I've said it before and I will say it again, the Olympus XA2 is an amazing camera. The meter is nutso. I don't often attach it to my tripod, but on this particular occasion I did, and I am amazed at how sharp it was and that it got the exposure of the wood on the house so well.

Might not seem like a big deal that it nailed the exposure, but this was taken at NIGHT, I repeat, at NIGHT. And that little wonder still dialed it in. Probably a bit more exposure than I would've chosen, but still.

It's been about 5 years of #reallygoodfridays, and even though this one was on a Tuesday, I'll totally miss these dinners.

In other news, I know that I'm totally behind when it comes to posting my last 2 weeks in NYC, but the past month or so has been um, a tiny bit nutso, so I'm going to chip away at getting up to speed. :)

Stumbled on the 2020 Mummer's Parade in Philly. The picture went nutso during the Game of Thrones troupe.

I know it's not technically fall for a few more weeks, but something happens in my head when we flip the calendar from August to September. It could be 95 degrees outside and I'll still be thinking, "It's fall! Yay!" My head is filled with images of multi-colored leaves, getting the fireplace going, pulling out my comfy sweaters and boots, hiking, Halloween, mums, going a little nutso with pumpkins...

So what a treasure to find this yesterday ... the autumn colors coming out on this leaf and its shadow forming a heart, another reminder of what is on the way, what I love.

Anna did the paint job : ) It was my idea to match my shirt. Nutso.

It's back to school tonight and I would have loved to have just gone like this.

"BYE BYE DADDY!'

An Owl's tale.....I finally got a chance to spend some quality time with my local Great Horned owl family. This year they had 4 owlets and all have successfully fledged and are flying. I found 5 members of the family on a very cloudy and stormy evening. The light was mostly non existent..... but these guys were going nutso! The story is that Dad had just dropped down to catch a mouse. He flew up to the tree branch and passed it to mom.....she is holding the mouse in each photo. One owlet was on the same branch as mom....the other was on a branch behind and above them. Well, that baby got so excited seeing dad bring some food home. that it flew off its branch and straight into dad!! Talons out, he hit dad square in the chest, knockings him out of the tree! while dad was falling and regaining his balance in flight, junior also fell out of the tree. Here is a small set of images showing the sequence. I cannot not believe that I got to witness this crazy moment! One Direction merchandise was selling fast, as you would expect, with young ladies parting with $40 for T-shirts, $20 bucks for a program.

Some not so lucky fans who couldn't get a ticket, despite strong rumours of on site scalpers, came to snatch up some merchandise at any price.

The place went nutso times 5 times 3000 when the boys played hits What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing. The teen fans hung on every word.

One Direction this afternoon jetted off to Melbourne to prepare for their Logies performances.

We wish the fab five well on their developing careers and hopefully female fans will only be shedding tears of joy, as the boys continue to send the lasses hormones in overdrive, as the media and marketing machine continues to give Australia an overdoes of One Direction.

Meanwhile Australian media and marketing experts wonder if or when the boys will be back to Australia for seconds, or if they will soon focus on offshore endeavours, having milked down under for all she was worth. Go for it boys.

Got my hair did today!

All week I have felt like it was a day later than it really is. I just am workin' for the weekend.

By the time I upload this photo, more than 3249 people will have seen it.

It's always been my hope that one day, through my art, I would be able to beat the stigma of mental illness, one person at a time.

I guess this is a good start. View the complete set here

Since May is mind your health month**

here are some statistics:

Severe mental illnesses are biologically-based brain diseases that profoundly disrupt a person's ability to think, feel & relate to others or to their environment (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

5.4 million (2.7%) of adults in the U.S. population have a severe and persistent mental illness (Center for Mental Health Services).

11.4 million (5.7%) of adults in the U.S. population have a serious mental illness (Center for Mental Health Services).

There are 48.2 million people (24.1%) in the U.S. with any diagnosable (via DSM-III-R) mental disorder in a one-year period (Center for Mental Health Services).

Severe mental illnesses are more common than cancer, diabetes, or heart disease (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

1 in every 5 families are affected by severe mental illness in their lifetime (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

Nearly 50% of those seeking mental health care rely on self-payment to pay for the costs of treatment (American Journal of Psychiatry, September 1994).

A conservative estimate is that a total of 12% or 7.5 million youths have mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders, yet only 1/5 of them receive treatment (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

The #1 reason for hospital admissions nationwide is psychiatric disorder (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

Those dealing with mental illness have been blamed & stigmatized for their disorders because their disorders were so misunderstood (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill).

Cover shot for the May travel issue :)

a bit late in posting this (and still need to post WestCoaster cover shots from March and April), but this month has just been nutso for me. Only 11 days til graduation and then I'm home free!!

Can you believe the planes really do fly that low? Apparently it's one of the most difficult airports to fly into (for pilots). You have to be a fairly experienced, skilled pilot to be allowed to fly into San Diego.

The hereios are showing off their tinfoil hats...so of course I needed a bow tie to match!

Since everyone around here (and by here I mean Winnipeg not Flikr) is staring to worry about overland flooding due to the high volume of snow, bitching about the windchill, snowfall and well anything else related to winter it seemed like a good idea to rub salt in the wounds...but hey...I'm like that...because I honestly don't care...for now. All it means is that I get more time to play in my snowshoes and skis! ;p

And now I have a second sign...one that can fit in my purse...and be pulled out for those bits of random fun I love to have!

His name is Bob.

I sure do hope people will not start to believe that I'm a nutso. I mean, I don't really talk to or make friends with tomatoes or other fruits or vegetables. Really.

*wispers something in Bob's ear*

Ow and it appears I am going to be needing one of those flickr pro accounts, since you can apparently only store 200 photo's on the non pro account? At least, that's what Bob told me.

Anyway, I'm going to be commenting on your photos later on, since I am now going to make a surprise housecall (just like Dr. Harry, hihi!). See you later!

my mom was really sick all weekend so I took the day off work to take her to the doctor on Monday and hung out with her for the day in case she needed anything. brought Brock with me so while she napped I took him on a 2 hour walk. there is a neat little trail through the woods near her house that I've taken the dogs to lots of times in the past & knew it would make a great spot for photos. the sun was supposed to come out but it did only briefly. :P

we saw a ton of squirrels right at the start of the walk, at one of my parent's neighbors' houses who feeds them, so Brock was in crazy mode (extremely reactive [of course we had to run into 5 freaking dogs too] & totally unfocused, not thinking, getting tangled, not listening..) most of the walk. he was a little too nutso & was really stressing me out until I realized why (the squirrel incident), and when we got out of the woods and back into neighborhoods he settled & we had a great last half hour together.

got several REALLY gorgeous photos that were BLURRY, and am pretty bummed about it. will have to go back another sunny-ish day & retry when Brock is CALMER and maybe with help. the focusing with this lens is so difficult, but when you get "The" shot, it is so worth it.

shot with the Helios-40, at f/2.8 (annoyed that flickr added sharpening...looks better very LARGE)

It's been one of THOSE weeks for me and it's just the end of Wednesday. Work is just nutso and I just can't steal time away for fun stuff like Flickr so far this week, but I wanted to drop by and say hi. Sampson has also been griping that with my reduced Flickr time he is not getting his usual profile so here's one to keep him happy. I will be by to visit all of your photostreams over the weekend when I am hopefully able to slow down. Have a great rest of the week everyone!

This guys was so nice a chill. I drove past the guy and saw his nails as he was parking. I stopped inthe middle of the road and backed up to try and take a picture of him. He was very friendly. He said he had been growing these for about 8 years. Check out the large version of this photo. He has Skull and Cross Bones airbrushed on the nails. To top it all the location of this photo was Beverly Hills, CA. 90210!

Definately not something you see everyday.

PHOTO OF THE DAY!

One Direction performs at Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park, Sydney, Australia

Today One Direction mania broke loose at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion.

It may have been Friday 13th, but 3,000 Australian fans got lucky to be part of the huge crowd that made up the enthusiastic audience.

The British boy band has teenage Aussie lasses screaming for more, with the occasional tear been shed for those who miss out on their deepest desires.

Hours before Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis took the stage at the Hordern Pavilion, they were screaming in anticipation of seeing the Fab Five sing their hearts out.

The matinee show sold out two Sydney concerts in under three minutes kicked off at 3.45pm with an entirely appropriate teen anthem Na Na Na.

The performance was a slick mix of song, video, dance and audience participation.

The lads are well practiced at at working the crowd, with smiles all around, finger pointing and all that. In time its expected that many of the boys will further develop their vocal, dancing and even song writing prowless.
