The water at Jackson Lake was so low last year from the drought that I was able to take some photos from some new spots, including this one where I was standing on a sandbar that normally is underwater.
This area is prime sand country with several sand mining outfits nearby. The lake is actually partially in Pike County and is not the same as Jackson Lake State Park, which is also nearby. I've also heard it locally called "Blackie's Lake" and is part of the Liberty Wildlife Area. It is one of my 'must visit' spots in the fall.
This photo and the others shown in the comments section are from Jackson Lake and Pike Lake, taken during previous falls. It seems like I never get enough fall photos posted, so I'm starting early with some shots from previous years.

Century Farms and Small Town Charm Along The Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
Spent a beautiful early summer day exploring small towns and century farms along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County. Baker County is home to more than two dozen Oregon Century Farms and Ranches and the Elkhorn Scenic Byway and back roads along the way, are a great way to explore this working landscape of the American West.
Small towns along the way like Haines and Baker City offer visitors a glimpse at small town Americana at its best.
This scenic byway circles through the Elkhorn mountains of Northeast Oregon beginning and ending in Baker City and passing through small towns like Sumpter, Granite, and Haines. The drive is incredibly scenic with wide open panoramic views across the Baker valley, high alpine forests, and following pristine rivers and creeks along the way. In the winter Anthony Lakes is home to Oregon's highest base elevation ski resort. In the summer the pristine alpine lake is a fishing and camping destination. Ethan is overlooking the power station on the other side of the river. The perspective is a bit deceiving. The power house building canappear to be about the size of office desk.
Vore Buffalo Jump is an archeological site in Crook County, Wyoming. A sinkhole, formed where gypsum soil was eroded, leaving a steep-sided pit about 40 feet (12 m) deep and 200 feet (61 m) in diameter. Native American hunters could stampede bison in the direction of the pit, which was deep enough to kill or disable the animals that were driven into it. The location is one of a number of buffalo jump sites in the north central United States and southern Canada. The Vore site was used as a kill site and butchering site from about 1500 AD to about 1800 AD. Archeological investigations in the 1970s uncovered bones and projectile points to a depth of 15 feet (4.6 m). About ten tons of bones were removed from the site. About five percent of the site has been excavated, and the pit is estimated to contain the remains of 20,000 buffalo

A sunny Saturday and a free afternoon gave me time to sketch at Salisbury Beach State Reservation today. I knew something would catch my eye and sure enough, there is was... Ben Butler's Toothpick!
An odd structure with an odd name, right?
This pyramid-shaped aid to navigation has been standing at Black Rocks in Salisbury since 1873. It was named after Ben Butler, a Civil War general.
Benjamin Franklin Butler was a Civil War general who later turned his hand to a number of business ventures, and who also served in Congress and as governor of Massachusetts.
Butler directed the construction of this navigation aid in 1873 when he was involved in a shipping business using the Merrimack River to transport goods. It is officially known as Coast Guard Day Beacon No. 10.
I have fond memories of fishing here at this point, the entrance to the Merrimac River, with my Dad when I was a kid. He was a sailor and also used the "Toothpick" as a navigation aid. And he used it as a marker for one of his favorite Flounder and Striper fishing spots! ❤

We rented a bike and we exploring the island. There's a "big" island and a "small" island which are connected by an isthmus. The bike ride provided incredible vistas. No rain made for an awesome day.
Happy fenced Friday, as I watch a beautiful sunrise in southern California.
This was taken in northern California, along an out-of-the-way, single lane rural road, on which I was driving to the top for even more beautiful views. It has a very rustic look, but I admit I would want to repair the fence, trim the oak tree's lower and dead limbs, and remove at least some of the beautiful, yellow (but dead and dry) grass.... this is fire country!
