Nothing to do... nowhere to go.

I took this picture looking down from the footbridge. If you look closely, Ethan is visible (top view!) This gives some perspective to the picture.

I guess his/ her name was "Cricket." Found along a hwy on my way to Yosemite CA.

You've probably sped by these houses between Boulevard and Belvidere on I-95 going 75 hundreds of times and wondered where in the hell they were. Well, here you go. I stumbled on them many years ago (and you really have to stumble on them) and have always marveled at how they survived the construction of the interstate. Newtowne West.

Overnight camp out in Chiselbury Camp, an Iron Age hill fort on the top of Fovant Down, famous for it's Great War camp badges carved in the chalk of its slopes. A 40+ mile ride from home in Southampton, up to Salisbury via Romsey and the National Cycle Network Route 24, then to Salisbury Racecourse where I picked up the old cattle drove that goes all the way to Shaftesbury.

Dusk falling meant I overshot my destination in the poor light! I rode another mile or two to Ansty before realising my mistake, and had to backtrack, so by the time I reached the old fort I had missed the sunset there and it was properly dark.

The sunrise made up for that though. Up at 5.30 and a short walk to the chalk cap badges while I brewed up some tea.

Back on the road shortly after, keen to get back before the midday heat.

Adventure touring on the island of Dominica. It's best to pre-book these excursions well in advance of the cruise. We were a party of six and our tour guide took us off the beaten path where we didn't have to contend with 6,000 other tourists from the ship. Here's a link to this great guide

Taken during Denmark's largest Tulip festival, held at the Gavnø Palace/Castle in Southern Sjaelland about an hour south of Copenhagen. The castle grounds are open seasonally as a small park that also boasts an impressive art collection and is worth a visit if you're in the area and eager to see something different.

Not 100% sure on the ID, so if anyone out there can set me straight, I'd appreciate it!

He was not too impressed with us. I have never seen this type of turtle before. He was rather large and could use a bath!!

He told me that this cat showed up 19 years ago with a dead rattlesnake. He figured it would be a good idea to keep this cat around.

The Prudhoe Bay tour is given by the oil company, and thus the driver of the bus is also part of the security group of the oil company.

He is the only person who was willing to step into the Arctic Ocean water barefooted. The rest of us are happy to just step onto the snow/ice and say we are stepping on the Arctic Ocean!!! Ha ha..

Taken on Day 14, during the tour of Prudhoe Bay, before flying back to Anchorage.

Looking through old pictures tonight, updating my Google+ and Flickr pages, I stumbled across images taken after Hurricane Katrina. I was surprised at the visceral response they still elicit.

I didn't live here then — I was living in Tuscaloosa. But I remember that kicked in the stomach feeling of seeing the destruction. I came down for the national publications and wrote stories from Dauphin Island to Bay Saint Louis because I felt like no one understood what had happened to these places I loved.

The beach erosion on Dauphin Island has been devastating, not just because of Katrina but because of other storms and a host of man-made and environmental reasons too involved to get into here.

When I look back at images I've taken over the years, I can see the island's changes, and I feel blessed it is still here to enjoy.

These trees were likely killed during Katrina, but erosion has exposed the roots even more, creating an eerily beautiful, visual elegy to the impermanence of so many of the things we on the coast hold dear.

I'm so glad to be back. I wonder sometimes why I stayed away so long.

These old pictures remind me that there is a method to my madness, a purpose to my passion. These are the waters from which I sprang, the sands where I found my first footing.

That's worth saving.

A spring roadtrip exploring the Burnt River Canyon in Baker County

A beautiful day exploring the Burnt River Canyon between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon .

The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep this trip and a napping Barn Owl
