The complex of buildings comprising Brakspear's Brewery and its associated malthouse in New Street dominate this part of the town centre.
In 1711, William Henry Brakspear decided beer was the future and bought a brewery on Bell Street, Henley-on-Thames.
In 1769, nineteen year old Robert Brakspear, became the pub landlord of the Cross Keys, Witney and it is from here Brakspear Bitter was born and started being brewed. In 1779, so many people were enjoying Brakspear Bitter, they needed to move to a bigger brewery so Robert moved to Henley to join his uncle, Richard Hayward, at the brewery. In 1797 Richard passed away and control passed to Robert. In 1812 Robert passed away and the brewery moved round the corner from Bell Street to New Street in Henley and had 34 pub leases and Robert's second son, William Henry, joined the business. In 1848 Robert's son. Henry became the sole owner and began trading as WH Brakspear. William Brakspear died in 1882, an event mourned by the whole of Henley-on-Thames. Three years later WH Brakspear became a public company and purchased Greys Brewery in Henley and its 54 pubs. Further breweries with pubs were purchased over the next 45 years.
In 2002, WH Brakspear & Sons licensed the brewing of its beers to Refresh UK, owner of Wychwood Brewery, and the New Street brewery ceased production and closed. The former brewery can still be seen today - it was converted into residential flats and a hotel in October 2002.
Visited Sander today at the old MP3.com/new DivX offices. The place is the same...but very different. The only office left on the north wall where SysAdmin and CM used to be was mine (and I shared with Dave and Bob). And it's a confrence room! What a trip!

Thurrock Council Civic Offices are located in the heart of Grays town centre. The offices is set in two buildings with the larger one covering four floors of office hot desking space with a modern decor. The smaller building covers two floors with a older decor that could replicate a 80s style office - the area was previously used in the BBC series 'White Gold'. The Civic Offices also house a council chamber, four large committee rooms and a modern, open reception area.

The Civic Offices is located within a short walking distance of Grays town centre which has abundance of shops and retail outlets. It is also located across the road from South Essex College and a short walk from the Thames riverside at Grays Beach.

In need of a more prominent local presence, the organization which supports the architecture profession in the State, AIA California (AIACA), moved their offices to a Midtown building which was once occupied by architect Ralph Vitiello’s practice. Originally built in the 1930’s, the existing brick building has tremendous character with concrete floors and exposed wood trusses.
As each client is unique in what they do and how they work, we embedded ourselves in AIACA’s work environment to understand how their new space needed to function and feel. Through a series of benchmarking tours, ideation charrettes and sketch sessions we designed a space tailored to their organizational needs which includes neighborhoods and spaces supportive of different work modes, as well as areas encouraging collaboration. A variety of conference spaces also allow flexibility for meetings, events and focused work when necessary.
On the exterior an entry portal addresses the street and creates a prominent entrance into the new space. Other features include a curated library where books featuring California architects and designers will be displayed. A “big table” serves as the staff break area and also a pre-function space for events and AIA Executive Committee meetings. This public side can be closed off through a series of full height sliding doors, providing privacy for the staff offices.
This new space better serves the AIACA as they continue their mission for California architects.
