picture was taken a good 10mins or more before the sun actually came up. It was one of the best sunrises I had ever seen in London. Indeed i was fortunate to be there that morning.

I took this picture probably more than two years ago. To be honest, I completely forgot about it. The past weekend I had to go through some archives and came across this snap and decided it was about time this beautiful London Sunrise was shared with the world. Hope you guys are having a happy snapping time! Lv

This is the seed pod (old) of a sweet pea against the vibrant colour of a newly opened sweet pea. Taken with the iPhone 6+ and Olliclip attachment. It was tricky getting any kind of focus but the blurry bits were a gorgeous colour. HMM!

Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 F/2

This is the follow-up to my previous photo, the promised glance into the "Beehive". The Reichstag dome isn't at all easy to photograph from the inside. A wide angle lens is strongly recommended, and this was the very first time I was able to use the Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 F/2 ultra wide-angle lens there. On that day the dome was also very well-patronised, if not to say crowded, which made it even more difficult to photograph. A few things I tried there simply didn't work out because there were always at least one or more persons too close to me which didn't exactly help with the composition, to say the least, and which also looked downright distracting in the photo ;-) The good thing is that I can re-visit this place as often as I wish, and I'm sure that one day I will find an emptier beehive ;-) At the moment the Reichstag roof-top terrace and the dome are still closed for public due to the Corona situation. I've read on the Bundestag website that the roof-top terrace and the restaurant will re-open in early July, and I hope that the dome will follow soon.

The atmosphere inside the beehive is usually very light and airy, even on a rainy day (and then it can also quickly get freezing cold inside, because the dome's top is open which also means that when you've climbed right to the top it will be wet and windy there on such a day). On the right you can see the cone which isn't just an architectural or design element. The cone is cased with 360 movable mirrors and serves as a "light deflecting element (...) which directs diffuse daylight into the plenary hall ten metres below. In addition, the light deflection element ensures that used air is removed from the plenary hall. It makes use of the thermal lift and directs the air upwards via an exhaust nozzle. This air then escapes through a 10-metre wide central opening at the top of the dome." (quote taken from the Bundestag website, bundestag.de).

The cone and its reverse, double-helix-like designed ramps (one is meant for walking up, the other, you've guessed it, for walking down inside the dome) have always reminded me of a whirlwind, albeit a "calm" and benign one. The Raw file was a little on the darker side, so I used several sliders in several editing programs to retrieve that airy, kind of "floaty" atmosphere. I've also slightly blurred the faces of the people standing closest to the cone to avoid recognition.

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy, dear Flickr friends!

Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 F/2

On the rooftop terrace of the Reichstag building with the Reichstag dome - which has always reminded me of a beehive - at the center. The new Reichstag dome, designed by Norman Foster in 1993 (with the inclusion of a design by Gottfried Böhm: the spiraling staircase that allows visitors to climb up to the - open - top of the cupola), is one of Berlin's best-known landmarks and is visited by more than two million people each year. The dome was designed environmentally-friendly, with a cone at the center that directs sunlight into the debating hall of the Bundestag, the German Parliament, on the groundfloor; vistors can also see the debating chamber from the dome. I will write some more about the dome's design and also the eventful history of the Reichstag building for my next upload which, consequently, will be an image taken inside of the dome. So stay tuned, dear Flickr friends.
