Discover the presence of the ochre sands by following the Ochre Trail – the "Sentier des Ocres" – a path through the ochre lands which has been laid out and marked. The trail takes you amidst the earth pillars and hills carved out by water, wind and the hand of man.

Close up of a part of a damaged mural in Amsterdam. The damaged surface gives it an extra dimension, I think. My picture 'Wrath' is another detail of the same object from a different angle.

Roussillon en Provence - Vaucluse

I have long wanted to upload this photo, since I always see it in the queue waiting its turn to be presented in partnership.

The problem is that there is always a newer one that I like more and I leave this for later. Well now is the time and going over more recent ones, I have decided to upload it.

It was an incredible weekend in the Ebro Delta and I got tired of taking photos, all of them very interesting since the place itself is completely different from any other landscape.

The paddy fields flooded and mowed (I think). Reflections, fog, ochres, etc. Others with the rice fields already at the point of mowing, backwaters, canals.

This is a rice field with its house, tractor in the distance with fog included and a great amount of birds, (perhaps seagulls) eating the rest.

Do not pay much attention to me as a farmer and ornithologist, I am a disaster.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a fun day yesterday wandering around "Budgie". Go ahead and view the photos in full size so you can take a virtual dip, hunt for shells among the pebbles, stroll along the soft sand, or sprint up the sand dunes at the wild and wonderfully untouched Budgewoi Beach.

Affectionately known as "Budgie" by us Central Coast residents, this 8km stretch of pristine coastline is actually a collection of several smaller beaches: Red Ochre Beach, Birdie Beach, Budgewoi Beach, and Lake Beach. Nestled between these beaches and two lakes, Lake Munmorah & Budgewoi Lake, is the cool little lakeside village of Budgewoi. It has a great little pub with nice battered flathead and chips on the menu too, perfect with a cold beer ;)

And if an 8km beach walk doesn’t quite tire you out, there’s always the 17km foreshore path around the lake, complete with picnic spots, bridges, parks, BBQ areas, loos (& let's face it, we all tend to need them these days ;) and plenty of rest areas with breathtaking views.

Yesterday's adventure pushed my total number of culled photos for July and August to over 1,000. I’m beginning to think I’m going to need a bigger disk than the 2TB external drive I’m currently using for RAW file storage! At this rate, I might need a storage intervention! How do you keep up with managing all your photo storage? How do you keep up with managing all your photo storage?

Thanks for the kind comments, they are always much appreciated :)

these colours are so prevalent in this part of Utah...a variation on ochres and earth colours...and of course the gnarled trees fit that landscape so well

These bright colors do enliven the darkening winter evenings.

The black-necked grebe or eared grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) is a member of the grebe family of water birds. There are currently three accepted subspecies, including the nominated subspecies. Its breeding plumage features a distinctive ochre-coloured plumage which extends behind its eye and over its ear coverts. The rest of the upper parts, including the head, neck, and breast, are coloured black to blackish brown. The flanks are tawny rufous to maroon-chestnut, and the abdomen is white when in its non-breeding plumage, this bird has greyish-black upper parts, including the top of the head and a vertical stripe on the back of the neck. The flanks are also greyish-black. The rest of the body is a white or whitish colour. The juvenile has more brown in its darker areas.

Ochre ringlet, Coenonympha tullia, is a Holarctic species, meaning that it is found through North America, Northern Europe, and Asia. Our local ringlets are the subspecies, ochracea, referring to its colors.
