A practical approach to unblocking the path obstructed by a large fallen tree.
A perfect day for the walk out to the Orongorongo River from Catchpool Road, cool but still and sunny above the forest canopy under which the easy path weaves.
The forest is beautiful - varied in character, with many remarkable specimens of rata and rimu festooned with epiphytes, groves of nikau palms, tree ferns, mountain beeches and many other native species.
We were pleased with ourselves for undercutting the advertised 4 hour return trip by a good 40 minutes.
