I only recently realized that among all my pictures a black and white image of this iconic mountain was missing, so last week i just grabbed the occasion to fill this void when a few nice clouds passed over the top of Plattkofel half an hour before sunset, mission accomplished!
On Occasion a Lady Bug will come out of hibernation in my windows when the sun shines on the house. I coaxed this one on to a cut Amaryllis flower. It reminds me of Spring!
Wish you all Merry Christmas.

Sydney sunset from Cremorne Point.
On this occasion I drove down to the harbour after work, and parked along Milson Road, at Cremorne, before venturing into the amazing harbourside parkland which commences at Shellcove Reserve and ends at the Robertson Point Lighthouse.
This photo of the sunset was taken not too far from the Maccallum Seawater Pool (built in the 1920s and now restored).
And, whilst driving to Cremorne I was listening to the very "chilled" sounds of AC DC, lol. I have a mega AC DC playlist on Spotify.
And, to match the colour of the sunset, here is AC DC with 'Demon Fire' from their 2020 album 'Power Up'. Check the brilliant video clip:

On a rare occasion, a grackle or two will stop by to see what's going on here in the backyard. They usually eat a little and then they are on their way elsewhere. If I go out, they zip up to one of the oaks and hang out for a bit to see if I am going to leave so they can come back down.
They are not really very patient because if I stick around for more than a minute off they go. It's just as well, they are messy eaters and seem to drop more for the squirrels than they actually consume.
I do love the iridescent feathers and that gorgeous eye. This image was taken from the living room window. I seriously doubt I could have gotten a snap of him otherwise since they don't particularly like me.
Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.

End of the day on the alley of the baobabs
Morondava (Madagascar) - A photo (slightly against the light) taken during an unmissable stroll on the famous alley of baobabs 18 km from Morondava. I had never been there, so since I don't want to die stupid...
Do not be fooled by the photo because to watch the sunset, tourists are legion. It's everywhere. If they could, they would climb to the top of the baobabs. That's why I arrived two hours early.
They arrive in a 4X4 and plant themselves in the middle of the driveway to take selfies. I spent more time trying to get them out of my frames than taking pictures. As soon as I had an interesting scene with native people living in the area, there was always a tourist who came into my frame clowning around in the hope of creating buzz on social media. In short, it was a real game of hide and seek.
Just a taught for all the moms around the world, enjoy this day, it's all yours. Happy Mother's day.
I have the spelling right, folks, as the aussies will get the play on words here.
A galah on the right, and one on the left… which to choose...
While these two quietly enjoyed sundown at the farm, I was reminded of another pair, who've been making a lotta noise lately.
I s'pose the galah with the big 'comb-over' should be sitting on the right…
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I hope my friends in the US will forgive the larrikan humour… there's a bit of the irreverent Ned Kelly in my demographic here.
Do not think that I take this event lightly, though.
All the social media has stressed me out pretty badly.

Well I'm going to bore you all again with even more images from that last visit up to Seaham
I came away with so many images I was fairly happy with and as unfortunately we don't seem to be getting away as much as we used to, this is what I have to work with
I've said many times previously how I often see faces in the waves. On this occasion I think the wave looks rather like a sea monster, rising from the deep
The conditions that morning although not great to start with and one or two togs seemed to call it a day, due to the rain. We stuck it out, as the waves continued to pound their way toward shore
Then from no where we got this beautiful light, backlighting the mist/rain as it headed out to sea
It provided a wonderful atmosphere, conditions you don't often get
So here it is, the creature from beneath
Recommendation I keep forgetting to mention - Billy & Molly - Disney Plus

In occasione della Festa del Torrone a Cremona, Fondazione FS ha organizzato un treno speciale con partenza da Milano Lambrate e destinazione Cremona con in testa la fiammante 625.100 ed in coda come sussidio la E646 158.
On the rare occasions that I see Purple Sandpipers they are usually sitting motionless on a rock at their high tide roost. But this one was on the beach at Spurn by itself, and behaving like a Sanderling running ahead of the waves. Here it is running at full pelt just before becoming engulfed by an incoming wave.
Purple Sandpiper is quite a scarce winter visitor with fewer than 10,000 individuals in Britain. That may sound a lot but there are about 350,000 Dunlin in winter. They are usually found on rocky shores rather than beaches so this one was in an unusual habitat. As well as being a winter visitor, very small numbers nest too. The first nest was found on a mountain top in Scotland in 1978 and a very few pairs continue to nest there, usually at elevations over 1000m.
And the name Purple Sandpiper? Well, sometimes there is a slight purplish tinge to the grey winter plumage, but not so much that you'd think of naming this sandpiper purple. It was John Walcot who first coined the term Purple Sandpiper in 1789 in his Synopsis of British Birds. It had avoided any folk names until this point. And its scientific name maritima explains its winter habitat preference as it rarely strays inland.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, it didn't quite manage to get into the air - there wasn't enough wind!
In a plane of this type, and of his own design, Louis Blériot was the first to fly a heavier-than-air aircraft across the English Channel in July 1909.
An extremely successful early design, over 100 were constructed, some even seeing service in the early part of WW1.

On the occasion of Cathédrale de Lumière, the Métropole Rouen Normandie and the Normandie Impressionniste festival have entrusted the American visual artist, playwright and director Robert Wilson with the creation of the new audiovisual work projected on the façade of the monument immortalized by Monet. A dreamlike, abstract work that puts into perspective the texts of the African American poet Maya Angelou accompanied by the sublime piano studies of Philipp Glass.
With his Rouen creation, he confronts his abstract universe with a solid building and seizes the history of a city that has suffered, creating powerful images from which emerge the vulnerability and beauty of human existence. This unique show is a declaration of love to human history, in its most moving and complex sense. A monumental artistic event not to be missed.
The poems are read in English by the author and Bob Wilson himself, and in French by Isabelle Huppert who lends her voice to the Rouen show. Students from Fontenelle College and Corneille and Flaubert High Schools also recorded readings of the poems, in English and French, in the BTS audiovisual recording studio at Corneille High School.
History of Norham Castle
For 450 years Norham Castle, first built in the 12th century, was one of the great English strongholds along the river Tweed, a barrier against the Scots. The Scots besieged it nine times, capturing it on four occasions. The remains of the impressive great tower still reveal signs of many building phases between the 12th and 16th centuries.
Norham Castle, dominated by its great tower, stands in a commanding defensive position beside the river Tweed
Norham’s founder was Ranulph Flambard, Bishop of Durham from 1099 until 1128. In the medieval period the Bishops of Durham enjoyed near-kingly powers, in return for enforcing order along the English–Scottish border.
The region could be wild and lawless, and sometimes erupted into open conflict. In wartime Norham’s English garrison defended the Tweed fords, an easy crossing point into England. Together with the nearby castles of Berwick and Wark, Norham was an essential part of the defences of the eastern border.
The importance of Norham was illustrated when Henry II ordered Hugh du Puiset, who became Bishop of Durham in 1153, to rebuild the castle. This Bishop Puiset did on a grand scale, erecting the great tower on the site of Flambard’s original two-storey hall to provide high-status accommodation.
Between 1208 and 1212 King John also spent large sums on the castle. Its strength was demonstrated in 1215 when Alexander II of Scotland besieged Norham for 40 days, but failed to take it. Peace between England and Scotland was signed at Norham in 1219, and lasted along the border for most of the 13th century.
The most noteworthy event in Norham’s history took place in May 1291, when Bishop Anthony Beck entertained Edward I (r.1272–1307) and his advisers at the castle while the king arbitrated between 13 competitors for the Scottish throne (a process known as the Great Cause).
Judgment was made in favour of John Baliol in 1292 at Berwick Castle, and three days later Baliol paid homage to Edward in the hall at Norham.
Edward I’s subsequent claims of overlordship over Scotland precipitated prolonged warfare in the borders. The Scots besieged Norham unsuccessfully in 1318, 1319 and 1322, and eventually took it in 1327, but it was restored to the bishop the following year.
Thereafter Norham benefited from a period of relative peace, before it was besieged by James IV of Scotland in 1497 in support of Perkin Warbeck, a pretender to the English throne. The castle resisted attack for two weeks before an English army relieved it.
Much more significant damage was done in 1513 when James IV invaded with a large army, and this time captured Norham after a short siege. In less than three weeks Norham was restored to the Bishop of Durham after the English defeated the Scots at the Battle of Flodden nearby. But the ferocious Scots bombardment had resulted in great damage.
Such was Norham’s importance that rebuilding began almost immediately, this time to transform the castle into a powerful artillery fortress. English military engineers made alterations so that the garrison could return fire with great force from covered positions. They rebuilt the wall to the outer ward, encasing its lower courses in earth to provide strength and absorb incoming shot, constructed gun towers and incorporated arched gun positions.
The castle was maintained for most of the century, but in 1596 Elizabeth I refused to spend any money on it, and after the union of the English and Scots crowns in 1605 it slowly fell to decay. The ruins then passed through many hands until 1923, when they were placed in the care of the state.
English Heritage
On all previous occasions that I have been lucky enough to come across a Brocken Spectre whilst in the mountains I have been able to see my shadow within the glory rings. For some reason, perhaps the fact that the cloud base was quite some way below my spectre didn't appear. This must be the only time I can recall coming across such a display.
By way of a little explanation here is an exert I have found online which explains the creation of these rare phenomenons.
The Brocken Spectre materializes when a mountaineer gazes downwards into the mist from a ridge or peak, with the low sun positioned behind them. As the climber's shadow extends forward through the mist, it creates the shadowy figure that is commonly referred to as the "spectre." What adds to the mystique of this spectacle are the shimmering rings and glow surrounding the spectre, known as a glory. The glory is centered directly opposite the sun at the antisolar point, where all shadows converge. It is similar to other atmospheric phenomena such as anti-crepuscular rays and cloud shadows.
By way of the topography of this view, the photo was taken from near the summit of Fairfield and looks down on part of Cofa Pike (the rest was engulfed in the cloud) with the whaleback ridge of St Sunday Crag in the background. My return home route would take me down the treacherous icy descent of Cofa Pike and then back up and over St Sunday Crag. Of course the location of the Brocken Spectre would depend upon where I was on this return track. At one point it partially appeared just twenty yards infront of me.
