Nugget Point is an iconic panoramic platform on the Catlins coast with one of the country’s oldest lighthouses perched above the famous rocks named by Captain Cook because they looked like pieces of gold.
It’s a short stroll to the Tokata lighthouse, with sensational views of the big blue beyond. If you look down onto the rocks below the lighthouse, you'll see a colony of fur seals frolicking in the surf, make sure you bring your binoculars. It is also home to some of the world’s rarest penguins and one of the only places you might see seals, sea lions and elephant seals in the same area. There are also, sooty shearwaters, spoonbills and a breeding colony of gannets. If you watch the water for a while, you might see Hector's dolphins. It's an easy walk to Roaring Bay, where you can hide and wait for yellow-eyed penguins with their distinctive lashes. Early morning or sunset are the best times for viewing.

Nugget went on a trip to the old farm and had a great time! She ran and played so hard she was worn out by the end of the day! I thought she was going to try to drink the pond dry! LOL

Nugget staring across the yard. I didn't see what she spotted, either a bird or a squirrel... or, the BBQ place down the street! Every time she gets loose, she heads of there and hangs around their BBQ pit. LOL
On our way back to Dunedin the other day we stopped at the Nuggets lighthouse.. it was raining and I had trouble keeping raindrops off my lens but I managed a few photos on our walk up to the lighthouse.
I gave this one the TTV treatment.
Nugget Point Lighthouse, situated at Nugget Point in the Otago region of South Island. It was constructed from 1869 to 1870. The lighthouse first ignition was in year 1870.
Nugget finally stood still long enough to get a shot of her. She's trying to figure out how to escape taking a bath. She's the dustiest dog I've ever had!

This formation is in northern Utah, and is the homologue of the more famous Navajo Sandstone down south. It underlies landforms in the Wasatch foothills. Shot with 35mm Tri-X and digitally scanned.
The Nuggets are a close group of four granite islets, with a combined area of 6.76 hectares (16.7 acres), in south-eastern Australia. They are part of the Schouten Island Group, lying close to the eastern coast of Tasmania near the Freycinet Peninsula. Because of their relative inaccessability, and without predators, mammals or snakes, these islands are home to many birds in the breeding season. Recorded breeding seabird species are little penguin, short-tailed shearwater, fairy prion, common diving-petrel, white-faced storm-petrel, Pacific gull, silver gull, black-faced cormorant and Caspian tern.
It's 22 degrees outside with a 9 degree wind chill with wind about 18mph and gusting to over 30, and the temp is dropping like a rock. So me and Nugget is sitting and watching Have Gun Will Travel! I think she'd rather be outside but it's much too cold for her.
Now, if I could just get Grasshopper the cat to get along with Nugget... Nugget wants to play with Grasshopper, but Grasshopper doesn't like any other animals! LOL

For Macro Mondays theme "Candy", these are Hershey's Nuggets, bite sized blocks of chocolate, sometimes with almonds. This view is a bbit over 1 inch wide (they are small blocks). There are some small deformities - it was almost 100 F on the back porch I use for a studio, and as careful as I was, I still managed to dent some of the melting candy.

The iconic Nugget Point (or 'The Nuggets' as referred to by the locals) is located near Kaka Point. There is a car park area from where you commence your walk to the Nugget Point Lighthouse. Wave-eroded rocks, which are likened to the shape of gold nuggets, can be seen from the viewing platform at the end of the path.
The 40 ton fishing boat, Baldur KE 97 nicknamed “Gullmolinn” (The Gold Nugget), was the first Icelandic boat built with a front bridge. Designed by Egil Þorfinnsson and Ólafar Björnsson, the boat’s wheelhouse is on the back of the bridge and higher to give a unobstructed view as to what is happening on deck. The boat was built in Sweden and delivered to Baldur Corp in Keflavík, Iceland in March 1961. The boat went to work immediately. Gullmolinn was the first boat in Iceland to utilize stern trawling and steel wire instead of rope when fishing with the Danish seine. The designs promoted crew safety as demonstrated by its accident free operational record. During 47 years, the boat and crew landed 28,000 tons of fish, not including the fish caught for fish meal. After its retirement, the boat was placed on display on the rocks along the Keflavik Harbour along with a monument telling the boat’s story.
Information in ths caption taken from the monument near the boat's current resting place.
This little nugget found a nugget to munch on. This is a baby round-tailed squirrel. It had two other siblings and momma nearby. They were just so dang cute. I had to watch them for a while. A shot I posted with one pestering momma in the comments.

The storm clouds moving down the Owens Valley provided quite a show. I managed to find this interesting rock as a decent foreground.

Still buffeted by strong winds from a passing storm, the resilient Nugget Point Lighthouse built in 1869 on South Island New Zealand's east coast continues to throw its light into the night sky that is also shared with the distant city lights of Dunedin, the Milky Way stretching overhead, Venus rising over the horizon, and the Small Magellanic Cloud.
