There are no lights at the cabin except for the one hanging above the table, and you have to bring your own gas canister for it. We brought our own lights, which are inflatable, rechargeable, battery driven lights.

I can't tell you the feeling I had that morning. The cool wind rushing through the Earthship as soon as the door opened. The smells of the desert, sage and earth, raven flying overhead, calling to him, Sun blinding my bedroom eyes...pure joy

This is my home. Picture taken from the hill in the middle of the previous shot. The structure to the right is an outdoor kitchen. We can't make food on the wood stove inside in the summer, it becomes too hot to sleep if we do. So we built a roof so we don't have to stand in the rain and cook food.

There’s only three fire lookouts left in California with this windmill design. The other two are Calpine and Sardine Lookout.

Southeast from the lookout is Lassen Peak, also known as Mount Lassen and the namesake of Lassen Volcanic National Park. At 10,457 feet (3,187 m), it’s the southernmost volcano in the Cascade Mountain Range. Lassen Peak and Mount St. Helens in Washington were the only two volcanoes in the United States to erupt during the 20th century. The lava dome is still considered active to this day.

Summary: this was for a school assignment. :)

In September I started a minor which is all about developing your creative talents through various art forms, to discover "the designer in you" (my bachelor is in water management, btw). I'm really enjoying it so far, exciting stuff!

The assignment was preluded by a session where you had to craft several small things from throwaway household materials, and at the end everyone showed their creations. The assignment was then to make something inspired by someone else's creation, but in a way that is "typically you". The idea which sparked this build was a mini tipi tent made from blue cloth on a block of wood. Nothing special in the eyes of the creator, but it was enough to inspire me!

Fun fact: the figure is actually the sigfig of the creator of the tipi. She built it during the LEGO workshop that I gave, also for the minor. Pics of that are on my instagram (@mathijs_dubbeldam_exetrius).

____

Some technical details about the build:

- Built in LEGO Digital Designer

- Finalized in Stud.io

- Decorations (taken from internet) applied in Bricklink Part Designer

- Rendered with Stud.io

- Added background effects in Inkscape

- 1176 pieces, some of which in non-production colour.

That's it, hope you like it! :)

Self-portrait

(January 1st, 2019)

San Antonio, TX, U.S.A.

This New Year's trip was quite an adventure. I lived the last day of the year like a country Texan offgrid in a fully sustainable completely unique earthbag house. It was 90% upcycled and low impact; all lighting powered by solar, cooking by propane, with a Rocket-mass heater being the main heating source.

The New Year's Day I was strongly influenced by a Mexican culture as I stayed in a typical very old house from 1922 in San Antonio, TX. Frida's pictures and colors, colors, colors everywhere! I was told by the host that in Mexico they say you can't have enough colors. I shot here some self-portraits for my project "My Life Is a Picture" and 52 Week Self- Portrait project as well.

About the project:

I wish to look at myself in all reflected streets and places I will be passing by. These self-portraits are inspired by Vivian Maier's self-portraiture: www.vivianmaier.com

Cheatgrass was our nemesis on this trip. It’s an invasive weed with barbed, pointy tips that have an uncanny ability to embed themselves in a dog's fur, skin, and even creep into their ears, eyes, or respiratory systems. It was in full bloom during our visit. So were the butterflies.

I bought a truck/camper rig recently, and accidentally picked it up in a photo yesterday morning taken in the Badwater Basin, as a car drove by and lit up the salt flats with its headlights.

Enter our inner sanctum in a van tour like no other. What is Amanda licking? What's in our fridge and will I ever capture that epic shot of Mt Robson?

We show you all there is to see in our Bigfoot Truck Camper and perhaps even some things you wish you hadn't. From power sources to domestic comforts, sani-dumps to workspaces - this is what vanlife in a truck camper looks like for the travelling landscape photographer.

I take advantage of a million photo opportunities and unleash the 100-400mm telephoto lens for some moody mountain mistscapes that you're going to love.

We catch Amanda in the shower, share our bedroom routine and give you the inside scoop on the Fototripper customer service department. It's everything you imagined and more.

Thanks for watching
