Mother:

Are you mute forever?

Are flesh and blood extinct?

I will be your grave.

A random assemblage of collectables.

This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C and Carl Zeiss S-Planar 1:5.6 f=120mm lens mounted on a 10mm extension tube using Kodak Ektar 100 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

The little blue & green guy is making the Giraffe's horns into something, but we know not what.

Actually, this whole scene was Christmas Lights that had nothing to do with a Giraffe. What can I say? I see what I see, and I don't do drugs, nor drink alcohol.

All alone off a dirt road was this colorful backboard.

Somebody asked if it was an alien skull when I was drawing it. I guess it kinda is, but it was more about the brain turning alien on itself in the middle of the night and making a person their own worst enemy. I don’t do a lot of dark flavored art, but when I do it is inspired by dark thoughts and happenings.

For a while now I've been tinkering with the idea of doing some 2D and 3D cross-over pieces. One line of enquiry that I'm eager to pursue is a series of painted tower and box sculptures; either brightly painted in single colours, with possible tonal variations, or with intricate designs, like tattoos. However, whilst sorting through my store of old wood, I rediscovered some sections of early twentieth century packing crates that I'd been collecting. Because of their characteristic patinas, stains, and old labels, I like to use them in the construction of my box and tower structures. But this time I thought that I'd use some of the plywood to paint on. In this first one, 'Tentacle Touch Teddy', I made a start on the cross over process by depicting an image of one of my wheeled, orifice boxes on the surface of the very material that I normally use to construct the sculptures themselves. There's also something very satisfying about painting on a rough, and untreated mid-tone surface (and working with its existing idiosyncrasies), as opposed to a pristine white one.

As evident by the old-school understanding of the Tyrannosaurus' posture, this roadside attraction has been here for a while. My parents used to alert me, and now I alert my kids... "Look for the Orange Dinosaur," as we drive north of Boston on Route 1 in Saugus, Massachusetts. The sculpture is part of a mini-golf park, and sadly, the park is scheduled to close this year. I wonder what will become of the dinosaur.
