I leave an okra pod on the vine to dry for next years seeds. Okra is a southern vegetable you either love or hate. My favorite is to pick them small, and just microwave them a short time so they don't get mushy! Fried okra and okra gumbo are also yummy!

Macro Monday - vegetables

Growing up in Oklahoma I developed a fondness for fried okra (Abelmoschus esculentus). I never realized that okra are lovely plants until I came across these at the Tucson Botanical gardens in Tucson, Arizona. Now, I can't stop thinking about fried okra!

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), also known as Lady fingers or Bhindi.

It is among the most heat- and drought-tolerant vegetable species in the world.

Sometimes you can find the Beauty of Nature in very common and simple things which you may never even notice.

I don't know why I didn't get around to picking these but I do like how they look now dried. Most of the okra grew straight but just a few curled up.

I have grown Okra most of my life but this is the first year I planted this variety of it. Although It's color and size is different, it tastes the same.

Okra originally came from East Africa. Abelmoschus esculentus. Cultivated in tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate regions around the world for its edible green seed pods, okra is featured in the cuisines of many countries. It is very easy to grow and produces for a long season.

My first okra! What is the plural of okra, anyway?

And why do they grow up instead of down?
