The city centre offers many possibilities for a real voyage of discovery. A city tour takes you along the harbours, the six highest mills in the world, and distilleries and malthouses. You can also follow the footsteps of Saint Liduina, one of the most famous Dutch saints, by admiring her beautiful relics, located in the Liduina Basiliek. The museums, galleries, workshops and specialty shops are definitely worth a visit.
Moreover, throughout the year, the city centre is the backdrop for a large number of public events and has wonderful parks to settle on. Schiedam can also be discovered from the water: from April till October you can take a tour on the Fluisterboot. There are also various mooring points for cruises in the city centre.
The story of the city
The museums of Schiedam tell the story of the city. Relive the olden days in the old grocer’s shop of the Nationaal Coöperatie Museum or in the Jenevermuseum Schiedam, where you can still have a sip of old genever or corn spirit. In the Windmill Museum De Nieuwe Palmboom you can see the miller at work and exhibitions showing the milling history of Schiedam.
In the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam you can enjoy Dutch modern and contemporary art, with Post War as the main exhibition theme. The museum is located in the restored Sint Jacobs Gasthuis and has a wonderful permanent collection of over 250 Cobra works.
The Pine Warblers offer a welcomed splash of color during the drab winter months.
Fortunately for us and them they seem to enjoy almost all the food we offer from the suet, seed cakes, meal worms and hot meats. When one feeder runs out they always have a back up!
Oh, and they're awfully cute, too!
Recently I was offered a great job opportunity with a local non-profit organization so I am re-entering the workforce after a 2 1/2 year absence. As a result, I will need to be away from Flickr for an extended perior of time while I learn the ropes at my new job and get used to working every day again.
During this time away, I will definitely miss seeing all of your wonderful photos and reading about your adventures. Thank you so much for your friendships and your favs and nice comments that you have left on my photos. They all mean so much to me.
Happy clicking to you all and I hope to see you again in a few months :)

I don’t feel sad at all looking at this abandoned shed as I often do with photos of run-down places.
I’d like to think maybe with a better option, its owner had moved to a better place for a happier life.
And the dilapidated shed is still standing there not as a pitiful sight but a memory of what used to be...

Adventure in Baños:
The circuit offered by this park is a complete adventure in Baños. The excitement begins with a flight over the San Martin canyon through a 850 meters (2,788 ft) long zipline or canopy. I reached such speed that it seemed that I was swallowed by the throat of the canyon upon arrival. Fortunately they have an excellent brake system and a motorized platform that allows you to comfortably lower the cable. According to the guide who accompanied me, some people have come to fly at 130 km / h. The speed depends on the weight of each. It starts from a height of 150 meters (492 ft) above the river.
When I descended from the canopy I found a large basalt cave (dry lava) full of sand that makes me look as if I was on the moon. You could hear the strength of the Pastaza River as it passes through the canyoning.
Next, I had to cross the river bank and there was no better idea than to hang a 90 meters (295 ft) long Tibetan bridge. Two hand cables and small foot plates form this bridge located 50 meters (164 ft) above the torrential river. They say that the trick to not fear heights is not to see below, this was not an option here, you must see where to walk forced. The bridge moves with each step giving you a feeling of extreme adrenaline.
I was always with a safety harness in case I lose my balance, although I tell you that I did not want to experience hanging in the middle of the bridge, I took every step very carefully.
After this I found myself on a small path where the only way out is a vertical wall to climb. This was the third activity: the 90 meters (295 ft) ferrata track. Small metal stairs attached to the rocks allow me to ascend without major problem. Every certain section I had to change the safety harnesses on the steel cable, also called the "lifeline", to which the climber is attached all the time. The height ensures my nerves, calm.
Finally, I took a new 350 meters (1,148 ft) zipline at the other end of the canyon. In this one I could make several positions and breathe the pure air, excellent to relax after all the extreme activities.
Although you are no longer here, you will always be present in our hearts. Today I let you go because I know that one day... we will see each other again ♥ This is a tribute to you. Be happy, wherever you are.

This panorama offers a partial view of the Colorado River and the Glen Canyon Dam near Lake Powell and Page, Arizona. It is located near the colossal Horseshoe Bend featured on the previous image. The 710' high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation between 1956 and 1966. It forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.

During courtship/bonding in the breeding season, male bee-eaters offer insect 'snacks' to females. Here on the branch are two males, left and middle (with the dragonfly) and the female to the right. Bothe sexes are alike with this species but females can often be separated from males by body size...but not always.
These migratory birds can be found as far north as Finland and as far south as South Africa, extending east into some Asiatic countries too. Most commonly, European Bee-eaters will breed and nest in southern Europe, then migrate south during autumn and winter.
European bee-eaters live for five to six years. The difficulties of migration and avoiding predators along the way affect every bird. Bee-eaters today also find it harder to find food, as there are fewer insects around as a result of pesticides.

I took this a couple of days ago and didn't really like it from an artistic point of view. I was going to put it on my growing reject pile when various people nagged me to post it, so here it is in all its glory. This image is actually the fault of Akira, who dared me after suggesting the theme, and Imokon who also dared me. Kore is the owner of the legs and happily enjoying the view.

Waterloo Bridge offers probably one of the best views of the Square Mile in London. This is the small area from which the whole city eventually grew. In front we have Blackfriars Bridge spanning the River Thames.
The Blue-headed Vireo offers a pleasing palette of moss green, bluish gray, and greenish yellow, set off by bold white “spectacles” (the eyering plus a “loral” spot next to the bill), throat, and belly. The wings and tail are a sharp black and white. Like most larger vireos, Blue-headed forages for insects and their larvae in trees, moving deliberately along branches, where it can be challenging to spot. Males sing a slow, cheerful carol, often the first indication of the species’ presence in a forest. All About Birds
Machu Picchu 20221127
Machu Picchu not only offers the visitor the view of the temples and stone houses that are on its cusp, but also gives a look of its terraces and irrigation systems, which give a unique personality to the Incan citadel and its surroundings.
The Functions of the Platforms
These constructions are wide steps built on the mountains’s slopes that allowed the Incas to gain land in order to develop agriculture adapted to the landscape.
Without a doubt, creating great steps meant a great effort, but without these, the constant rains, the humidity of the environment and the steepness of the area would have triggered large landslides that would have destroyed the ruins of Machu Picchu.
This terrace system fulfills three main functions:
Containment: These constructions prevented the land’s erosion from creating landslides when carrying out the construction of cities, houses and temples.
Agriculture: Through the construction of these platforms, the Incas expanded the amount of land used for agricultural activity. These terraces allowed to take advantage of the rainwater as a source of crop irrigation directly from channels that connected each of the levels. Nowadays, crops are not cultivated anymore to maintain their integrity, due to the condition of World Heritage of Machu Picchu.
Ceremonial centers: these finer and more extensive construction platforms were intended to decorate ceremonial and/or administrative centers.

Vanuatu consists of 83 islands and has much to offer; active volcanoes, tropical beaches, dense rainforests, a very rich culture and amazingly friendly people. Of the several islands I visited, the island of Tanna has undoubtedly made the biggest impression on me. The whole island is covered with black volcanic ash deposited by Mount Yasur, an active volcano that has been erupting almost continuously for more than 800 years.
My accommodation on the island consists of a treehouse not far from Mount Yasur. The treehouse is hidden in thick forest, just high enough to be able to see the volcano through the foliage. I can hear its rumbling all day, and from my bed at night, I can see it shooting red burning lava high into the air.
The view on the other hand is almost equally impressive. Several times there appears a rainbow above the with rainforest covered hills. Together with the dull rumbling of the volcano, the swallows flying around, the deep black soil covered with large tree ferns and the chickens scratching around the forest floor this makes for a special, almost prehistoric feel.

Katharine Docks, situated on the east side of Tower Bridge, is a tranquil oasis that offers a variety of dining and leisure activities. Despite being located close to the Tower of London; this serene location has managed to maintain its peaceful environment. St Katharine Docks has a rich history, dating back to the 12th Century, and continues to serve as a bustling hub for boats, as well as a popular destination for locals and tourists to unwind and have fun.
St Katharine Docks took their name from the former hospital of St Katharine's by the Tower, built in the 12th century, which stood on the site. An intensely built-up area, the entire 23-acre (9.5 hectares) Precinct of St Katharine by the Tower and part of East Smithfield, was earmarked for redevelopment by an act of Parliament, the St. Katharine's Dock Act 1825, with construction commencing in May 1827. Some 1,250 houses were demolished, together with the medieval hospital of St. Katharine. Around 11,300 inhabitants, mostly port workers crammed into unsanitary slums, lost their homes; only the property owners received compensation. The scheme was designed by engineer Thomas Telford and was his only major project in London. George Turnbull and James Waylen were working for Telford. To create as much quayside as possible, the docks were designed in the form of two linked basins (East and West), both accessed via an entrance lock from the Thames. Steam engines designed by James Watt and Matthew Boulton kept the water level in the basins about four feet above that of the tidal river. By 1830, the docks had cost over £2 million to build.
Telford aimed to minimise the amount of quayside activity and specified that the docks' warehouses (designed by the architect Philip Hardwick) be built right on the quayside so that goods could be unloaded directly into them.
The docks were officially opened on 25 October 1828. Although well used, they were not a great commercial success and were unable to accommodate large ships. They were amalgamated in 1864 with the neighbouring London Docks. In 1909, the Port of London Authority took over the management of almost all of the Thames docks, including St Katharine Dock. By the 1930s the only regular use was by ships of the General Steam Navigation Company.
St Katharine Docks were badly damaged by German bombing during the Second World War. All the warehouses around the eastern basin were destroyed, and the site they had occupied remained derelict until the 1960s.
The dock entrance lock was rebuilt in 1957 but the docks ceased commercial use in 1968. The remaining wharehouses on the western side were demolished to make way for redevelopment.
After an offer of a cab ride while they loaded the last half of the train, they blasted off from the loadout. I recall they said they very rarely saw railfans at the time. Seems I chased to the Cow Springs curve and opted to swing by Monument Valley that afternoon and end up in Helper UT that night!
Ford offered a 5cwt Van version of the Ford Model Y from 1932 to 1937 with the 933cc sidevalve engine. In 1936 Ford commercials adopted the name 'Fordson'. The Model Y was developed into the English-designed Ford 7Y 8hp in 1937 and a 5cwt Fordson Van was based on this model.
Information from:
Wakefield Cathedral offered tours of their tower as part of the Heritage Weekend and I took the opportunity to go up and take a photo of the amazing view over the city.
They are only able to offer tours of the tower periodically because of the peregrines that nest in a box made at Sheffield University: wakefieldnaturalists.org/?page_id=1491
I took the tower tour last year and uploaded the resulting photos. This year I only produced one image, in which I wanted to show as much of the city as possible. (Last year's photos are in this album: www.flickr.com/photos/crutchleyrhodes/albums/721576486989... )
In the centre of this 12-shot panoramic image, stitched in photoshop, you can see the spire of the Town Hall, a Grade I listed building in the middle of Wakefield's Civic Quarter.
