J'ai eu beaucoup de mal à avoir un rendu satisfaisant sur la fumée. Probablement parce que je n'ai pas utilisé la bonne méthode. Et lorsque j'y suis à peu près arrivé, une des deux bougies c'est éteinte pendant la photo, noyée dans sa cire. Cela m'a obligé à faire un montage en poste production

I had a lot of trouble getting a good result on the smoke. Probably because I did not use the right method. And when I'm almost there, one of the two candles is extinguished during the photo, drowned in its wax. This forced me to make a montage in post production

Baptisé « la grande écluse », le barrage était censé, en cas d’attaque, en obstruant ses arches par fermeture des vannes, faire monter le niveau de la rivière l’Ill et inonder tous les terrains situés au sud de la cité, et donc les rendre infranchissables par l’ennemi.

La belle Ardèche en été. Elle est actuellement noyée sous des trombes d'eau dévastatrices.
Ici, un hameau de la commune de Beaumont, commune limitrophe de Saint-Mélany où je séjournais alors, et où coule la Beaume, qu'on voit sur l'image. Il s'agit d'un affluent de l'Ardèche et d'un sous-affluent du Rhône. Sa longueur est de 44 km.

Blue River Provincial Park is situated in the south east of "Grand Terre" which is the main island of New Caledonia. It is a nature reserve (reachable in about 1 hour from Noumea by car) and provides amazing possibilities for hiking, cycling or just enjoying the nature.
L'expression vient d'un de mes livres favoris : l'envoûtant "Livre des Nuits" de Sylvie Germain.
P.185 elle fait le récit de l'histoire de la malheureuse Margot qui avait mis tout son coeur dans la réalisation de sa propre robe de mariée: un vrai petit bijou pour lequel elle n'avait compté ni ses heures ni son argent. Mais le jour des noces son fiancé Guillaume ne l'a pas rejointe dans la nef.. Lâchement il lui a fait porter par un petit garnement un simple billet sur lequel était écrit: "Ne m'attendez pas, je ne viendrai pas- je ne vous reverrai jamais- oubliez moi" La pauvre "maumariée" comme elle fut dès lors surnommée, en perdit à jamais la raison...
Ma petite lavandière Chloé a elle aussi attendu en vain son prince charmant qui a disparu le jour de leurs noces. Voilà pourquoi quelques jours après qu'elle se soit enfuie en hurlant et en pleurant de l'église, c'est noyée "sous les saules qui pleurent" qu'elle fut retrouvée par la petite Esther...

In the novel of Sylvie Germain "le livre des Nuits" (one of my favorites books) we can read the sad story of Margot, a young girl who has waited vainly her fiancé the day of the wedding. The poor Margot became crazy and stayed virgin for the rest of her life...
Like Margot, Chloe my little washerwoman has waited her lover in the church, but he never came! She ran away, crying and screaming and disappeared... Few days later Esther found her drowned in the river, in the shade of the "weeping willows"...
Chapelle SAN GHJUVANNI EVANGELISTA - SAN GHJUVANNI EVANGELISTA Chapel
De style roman, la chapelle érigée au bord du Tavignano semble veiller sur le pont génois (U Ponte a u Larice d’Altiani). Comme d’autres chapelles, sa datation fait débat : elle aurait été reconstruite en 1600 par maitre Alissandro avec des matériaux d’une chapelle précédente datant du 10e ou du 11e siècle (Dim : 11,50m x 6,50 m). La nef se termine par une abside semi-circulaire voutée de très petites pierres noyées dans un mortier de chaux. Deux portes donnent accès à l’intérieur : l’une à l’ouest et l’autre au sud. Des fenêtres meurtrières sont présentes de chaque côté et une au centre de l’abside. Cette petite chapelle champêtre actuellement désaffectée était dédiée à San Giovanni Evangelista. Classée aux MH le 14/01/77.
In Romanesque style, the chapel built on the banks of the Tavignano seems to watch over the Genoese bridge (U Ponte a u Larice d’Altiani). Like other chapels, its dating is debated: it was rebuilt in 1600 by master Alissandro with materials from a previous chapel dating from the 10th or 11th century (Dim: 11.50m x 6.50m). The nave ends with a semi-circular apse vaulted with very small stones embedded in lime mortar. Two doors provide access to the interior: one to the west and the other to the south. There are arrow-slit windows on each side and one in the center of the apse. This small, currently disused country chapel was dedicated to San Giovanni Evangelista. Listed as a Historic Monument on 14/01/77.
These mountains, which rise almost vertically, forming deep fjords in these drowned valleys, appear and disappear in a matter of moments, at the whim of the wind, which can camouflage them beneath the clouds, however imposing they may be.

The location of this photo at the Hilsenfirst is possible thanks to the version that Mike posted on his thread (see comment below).
The Hilsenfirst (altitude 1274m) is located in the massif which separates the Valley of Guebwiller and the Valley of Munster, between the Grand Ballon and the Petit Ballon.
The view shows the valley of Guebwiller drowned in the mist, in the center left, as well as the massifs of Judenhut, Sudelkopf and Hartmannswillerkopf from the right towards the center of the image.
This photo was given to me by my friend Julien.

J'ai profité de ma soirée comète, une fois que celle-ci fut complètement noyée dans les nuages, pour faire quelques photos dans la direction sud quelque temps épargnée par les nuages. J'ai ciblé l'amas ouvert M41 et les étoiles Sirius et Mirzam de la constellation du grand chien. M41 est un amas ouvert d'étoiles large de 25.6 années lumières (AL), distant de 2260 AL (quand sa lumière qui nous parvient aujourd'hui est partie, les chinois observaient pour la première fois la comète de Halley !), agé de 240 millions d'années (très jeune donc) et s'éloignant de nous à la vitesse de 23 km/s.

Conditions : nuit très nuageuse.
Matériel : Canon 1200D + Samyang 135mm @f2.8 sur Star Adventurer. Expo : 18 poses (18 exploitables sur 35) de 60 s à 1600 iso + DOFs.
Traitement : SIRIL + Starnet + Gimp. Les étoiles ont un halo à cause du léger voile nuageux au sud.

I took advantage of my comet evening, once it was completely engulfed in clouds, to take some photos in the southern direction, which was spared from the clouds for a while. I targeted the open cluster M41 and the stars Sirius and Mirzam in the constellation of Canis Major. M41 is an open cluster of stars spanning 25.6 light-years (LY) wide, located 2260 LY away (when its light reaching us today began its journey, the Chinese were observing Halley's Comet for the first time!), aged 240 million years (very young indeed), and moving away from us at a speed of 23 km/s.

Conditions: very cloudy night.
Equipment: Canon 1200D + Samyang 135mm @f2.8 on Star Adventurer. Exposure: 18 shots (18 usable out of 35) of 60 s at 1600 iso + dark frames.

So, lots is new.
1. I'm taking pictures again. It's healthy and comfortable. (I'm not sharing those pictures anywhere. Guess that one's not new.)
2. I caved and bought an InstaLab and it's amazing. I didn't like it conceptually but I've come to terms with my hesitation. And I made this with it. On super old film.
3. I live in New York City now. It's huge and brilliant and has been so so so good for me.

Week 36 — Outtake #1
These are the color versions of this week's shot. I'm not very happy with them, but the people around me seem to be, so here they are.
I'm back home, already exhausted, but hoping to be able to escape again soon. In the meantime, I'll take my time processing the about 1500 photos from Africa — and post them as they come. :)
(Espeletia pycnophylla) B28I7392 Los Nevados Del Ruiz - Colombia
After looking for the Stuebel Hummingbird at 4100 mt, during a hike, at lower altitudes (3800 mt), the fog started to appear in waves. We have seen it slowly densify to the point of making these plants called Espeletia (Espeletia pycnophylla) those kinds of ghosts (or giant monks) that the first Spanish explorers thought they saw. Espeletia flower nectar is the favorite food of the Stuebel Hummingbird.
Drowned in the fog, the slopes of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano take on alternately fascinating and disturbing aspects; the atmosphere becomes fascinating when you still perceive shapes and silhouettes, but it becomes more disturbing, when, on a steep hiking trail, you can't even see the end of your feet ... The next stride can rush you 40 mt lower, then, we stop and sit down very wisely, until the tablecloths dissipate somewhat.
Après avoir recherché le Colibri de Stuebel à 4100 mt, lors d'une randonnée, à plus basse altitude (3800 mt), le brouillard a commencé à se manifester par vagues. Nous l’avons vu lentement se densifier jusqu’à faire de ces plantes nommées Espeletia (Espeletia pycnophylla) ces sortes de fantômes (ou de moines géants) que les premiers explorateurs espagnols avaient cru voir. Le nectar des fleurs d'Espeletia est la nourriture préférée du Colibri de Stuebel.
Noyées dans le brouillard, les pentes du volcan Nevado del Ruiz revêtent des aspects tour à tour fascinants et inquiétants ; l’ambiance devient fascinante quand vous percevez encore des formes et des silhouettes, mais elle devient plus inquiétante, quand, sur un chemin de randonnée escarpé, vous ne voyez même plus le bout de vos pieds... La foulée suivante peut vous précipiter 40 mètres plus bas, alors, on s’arrête et on s’assoit bien sagement, jusqu’à ce que les nappes se dissipent quelque peu.
