Mackerel (Scomber scombrus), a nice bit of oily fish.
It just brought back memories of catching them back in the early 70's. My mother got me into fishing, not my father and she would come out on the charter boat's with me, even in rough weather.

The lovely smell of sea-fresh herring from the pan and potatoes on the boil. The simple pleasures in life... What more could you want?
Boladh deas scadáin úra sa chistin agus na prátaí ag bruith. Caidé eile a bheadh a dhith ort?
Or rather, "Tiny Robot, halp, halp, HALP!"
It is hard to tell by Tabitha the Robot's facial expression if he is the one who put Mackerel on the grill, or if he is coming to save her from the grill.
They are known to be friends, so we guess it is the latter.
Is mackerel even something that is commonly barbecued? Does anyone know?
We suppose you can barbecue anything really. Including mackerel. And Mackerel.
Little fish in oil with a smoky taste and very delicate flesh. Best eaten with some chopped onion and a pickle or two. It was great with the German-style rye-bread from Luneburger Bakery.

When I bought this, I though it would make an excellent appetizer, a wonderful first course for a splendid lunch.
Unfortunately, there's more food here than there appears to be. After eating this, I was finished with lunch. It was very delicious, but very filling.
This was also a healthy lunch. The fish are oily fish, salmon, tuna, and hamachi, or yellowtail. I hope they have this the next time I'm in the neighborhood, because I want to eat this again.

I was attracted to this bento box by the huge piece of salmon. It was very good salmon, too, better than I get in my local Japanese market, and what I get locally is quite good.
I intended to have this for lunch, but after eating an order of sashimi, I knew that I had to put it aside for dinner. I'll know better next time.
The shiitake mushroom in the lower right was delicious!

This is a nice, simple lunch consisting of eel, soba, and rice. The eel counts as an oily fish, so it's good to have a couple of time per week.
I didn't have the rice, because having the soba was sufficient.
This bento was from Family Market in Astoria.
