Havilah and Bodfish, Kern County, California. The old jail. Corlew's Silver City - manufactured ghost town. Old buildings from all over the Kern Valley have been hauled in and re-arranged in the form of an old western town.
Corlew's Silver City, Bodfish, Kern County, California. Corlew's Silver City is a not a real ghost town, but a manufactured one. In the sixties and seventies, Dave and Arvilla Mills found several old, historic buildings from all over the Kern Valley region, hauled them to Bodfish and rearranged them to re-create the old western town of Silver City.
While the town itself is not real, nearly all of the buildings are authentic. Brought in from all over the area, from Keyesville to Isabella, from Whiskey Flat to Kernvale - many old towns and mining camps that are just a faded memory, or lost under the waters of nearby Lake Isabella. The Corlew family purchased the attraction and re-opened it in 1992, and have spent many hours restoring the buildings to an authentic state. Some of the buildings include the Isabella Jail, church, hotel, post office, saloon, and more.
Corlew's Silver City is waaaay off the beaten path, tucked away in the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, roughly an hour northeast of Bakersfield, a few miles from Lake Isabella. It's a bit of a faded tourist stop, a little worse for wear from the ravages of time - but that's partly by design, because the buildings are meant to be preserved in a state of 'arrested decay'. A bit of tourist-trap kitsch with the creepy mannequin displays, but still worth the visit for old western buffs and history enthusiasts.

A fun weekend meeting the makers at Copper Belt Winery in Keating Oregon
Enjoyed a beautiful drive to Keating Oregon to visit Copper Belt Winery in Baker County. last weekend for an evening of wine tasting and a chance to meet a couple of incredible makers, Rick DeFerrari and Andrew Beckham; the craft makers of Oregon oak wine barrels and Amphora clay vessels, learning how these vessels are made and how they influence the aging process of wine. Rick DeFerrari is Master Cooper, brought to Baker City by the Oregon Folklife Network, demonstrated the craft of making wine barrels. Andrew Beckham is an Amphora Maker and Vintner from Beckham Estate Vineyard. Andrew demonstrated the art of Amphora making, the ancient art of making clay vessels to age wine.
Copper Belt Winery is the only Oregon winery in the Snake River AVA with three vineyards located in the AVA. Morning light over the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, a 15th-century Eastern Orthodox monastery perched on top of a rocky precipice over 373 metres (1,224 ft) above the Pineios Valley floor, near the town of Kalambaka, in Thessaly, northwestern Greece. It is the second largest monastery in Meteora after the Great Meteoron monastery.

Dawn light over the Holy Church of Panagia Paraportiani, a famous 14th-century, whitewashed landmark, situated in Mykonos town (Chora), on the island of Mykonos, part of the Cyclades island group, in Greece.

The beautifully painted interior of Santuario di Sant'Antonio a Fulgenzio (Sanctuary of Saint Anthony in Fulgenzio), a Franciscan church built in the early 1900s and dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, in the city of Lecce, Lecce province, Apulia region, southern Italy. If you're traveling on old Route 66 from Kingman, AZ to Oatman, AZ, make sure you stop at the Historic Cool Springs Camp. Its a great photo opportunity.
Cool Springs is on the eastern slope of the Black Mountains. John Steinbeck included a comment on this particular stretch of road in his book, "The Grapes of Wrath". In his book, what was it Pa Joad said about this old road as he looked back at it from the safety of the Colorado River? Didn't he compare those mountains to the bones of a country? This was the Route 66 of the Grapes of Wrath and the Mother Road of Cool Springs.
From the very earliest days, Cool Springs camp and service station was an important stop for motorists traveling Arizona's Route 66. Cool Springs was built in the mid-1920s and has been connected with Route 66 from the very start. The legacy of Cool Springs reflects the larger story of Route 66. The Mother Road gave it life. The hey-day of Route 66 was the hey-day of Cool Springs.

Mt. Kunyit is an active volcano in the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia. The trek to the crater takes about six hours, and passes through beautiful cloud forests and beside fumrole volcanic vents. In the middle of the crater lies a bubbling hotspring, and what locals call "Taman Dewa" or "The Garden of the Gods." It has a spiritual, mythical place in local folklore, and is the site where local hero Depati Parbo meditated to supposedly gain invulnerability to Dutch bullets during the war for Kerinci.
