So after deciding the last android book was far too out dated for me to gain any real knowledge, I ordered myself a couple of new book. These 2 just came out, and I made sure they both covered the most recent versions of the iPhone SDK and the Android SDK.

iPhone? Yes. I bought a mac so I figured it's about time I learned to do some iPhone development. I was looking for a book that would be a complete solution for learning iPhone, and this book's tag line is "A Complete Course in iPhone and iPod touch Programming". Plus I really like Apress books, so it seemed like a good fit. A search on craigslist for people hiring android developers compared to the number of people hiring iPhone developers gives you a clear cut winner in career advancement.

The android book was purchased primarily because I still really want to do it. The last book became very outdated very quickly. This book covers 1.0 version of the SDK, so I know there won't be any problems.

Jaehee points out how an interaction works and was coded.

I installed the WiTap application (from the iPhone Software Developer Kit) on my two iPod Touches. The app demonstrates simple networking between two iPhones/iPod Touches.

A great team for working on Objective-C projects.

Top programming languages in the world (Java, PHP, C#, Python etc)

First screenshot of Autotain, a simple new app I've worked on over the last two days that simplifies figuring out and finding new popular movies to torrent.

The app loads the Pirate Bay Top 100 film torrents, eliminates duplicate movies in preference of collecting only the best quality releases, and allows you to flick through them at your leisure. When you find one you'd like to get your hands on, clicking the Download button downloads the associated .torrent file and automatically launches it in your bittorrent application of choice (in my case, Xtorrent).

If you have no idea what the suggested movie is about, clicking the iTunes-store-style arrow next to the movie title fires up the Rotten Tomatoes page for the film in your internet browser – allowing you to read a plot synopsis and see if the critical consensis is favorable enough to warrant a download.

I have a few more features I'm interested in implementing in the next few days amongst my work and uni schedule, but with any luck I'll release this in the near future as a public beta.

Jaehee Park engineered two prototypes for the Pain Tracker app during her summer internship at Involution Studios. She enters Olin College as a sophomore.

When learning a new language, I like to write little things that experiment with the features of the language. What I'm finding is that Objective-C is an extremely elegant language and if you know C, and have the right book, its really easy to be productive. This is really what C should be and I consider it to be the best of both worlds between object orientation and low level language. If I had known about Objective-C, I would never had started learning C++, thats for sure.

Man, the combination of a UIWebView inside a UITableViewCell is just giving me crazy amounts of difficulty. It seems like it should be easy to figure out the size of a view to tell the table view how large to display it.

Anyway, I spent the whole day fighting with this and didn't leave the house. So, boring picture. In my defense, I was a computer geek before I was ever a camera geek.

(In case anyone's wondering, this is the sort of results you get with the iPhone 4's flash and zero postprocessing)

So I took a step back from iPhone development for a while just to get some perspective on how this whole Mac OS X thing works. So I found this book ( is.gd/dnTy ) and decided to give it a whirl. It has made a world of difference in my understanding of how iPhone apps are built.

This book starts me off with knowledge I already have in C and Java, and actually explains the differences in terms I can understand. The object oriented stuff is explained by showing me what the equivalent object would look like in Java. The other Objective-C stuff is compared to the original C language, showing what has been added, and why.

I recommend this book for anyone coming from a C AND Java background that wants to learn how iPhone and Mac OS X apps are developed.

I wanna be able to more effectively write codes in Objective-C.

An Objective-C++ class interface.

This is a tutorial - not mine - for going from one page to another in xCode/Interface Builder environment on the iPhone for a comparison to doing the same in Flash - see adjacent photo.

Decided to officially take the plug into Mac OS development. I really like the platform, the language is one of the more powerful languages that I've used, and I thought this book was one of the better books I looked at in the book store.. So here it is.. Done and done.

REVIEW (Ongoing)

Pros:

- Easy to read

- Author does a great job explaining Cocoa concepts in comparison to other languages

Cons:

- Author references Figures that are on a different page. Can't look at the figure while reading about it in the text.. Very annoying.

So here's a screen shot of something I've been working on all week. The client wanted us to add twitter integration into their app. So here's a screen shot of (what i hope is) the final product.. I had to modify the UIAlertView to have 2 text fields for username and password, and then I needed a close button on the keyboard so that if a system based alert comes in (sms, push notification), you can close the keyboard and access the notification..

I didn't have a close button on before, and it just so happened that I got a text message during QA. So it was a relatively easy thing to integrate.

I've been somewhat fun doing this stuff..

Developing an iPhone application for L'Encrier, a website dedicated to the hosting of francophone amateur novels and fanfictions. This iPhone application was a kind of training for my real job occupation where I have to develop an iPhone app for the project I'm on.

The text displayed onscreen is taken from the first chapter of Les Survivants, a Harry Potter fanfiction describing what is happening to the Boy Who Lived and his friends between the end of Voldemort and the Epilogue of the Deathly Hallows nineteen years later.

(Les Survivants could be translated in English as Those Who Lived)

Decision time, GO, NO GO

Completed Objective B). This is a signficant event. It is here I deceide if I procede to objectives C) and D). I have to make a decision, GO, NO GO based on the following information

*are you on/ahead of schedule?

*do you feel tired?

*are you injured?

*do you feel confident you can go down, move along and get out on time?

*do you have the proper kit?

*is the weather favourable?

*are you making the right decision with the available information?

*based on your previous experience how are you prepared?

The only thing you want to do is make the right decision. There is no loss of face not achieving this task. This decision has to be egoless. Difficult to do once your pumped up and moving along. Hence the forced rest, kit re-arrangement, physical marking on the map forcing myself to go through the implications.

All these things seem a bit meladramatic and possibly weird to someone who is not in this place at this time after travelling since 0530. But beleive me if you cannot honestly answer these questions with 100% surity you will have a bad day. Why?

Objective C, D

Objective C to D involves going from around 140 metres (does not sound far) from the current elevation of the road to the creek water line. This is complicated by the fact the terrain is steep (approx 45-60 degree), the terrain is slippery, wet and we are just coming out of winter. Then traversing a downward moving creekline in rocky densly covered bush at the bottom of a wet mountain range.

What does this mean?

Descent

Well the fact the place is so steep and wet, the ground will possilby not be stable. Anything you try to grab will be covered in moss and be wet. So it could be rotten. Also the ground has significant rock cover near the top increasing the likelyhood of slipping. The ground cover can be dry & slippery or wet and slippery.

Traversal

Once at the creekline the chances of going up the slope of 45-60 degrees is very difficult. If you get down you are going to expend a lot of energy trying to get back up - if you can. If the weather is wet, the creekline will be swollen making it more difficult to get around. If the weather is dry it will mean the easier to traverse but with a slight increase in chance of bushfire.

Injury

If you fall & break a leg, sprain an ankle the chances of getting out quickly decrease. Anyone coming in to get you will have a *very difficult* time trying to extract you.

Unknown

There is always the unknown factor you cannot take into account due to inexperience or factors you have not taken into account.

Conclusion

So with these decisons mulled over I decided to continue. I was confident I could pull this off in the time I estimated. I had planned and thought the situation out as carefully as I could. It's a go.
