A female spirit from heaven has landed on Earth
She has come decked with precious ornaments
She has come
She has a flower garland decorated in her hair
Everyone’s gaze is stuck on her
She has come
She is the beloved one of all
She is gorgeous like a deer
She is a beauty queen

Since my gaze has gotten struck with yours, I’ve become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
They say that this crazy one has become intoxicated
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
You’ve wounded me in such a way
That I’ve become crazy
You’ve applied ointment on that wound in such a way
That I’ve become spiritual
The identity of my love
Has kept me in a constant movement
The tale of my love has become famous
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
Light is spread everywhere
Only You’re there in my thoughts
My heart is dancing ceaselessly
You’re intoxicated, you’re crazy
Your image is that of purity, You are a glowing beauty
Light is spread everywhere
Only You’re there in my thoughts
After a few days off of Flickr due to an irritation in my eyes (still not very well) I decided to go for a walk. We are having a heat wave and the temperatures are too high, the next few days will be the same. Just took only few photos and settings were crazy and my eyes are blurry because the eye drops and the ointment. Treatment is until June 11. (Cropped, best in large)
This is my second image of Calendula, this time wide open. I looked up the name and it came back with this:
What is calendula used for?
The dried petals of the calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to treat burns, bruises, and cuts, as well as the minor infections they cause. Calendula also has been shown to help prevent dermatitis or skin inflammation in people with breast cancer during radiation therapy.
“People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.”

I only take photos from Fynn's right side these days because on the other side he has a terribly swollen nose. The problem appeared two weeks ago and nothing seems to help. The vet gave me a new ointment for him on Friday but so far I don't see any effect. The swelling is suspicious because Fynn already receives cortisone and if it was a simple inflammatory process the cortisone would have suppressed it.

One of Jasper's Instagram friends sent him a surprise gift this week. Along with a couple other items was Monkey Business, whom Jasper immediately invited to the Ottoman Empire. Now they're fast friends. You can see Jasper's right paw is a little irritated. Something between his toes. We got an ointment from the vet, but Jasper has had to wear a sock for a bit this week. It seems that sometimes Jasper can't handle his licker. Well, it's better than wearing a cone.
Aaron's beard (Hypericum calycinum) is a vigorous fast growing woody plant spreading by stolons [threadlike runners]. Produces a mass of yellow flowers in the summer. Google
The name derives from a Biblical quotation referring to the patriarch Aaron:
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments"

Macro Mondays - Medical
Happy Macro Mondays everyone.
I raided out first aid box (there's not a lot in there) and this finger bandage must be at least 40 years old, and never used. Just seen Sheila's finger bandage and I see the design has been much improved over the years :)

“The eucalyptus is more dangerous than other trees, the leaves and the bark are very flammable, strips of bark hang off the trunks and are carried by the wind, spreading the flames. Introduced to Portugal in the 18th century from Australia, eucalyptus has many commercial uses...for paper, lumber, wood-burning stoves and stakes for fencing. The essential oils are used in many medications for colds and congestion, and as remedies for pain, used in creams and ointments to relieve muscle and joint pain, and in some mouthwashes It grows quickly and is a substantial cash-crop in Portugal.
i'm coming alive
in places on my body where stinging and biting can thrive
on ears and necks the ointments will go
like butter on toast
lather here and fro
soon the itch will turn to a burn
and bugs will sizzle
in the frying pan of summer
so with a little drizzle
i'll take my skin to local burn center
and feel the sizzle
because in the end
the sun doesn't care what color you are
it only wants a little flavor on that meat

All parts of this tree have traditional uses:
The gum of Combretum zeyheri has antibiotic properties.
The roots of the tree are used to make baskets, necklaces for young girls and fishing traps.
Pounded roots mixed with fats are used for an ointment to relieve haemorrhoids.
Powdered roots are taken orally in porridge to stop a bleeding nose and to ease kidney pains.
Leaves mixed with oil are used as an embrocation (liquid for rubbing on the body to relieve pain), to ease a stiff neck and backache.
Crushed leaves are mixed with water and the resultant fluid is used as an eye lotion.
Bark is used for treating gallstones.

photographed this morning still in my pyjamas across the stream :-)
Yesterday things didn't turn out so peacefully: Sammy marched along the other side, Timmy on this side behind and across the stream. I quickly went around the bridge. Sammy was standing on the path and whining. I didn't see Timmy at first, he was crouching in the tall grass and growling. I tried to take him in my arms, which is usually no problem.
This time it went thoroughly wrong. Timmy fought back and suddenly a claw was in my thumb and Timmy was hanging on my hand. Ouch! I quickly put my hand down again and pulled the claw out of my thumb with my left hand. In the process, the left hand got some scratches too. Thumb in mouth until it stopped bleeding.
In the meantime Sammy had walked a few metres away and Timmy was peaceful again. Now he almost voluntarily let me take him in my arms and while cuddling him I could carry him back over the bridge into the house. He immediately rushed to the buffet and I to the bathroom to treat my thumb with iodine ointment and a plaster.
By the time I had finished, Timmy was out again, lying on the stairs and staring at Sammy. Sammy was lying on the opposite side of the stream, staring through the fence at Timmy :-) After a few minutes, Timmy lay down on his bench on the terrace and took a nap.
Being the daddy of such a little tomcat is never boring ;-)
Filou came home with an injured paw yesterday. He now gets antibiotics and we apply an ointment twice a day. Of course he doesn't really like it but he is quite cooperative and as he mostly stays in the garden it's usually no problem to get hold of him. We hope that everyhing will be okay by early next week.
Just an older image sitting in the queue. It is funny, but when I see these older shots I want them to go on flickr on the right kind of day.
😂😂. I’ve a nasty eye infection for the last three days and it’s swollen and sore, the ointment makes my vision blurry and difficult to focus. I took this this afternoon thinking it was a strange looking bug, but when I downloaded it it clearly isn’t! Still not sure what it is but it made us both laugh!
For this week's Macro Mondays theme 'screw' I used a very small tube of eye ointment with a screw top and placed it on a glass top to reflect and highlight the screw fitting.

Not only am I beautiful to look at, but I also serve your beauty and health. As an addition in cream, in your tea, as an ointment for infections you can use me. I hardly ever cause allergies.
I am told that I can predict the weather! If my flowers were already in full splendour between 6:00 o' clock and 7:00 o' clock the weather will be fine on this day, but if they are still closed after 7:00 o' clock you can count on rain. Greetings to your calendula community
The magic of winter brings us a frosty beauty - the
Snow rose (Helleborus niger)
Subzero temperatures, snow and frost, even dirty weather are just the right thing for the enchanting snow rose, which is also called Black hellebore or Christmas rose. This elegant flower blooms just when others are hide away and its white flowers shine like little snow stars.
The snow rose was already known in ancient times and was used as medicine even then. In the Middle Ages, the Christmas rose was an ingredient in witches' ointments and was considered a means of preserving eternal youth. Today only the roots of Helleborus niger are used in human medicine.

On 26 May around 11 pm, Timmy was once again in the stream :-(
He came in at midnight. At first I only noticed that he looked
clearly plucked. Then I felt that he was damp, but not really
wet. So he must have waited outside for an hour or so after his
bath to see if the opponent, I assume it was Sammy, wouldn't come back. I hope he took the opponent with him into the water ;-)
Well, closed the door, we're going to bed soon anyway. But he let himself be dried and brushed quite relaxed :-)
Addendum 27.5. 8 a.m.: I discovered a hole in the fur on his left
thigh, where it was shimmering red. He let me rub it with iodine
ointment last night and this morning.
If I counted correctly, that bath in the stream was #10, the last bath was on 1 March: www.flickr.com/photos/wolfgang-kynast/51912226722

It was a cool moist morning at Ruby Beach. The tide was out, resulting in perfect conditions for a little beach combing. The only fly in the ointment was the pile of drift logs that can be seen near the bottom of the picture. They presented a formidable challenge to getting on the beach. Luckily we were able to successfully navigate our way through and over them. It's definitely not a handicap accessible beach.
Ruby Beach had been on my bucket list since before there were bucket lists.

Comfrey roots and leaves contain allantoin, a substance that helps new skin cells grow, along with other substances that reduce inflammation and keep skin healthy. Comfrey ointments have been used to heal bruises as well as pulled muscles and ligaments, fractures, sprains, strains, and osteoarthritis.
The Big Buddha is a large bronze sculpture of Buddha, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, near Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
The sculpture's base is a model of the one in the United Kingdom. One of the five large Buddha images in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar. Surrounding it are six smaller bronze images known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha, representing the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, necessary for Enlightenment in life.
The 34 m (112 ft) tall image weighs over 250 metric tons (280 short tons), and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel framework inside to support the heavy load. Visitors have to climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha. The Buddha's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction, while the left rests open on his lap in a gesture of generosity.
The white thorn apple (Datura stramonium) belongs to the nightshade family and is native to North America. With us he can be found wild.
In the Middle Ages, the seeds of the thorn apples were used in witch ointments because of their hallucinogenic effects. The leaves of the thorn apple were stuck in horses' rectums to give them more temperament and to sell them more expensively.

All parts of the black henbane plant are poisonous. Its use as an intoxicant has long been known (“witch ointments”), which is why there are always self-experiments with henbane extracts. However, the limits of intoxicating and toxic doses are very close to each other and the active ingredient content fluctuates drastically, which is why severe or fatal poisoning can occur very quickly. The intoxicating effects can last from several days to a week. Irreversible damage such as memory loss and behavioral disorders are possible.
In ancient times, however, components of henbane were used for medicinal and pharmaceutical purposes.

Saint George's hut (Cell Kartsoneika) of Agia Anna's Holy Scete
The left rocky arm to the north of the settlement of the holy hermitage of Agia Anni, on Mount Athos, ends at the sea, and high at the top dominates the huge (for cell) church of Agios Georgios of Kalyvi of Kartsonai. It was built according to the plans of the architect Pavlos Mylonas, who has executed a large part of his work on Mount Athos.
The fraternity of the Kartsona was founded by the hieromonk Gabriel Kartsona the Spiritual (1876-1956), who came from Arfara in Messinia. They settled there together with his elder, Gerasimos the Spiritual, who died in 1914. The hagiographic house of the Kartsonians became famous.
Among the younger Kartsonians are the famous cantors Dionysios who died in 1959 and Panteleimon who died in 1992. The hermitage prepares ointments, which are certified by European Union cosmetics, but also colored lithographs with handmade details.

Happy New Year 2024, my friends, may it bring you everything you can wish , especially happiness and health.
This image is a bas-relief on the pediment of the Romanesque church of Sainte Madeleine in Charnay les Mâcon.
Christ is in the center, in Majesty. On the left, Saint Peter gives him the keys to paradise, under a bunch of local grapes.
On the right, Mary Magdalene offers him a jar of ointments. But as it is represented, we could also say that she offers him a jug of wine, why not made with the local vine. A gateway to paradise, for sure!
The Sainte-Madeleine church appears in the background at the top right of the sculpture, just in front of the 2 Roches de Solutré and Vergisson which can be seen from behind.

Marg and I took a morning walk along one of the trails near our house. As much complaining as I did about our abnormally long winter, I now have to admit that its effect on our subsequent summer has been spectacular. The wildflowers continue to be lush and abundant. The wet weather ponds that are normally dry by now are still full and flourishing with life.
The only fly in the ointment is that I sorely missed my sidekick Miles, who would have been by our side taking as much delight in the walk as Marg and I were. This is where I fall back on the beauty of the natural world. If I I have learned one thing from observing the natural cycles of the land around us, it is that a big part of life is learning how to let go. Yep, this is just one more thing to let go of, but why does it have to be so difficult?

Deadly nightshade is becoming increasingly widespread in our forests. It prefers beech forests, where, strangely enough, it is most often found along roadsides. It was once used in so-called "witch's ointments" due to its hallucinogenic properties. Even today, deadly nightshade remains an important medicinal plant. Its slightly modified components are used to treat kidney, gallbladder, and gastrointestinal colic.
We woke up to a blue sky and sunshine on Thursday morning. I decided to shuck my blues, strapped a leash on Kenzie the pup and set out for a hike along Hirschman Pond Trail.
Hirschmann Pond Trail is about a mile from our house and winds through some beautiful countryside. The only fly in the ointment was the mud, which bothered me more than it did the monster with four paws.
The above image shows one of the wet weather ponds along the way to the actual pond. I've actually seen otter frolicking about here during the wet season. But there was none of that on this day, only a plethora of reflections, a muddy pup, and a man with a camera.
