I've been obsessed with butterflies recently so haven't posted for a while. the good news is there are good numbers of High Brown Fritillaries, but worryingly there are hardly any Dark Greens. This was one from recent years, it's sad to see populations fall, but hopefully it's just all part of regular fluctuations. On many of the areas this year I've been seeing all High Browns.
With these beautiful and magical creatures!
Since the season is almost coming to an end, (last date for me to bring in eggs is 8/20) the eggs and new hatchlings that I find now will be the ones that I tag and will make their way to Mexico... this Fourth Generation will live 8-9 months as opposed to the ones we see in the garden now that only live 2-6 weeks...
This morning while I was out looking for eggs and hatchlings, I spotted 5 males fluttering around and having their morning sips... had to grab my camera and click!

This is a shot of an extremely shy African Civet. I'm actually becoming a little obsessed with her. On this day, I went backwards and forwards, often waiting quietly for lengthy periods in the hope of getting a brief sighting. My patience paid off late afternoon when she came out briefly, (watching me closely) before scuttling back to her hide.

To say I am slightly obsessed with Banff might be a bit of an understatement. This is top 3 most beautiful places I have ever been to. The park landscape is very diverse and that means that you will need a lot more than the mere 2 days I had there. I don’t say mere 2 days in a way of complaint, but in the reality that I easily could have stayed a week and not gotten bored. There is so much to do and see in Banff and I really hope to get an opportunity to go back again! As I sit here in mid-December in my living room next to the fireplace and Christmas tree, I cannot help but miss summer a bit and the fun we had in Banff! More important though is that my heart ought to be so much more obsessed, overwhelmed by, and in love with Christ and His love than the created things of this world. These marvels were made to point to someone so much greater and more beautiful than we could imagine!
