I had come for the sunrise, but it didn't look too promising, so when a double rainbow appeared in the western sky, I moved to the other side of the pier for a better shot. Several other people pulled off the highway to capture the rainbows for social media (which was full of photos of the rainbows over NYC that morning.) Then suddenly, the sun made its grand entrance, illuminating the exposed, rocky bottom of Little Neck Bay, making it look like the moon's surface.
I was WOWed, in the zone, when a voice growled behind me, "You're facing the wrong direction!" I turned to see a strange man gesturing with his phone toward the rainbow. "Yeah, I already got that," I replied. And look at what he missed. Bayside Marina, Little Neck Bayside, Queens, NYC -- November 28, 2022
At first, I was disappointed that the sun was obscured by the locked gate and "Off Season" sign on the pier, but I also think this amplified the shadows, which is what I really like here. I've included another version below with the sun cropped out.
An offseason beach stroll in Kingston. In the hour we were there we encountered 1 dog walker and 1 other family of 3. Peace, cold and quite.
A productive day on the Surrey & Norfolk coast yesterday. Very changeable weather conditions, which means I've come away with quite a range of images to share. A lot to get through, but thought I'd post this first, purely because it was straight forward to process. I managed to get a few locations in, and fortunately I had my preferred conditions for the sea front at Southwold. A good swell on the sea, bright light on the pier, and clouds behind, all combined to give me what I wanted for this image. There is a wider view, which I'll post in due course, but I’ve gone for the square crop first.

Old Orchard Beach, Maine - U.S.A.
Once again I found myself at this beach. Such an amazing beach to go for a long beach walk.
HBM!
CP's Holiday Train rolls through Grand Ave and past Miller Park, home of the MLB's Milwaukee Brewers. The Holiday Train will have 5 shows this night between Milwaukee and Portage, first stop being a few miles away in Wauwatosa. Meanwhile, the Brewers have been making a plethora of offseason moves to re-gear and re-enter playoff contention.
Basketball is better anyways. Go Bucks
Surprisingly came across this field yesterday. It must be volunteers from last years crop, because I’ve never seen them in March. Usually farmers plant them to peak in August. They also were not planted in rows, but popped up in the old field in an organic pattern.
During the construction offseason Dakota & Iowa's operations are scaled down quite a bit. Here the Southbound rock train has about 25 cars of riprap for the plant at Hawarden as it crosses the Big Sioux River at Fairview.
This shot is on private property, when I went to the door of the shop and called out if anyone was there, a voice came out of the bathroom and said "Just a second!" The poor guy was takin a dump and I interrupted him to ask permission to go down to the bridge to take a train picture LOL.. Luckily he thought it was pretty funny too and said no problem.
City beach on Lake Seliger. Nobody is swimming, nobody is on the swing. Picture taken in early June, but the season will begin later. (from mid June)
Seliger is often called the lake, although in fact it is not quite so. This is not only a lake, but a huge lake system with channels, rivers, islands and numerous ponds and reservoirs. The total length of this magnificence is about 70 km.
In summer, tourists will find here all the possibilities for combining a beach holiday with a water-sporting and rich excursion program. In the offseason, Seliger comes for hunting and fishing and pilgrimage to holy places. And in the winter - for the sake of peace and beauty, or, conversely, Christmas trees, a Russian bath and other pleasures of a country winter holiday in Russian. Another attraction of Seliger is that you can relax here even in a hotel with all the comforts, even at a modest recreation center, even in a tent on the beach.
