It was always going to be controversial. A 25-foot-tall sculpture of a man cradling a condo, standing on multi-coloured cubes. Commissioned by the developer Camrost Felcorp and made by celebrated German artist Stephan Balkenhol, Toronto Man (2019) is one of the city’s newest public artworks. It got a mixed reception when it was unveiled in August. (2019).

Red Embers will transform Allan Gardens in downtown Toronto. For the first time in the city’s history, monumental art by Indigenous womxn artists will be displayed for free to the public. The banners have been created in Toronto and across Canada by commissioned artists and will float from 13 tall charred-black gates throughout the park. Two of the banners will face the Victorian-era glass Palm House, while the others will straddle the major pathways of the park, allowing visitors to admire them from all directions and walk below them. The local eastern cedar, hand-peeled structures will measure about 18 feet high with vertical posts that cross at the top.
Red Embers opens to the public with a smudging ceremony, drumming and guest speakers on June 8, 2019, 11 AM. All are welcome!
Red Embers honours the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the strength of community resilience. All the banners and gates will remain in the park from June until the annual October 4, 2019 Sisters in Spirit Vigil. Red Embers has been designed by the team of Indigenous designers Larissa Roque, Tiffany Creyke, and Citylab’s Lisa Rochon. The team won a Public Space Incubator competition grant in 2018, awarded by Park People. Commissioned featured artists include Kristen Auger, Annie Beach, Hillary Brighthill, Hannah Claus, Sarah Biscarra Dilley, Rosalie Favell, Adrienne Greyeyes, Lido Pimienta, Louise Solomon, Rolande Souliere, Eladia Smoke, and Janelle Wawia. Artists, including Catherine Tammaro and Lindsey Lickers, will work directly with our Charitable Partner, the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto, to create two banners with volunteers. World-renowned Spanish street artist Okuda San Miguel has just completed the tallest mural of his career thus far: a vibrant 23-storey piece entitled Equilibrium on the Parkside Student Residence building located at Carlton and Jarvis. San Miguel worked in collaboration with Toronto charity, The STEPS Initiative on the mural, which began on June 20 and was completed on July 13.
This is his first piece in Toronto and his second in Canada following a mural in Vancouver that was completed in late 2017.
The psychedelic rainbow colours and geometric shapes make San Miguel’s work instantly recognizable. “The gay flag is like my palette because all the colours together symbolize, for me, the multicultures, multigender, everything,” he explains. An angel triumphantly bearing a vertical rainbow flag juxtaposes the horizontal rainbow stripes in the background.
The focal point of the mural is a geometric face with Indigenous features, according to San Miguel, as well as two other profiles of faces on either side. “I love to reference ancestral art,” he says. “I think you have to meet and to love your roots in order to go forward.”
An exploding Kaos star, bird-humans cradling the Earth and an animalistic twist on a winged Venus also make appearances on the busy mural. “It’s a spiritual composition,” San Miguel notes. “A lot of my works talk about the equilibrium between animals and humans and the universal equality and balance.”
The project has also involved the local community in more ways than one. Local artists worked alongside San Miguel on the mural and it has received a very positive response from the community since its inception in June.
“People are saying that we are helping to shift positively, the energy that is here,’” says Stephanie Bellefleur, Toronto-based contemporary mural artist and art administrator for The STEPS Initiative. “We’ve had quite a few people who live in the buildings around here just be really happy with a great amount of gratitude.”
Anjuli Solanki, director of community programs at STEPS, says that San Miguel’s design was selected from a short list of artists because it “really captured the diverse neighbourhoods that are intersected in this area.”
“Colour is something that is very healing for people,” Bellefleur says. “The way Okuda paints in more of a three-dimensional way makes it feel like you’re within the space and I think that makes people feel like they’re a part of the area and what is happening.”

In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square has gotten two upgrades: a custom-vinyl wrap around its famous photo-op letters and the addition of a Medicine Wheel.
The wrap, which resembles birch bark inlaid with Indigenous symbols of significance, was designed by Maaiingan Productions, an Indigenous owned and operated communications firm based in Toronto and Wasauksing First Nation. The Medicine Wheel was chosen in consultation with the Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre.
“The Medicine Wheel is a healing depiction. There’s a lot of teachings that are in it,” says Frances Sanderson, co-chair of the city's Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee. She adds that its purpose is to spark conversations and to prompt education and understanding.
According to Sanderson, the addition shows the City of Toronto’s support for Indigenous communities and the work that has been accomplished together.
However, both fixtures are only temporary – the Medicine Wheel will be taken down after Canada Day and the vinyl wrap will be removed in the fall. Sanderson says the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee plans to reuse both elements in public installations in the future.
In early October, the Medicine Wheel will appear again outside City Hall for the Indian Residential School Survivors (IRSS) Legacy Celebration.
The additions to the Toronto sign coincide with the launch of a public awareness campaign to increase Indigenous visibility in the city. The City of Toronto and Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council (TASSC) hope to “raise awareness about Toronto Indigenous heritage and the resilience of Indigenous peoples in Toronto” with the fifth phase of its Toronto For All campaign.
Created by social impact agency PUBLIC Inc., the campaign features a land acknowledgment statement and will appear on social media and transit ads this month.

My mom went to the CN Tower this week with my sister's class on a field trip. I'm such a mean daughter, but I didn't give her my camera. For the record, she doesn't like carrying my heavy camera either, so it's not really my fault.
Anyways, she ended up taking my iPhone instead. She took this shot from the top. I was so proud of her. Mind you, a lot of the pictures she took had her thumb in it, but overall, she didn't disappoint me. She was so excited to show me all the pictures. The iPhone didn't fail her.
I have never been to the top of the CN Tower yet and I've been living in Canada for more than 10 years now. I'll go, someday. But when I do go, I'll go for the Edge Walk. The thrill, and the excitement. I need that.
The new VSCO Cam app came out yesterday. I'm pretty impressed with it. I really like the presets they have, and its an easy way to process photos on my iPhone. I used the app for this edit. :-)
I've been in real estate classes all week...and bored out of my mind. So many random things I have to learn. My exam is next week and after that, no more real estate exams! Lol.
Anyways, back to class. I should be paying attention right now... :D

Compositionally Challenged: Black and white architecture

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Toronto's Bloor-Danforth line, as both blogTO and Transit Toronto. Both of these blogs have extensive photos from the beginning of this west-east subway route, back when Toronto built mass transit. The latter blog, however, also mentions the upcoming artist-led celebration at Chester station, described last week at NOW Toronto.
The subway is part of the daily grind for many of us, but Jess Dobkin and the fine folks at the Artists’ Newsstand in Chester station aim to add some fun and celebration to our commutes.
To that end, they’re throwing a 50th birthday party for the Bloor-Danforth line, which opened on February 25, 1966, starting at 4 pm on Thursday, February 25, in the space in front of their revitalized former Gateway newsstand.
Theatre artist Moe Angelos, whose historical research uncovered the anniversary, kicks off the event at 4 pm with a performance. Newsstand founder Dobkin says that the timing is designed to catch the early rush hour of young people coming home from school, many of them fans of the newsstand. Dainty Box does a family-friendly burlesque performance to the music of the Supremes at 6:30 pm, and DJ Nik Red spins sounds of the 60s, including black power anthems. Artist Jackie Lee transforms the kiosk into a piñata, and there’ll be birthday cake and balloons.
In addition to focusing on the subway’s construction, the event also explores what was newsworthy in 1966, including the Vietnam War, the rise of second-wave feminism and the founding of the Black Panther Party.
The project has transformed the stall in the east-end station, which sat empty for six year, into a hybrid performance space/gallery/alternative press and artist books outlet that also functions in the usual way as a source for snacks and magazines. The programming is sensitive to the needs of TTC users and the surrounding community. Performances usually last around 15 minutes, since there is no seating, and Dobkin reports no problems with the TTC. She relished the mix of intentional and accidental audience members, recalling a service interruption on the line last fall that brought hundreds of commuters spilling into the station during an artist talk on the history of newsstands.

Although I barely ever do these, I went to the Royal Botanical Gardens Yesterday and they had such wonderful vines set up along their paths surrounded by these wire fences.
I had a lovely evening there and took tons of shots! I'm just irritated that some of my shots didn't get the proper focus, and they were of some of the most beautiful roses! I think we're going to the same area again today, so I might get a chance to shoot some more pictures. :-)

Sunday evening, I travelled north on the 29 Dufferin bus up to the Yorkdale Shopping Centre to have my photo taken with Yorkdale's Fashion Santa. If Justin Bieber did it, why not me?

Not even five minutes has passed after arriving at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre and already, Paul Mason is approached by shoppers who want photographs.
It’s hard not to notice the 51-year-old model. Dressed in a burgundy, velvet blazer with a plaid scarf draped over top, his appearance is striking. Greeting onlookers with a warm smile and his bright blue eyes, the white bearded man bears a resemblance to one of this holiday season’s most popular characters.
Each week, Mason can be found at Yorkdale posing for selfies with mall-goers to raise money for the Sick Kids Foundation. The mall will donate one dollar (up to $10,000) for every photo taken with the stylish Santa and posted on social media with the hashtag #YorkdaleFashionSanta. The campaign was started last year, but it was only this year that it went viral.
“It’s gone really well. Better than expected,” Mason says with a laugh.
It has gone so well, the phenomenon has gone global. The Mirror>, a British publication, suggests that this year, the people involved took their time planning.
For this year's Fashion Santa push, Paul and Yorkdale had more time to work on the professional-looking shots, taken back in October, and attached a charitable cause to the campaign.
Lucia Connor, Marketing Director at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, said: "The response has been spectacular - we knew there was magic in this year's campaign.
"Adults are delighting in an interpretation of Santa that they can enjoy.
"Fashion Santa has given adults a way to reconnect with the magic of the holidays.
"Paul is a very talented model and his strong facial features appeal to both women and men.
These two buildings, currently housing most of an Aroma coffee shop are part of the Five St. Joseph condo project at Yonge and St. Joseph. I remember when these two buildings, and more further down the street to left, were functional standalone buildings. (The one on the corner housed, among other businesses, a Second Cup coffee shop.) They ended up being bought out by the Five project, added to the complex but with their facades preserved.
Richard Longley in NOW Toronto worries that this strategy towards preserving an appearance of Yonge Street's past will do little to preserve its actuality.
Mark Garner, executive director of the Downtown Yonge BIA, is worried about “the usual Toronto facadism.” Quoted in the blog YongeStreet, he says: “The HCD is good to preserve the built heritage component, but it may not have enough teeth to protect the lived experience.”
What about the cultural experience of life on Yonge Street, the loan, vape and condom shops, fortune tellers and massage parlours that contribute so much to the strip’s anarchy? Are they doomed to succumb to gentrification?

FIVE condos at 5 St. Joseph gives a glimpse of Yonge’s future. It’s a huge project – a 48-storey condo tower by Hariri Pontarini Architects above nearly half a block of heritage buildings that, between 1905 and the late 60s, were occupied by Rawlinson Cartage.
Fifty years later, this site has emerged from “the largest facade retention ever undertaken in Toronto.” Supervised by ERA Heritage Architects, it involved suspension of the facade over the excavation pit until the condo tower was built to its four-storey height. Thanks to the gap required for access to underground parking (and Eldon Garnett’s sculpture Artifacts Of Memory), the setback between the FIVE condo tower and the Yonge streetwall is 30 metres, three times more than the 10 metres recommended for other parts of the Yonge Street HCD.
East of FIVE, in the shadow of its looming condo tower, the restored buildings at 606-618 Yonge accommodate a Victorianized Royal Bank and an Aroma Espresso (but so far, no pet spa) steps north of more traditional businesses: a tattoo parlour, nail salon, perfume outlet and Glad Day Bookshop.

bullshit. latvis played lead guitar and other instruments for rahowa, a white supremacist band, and wrote many of their lyrics. from 1990 on, latvis was a member of the band, has never divorced himself from their disgusting beliefs (until just now, and only in the form of lying about his history), and wrote many of their most bigoted songs. oh, and he has a tattoo of a swastika, which he claims is really a 'cross of thunder'. sure, kid. and your song triumph of the will is really all about rik emmett rewriting shakespeare.
as for ford, he's a stupid fucking liar, a bigot and like his skinhead buddy, too much of a chickenshit coward to stand up and say what he believes. instead, he expects that the right-wing press will play down the story, excuse his unforgiveable behaviour and make accusations against the people who brought the topic out in the open.
many thanks to anti-racist canada for starting the ball rolling, and to warren kinsella for spreading the story around. now magazine has pushed the news along after the usual assholes at the national post did nothing but claim that kinsella is a liberal spin doctor (no, they really made that a big point in their write-up), that ford loves meeting with citizens (as long as they're also hateful bigots), and restated the ridiculous claim that latvis gave ford and his handlers a different name. yeah, i'm sure that latvis bothered to engage in subterfuge because everyone knows that fuckhead ford would have checked into his background and been very professional about matters. the final claim from the ford (concentration) camp is also ridiculous - apparently latvis wanted to discuss transit with the mayor. no word on whether latvis and ford discussed shipping dissidents and other unsavoury characters to prison camps in boxcars, but i'm sure the mayor's office would just describe that as an improvement on lrts.
it's been interesting to watch the reaction from the city's jewish community. unfortunately the jewish press skews pro-conservative, and the mayor's henchmen were quick to offer an apology to the centre for israel and jewish affairs. cija, of course, quickly restated many of the points that the morons at the national post made, including an attempt to discredit kinsella. it's interesting that cija would brush aside rob ford's connection to a neo-nazi. politics does indeed make strange bedfellows, and i suppose it must just be expedient for a jewish advocacy group to make light of antisemitic hate group representatives when they are invited to meet with local politicians. true friends, indeed.
this fucking bigot ford needs to be removed from office. you might not be queer, jewish, female, a cyclist, a library user, a union member, italian, or a member of any other group who fuckface ford clearly hates, but as long as you're not a bigot, it's obvious that he is not a decent human being or fit for public office.
N. brought home last week's Now from Toronto. In it was a rather late obituary for an old comrade, Murray Bookchin. I've written about him earlier and reading Wayne Robert's fine obituary reminded me of my youth and the unforgettable legacy that Murray has left in me. Things are slowly changing toward his foresight.
He was a real human, with his share of flaws, but he will be remembered for his public intellectualism. He always came second to Rachel Carson, Fritz Schumacher, and Jane Jacobs in the eyes of the media as Roberts points out.
I will cherish the autograph in what I think is his best work, "The Rise of Urbanization and the Decline of Citizenship", and the copy of "The Spanish Anarchists" that he gave me on my first trip to Burlington, Vermont.
House of Commons, Feb 3rd, 2022 Ottawa Canada - Trudeau and Singh are both quick to take sides, make judgements, and immediately express personal opinions in Question Period as they both label the truckers freedom protest as hate ? Being that both Leaders are proclaiming this Protest as hate,, then if Bill C-63 had been enacted at this time then all participants in this protest could be subject to a maximum criminal sentence of life in prison ..
It had been the very first weekend of the new Truckers' freedom protest now forming on Parliament Hill. But this time it's different ? This civil protest brings an immediate reaction from the 2 Leaders in Parliament ? Such a quick reaction and immediate taking of sides is unlike those taken in previous protests like the BLM rioting, the string of Christian Church burnings, the lawless vandalism of historic artifacts and statues, and the First nation pipeline and railway blockades ? There was no such judgement given nor any such condemnation voiced nor any taking of sides, nor was there even any official statements issued for weeks ?
Feb 3rd, 2022 Ottawa Canada - While the trucks, the truckers and Ottawa citizens were gathering on Parliament Hill to begin the freedom convoy protest,, And after the violence, the damage to public property, and the criminal acts perpetrated last Spring and Summer during the BLM protests, and after arsonists had burned, or damaged over 100 historic Canadian Christian Churches in hate and arson crimes committed in and around the time of 2021 Canada Day celebrations, And after violent mobs tore down and mutilated historic statues in Cities all across Canada, And also after the intense and volatile confrontations with First Nations over both past and present issues that saw the throwing of fire at moving trains, rumor's of on-site military-style assault weapons, and the lengthy occupation and blockade of pipelines, roads and railways, and then after Trudeau and Singh had waited weeks before commenting on these violent protests and then when finally making a statement, doing so in a delicate, careful, diplomatic and conciliatory tone while never taking sides, this time both the NDP leader and the Liberal leader are eager to quickly jump right in and immediately take sides before voicing harsh personal judgments ?
House of Commons Question Period - Feb 3rd, 2022 - After Trudeau and Singh waited for a relatively lengthy period of time before even commenting or issuing official statements on the violence and property damage that took place during the many lawless protests last year, and when finally officially recognizing and then when issuing their comments doing so in a diplomatic, soft, understanding, compassionate and keep-the-peace conciliatory way using terms such as : 'meaningful negotiations are needed" or " we must continue working to move forward', or, 'we must all work together', or, 'this behavior is inappropriate ', or ' this is unacceptable but understandable when considering past treatment', or, 'we're all in this together', or 'we must focus on inclusion reconciliation and diversity', and then after a horrific racial incident that took place down in the United States, to bend and go down on knees to publicly show respect and support for the BLM protesters, and to then show further support by granting hundreds of millions in business loans in Toronto to support the black Canadian community, and then also, after refusing to celebrate Canada Day as historic Christian Churches were being burnt to the ground by arson, it seems that Trudeau and Singh don't hesitate this time to instantly condemn the truckers on the very first days of the protest ? And this time both leaders are quick to express their personal opinions using strong negative descriptions such as : 'hate', "occupation', 'terrorism', 'vandalism', 'stealing food from a food bank', 'desecrating historic statues', 'dishonoring Terry Fox and the war heroes', 'flying hate flags', 'spreading hate ' etc etc, , ( and this is just the first few days of the protest )

Feb 13 th 2022 - the Ambassador Bridge, Windsor Ontario - Police successfully clear the Ambassador bridge to traffic,, this week-long protest and sometimes total blockage is over. The Canada Border Services Agency says the Ambassador Bridge border crossing between Windsor, Ont. and Detroit reopened late Sunday Feb 13th.
Feb 14th, 2022 - Coutts Alberta - Arrests are made and Protesters are dispersed without incident on Feb. 14, and traffic is moving again. That same day, the federal government also invoked the Emergencies Act but Coutts Mayor Willett said it didn’t have much impact, saying he believed local police action was responsible for dissipating the blockade.

Feb 21st, 2002 - The Ambassador bridge and Coutts border crossing are clear and open to traffic once again Both were actually already cleared even before Trudeau initiated the start of The wartime Emergency Measures Act ? Two days ago a rather large contingent of extra heavily-armed riot police and a well equipped military force that had vastly outnumbered the few remaining civilian pedestrian protesters had little trouble in persuading them all that the time had come to exit the Hill and to just go back home, NOW ! And so everyone had left this past week-end without incident. A few of the remaining incapacitated trucks had to be towed but those able just voluntarily packed up and left peacefully on their own accord. The 3 week trucker's freedom protest was over and the nightly Parliamentary Hill love-in, hot dog roast, dance party and guest speeches on the Hill are no more. However, although the drastic wartime Emergency Measures Act may never have been necessary in the first place and is definitely no longer needed now, for some reason the Liberals and the NDP don't want to let it go ? Following the weekend conclusion of the Truckers Protest, for some reason when Parliament resumes on the following week the Liberals make strong claims that there still exists a clear and present danger to the Nation so heinous, extreme, and powerful that it still requires all of the antidemocratic, freedom removing and one-sided extreme policing powers that were allowed under the Emergency Measures Act to remain active, alive and fully enforced upon 36 million Canadian coast to coast to coast ? s-s-s Singh and the NDP argue that the Truckers are racists and internal terrorists full of hate for Canada and willing to use violent means to overthrow the Government, (but they offer no proof or evidence of such a claim ),, and in a convincing speech Kody bull sh@t Blois, MP Kings Hants, says the Truckers have seized and occupy many major Canadian Airports, (but he also offers no proof or evidence of the allegation) ? Trudeau's closest and most trusted security advisors including Marco master manipulator Mendicino Public Safety, Jody the juggler Thomas National Security and Intelligence, and Bill the bullet Blair Emergency Preparedness, who all get their daily briefings and receive more intel than anyone else must be fully aware the bridges were cleared without resistance by the local police and that traffic is once again moving normally ? And surely they must be fully aware by now, that as of now the truckers have all packed up on the weekend and left peacefully, and surely they would also have witnessed the peaceful, amicable, polite and respectful social atmosphere each night across from Parliament while police officers stood around chatting with nothing to do ? But they do not testify to this in Parliament, but instead the 3 most trusted of security advisors to the P.M. continue to encourage and promote an alarming picture of an unparalleled extreme danger to the nation that is so threatening and perilous that it cannot be handled in the normal ways by Canadian law enforcement ? All 3 advisors insist that the entire nation must remain bound under the Emergency Measures Act, however, all 3 offer no proof or evidence of any such danger ? Trudeau himself makes a lengthy, passionate and convincing speech in Parliament voicing his own sincere personal belief of the existence of extreme peril and imminent National danger at the borders, on the bridges, in the cities, on the highways, in the banking system, and at the Airports, (but he also offers no proof or evidence of any of this) ? And so, late in the evening of Feb 21, 2022, 2 days after the end of the protest and after the last protestors were cleared from the Hill this past Saturday, Trudeau, Singh and each and every loyal job-securing NDP Liberal MP's use the Canadian Parliament to end Canada's currently installed democracy and replace it with a totally non-democratic system that is ruled under the dark conditions of the Emergency Measures Act ? This loss of democracy will be imposed on 36 million Canadian citizens for at least a 30-day time period ? And there was only 1 man on the planet that can stop this ?
This had all been accomplished by a handful of civil servants in Ottawa without any consultation, permission, discussion, referendum or vote ever offered to the affected 36 million Canadian citizens ?
You have to wonder how such a monumental decision that means the loss of Canada's currently installed and duly elected democratic system and the loss of rights and freedoms for 36 million Canadians could ever be conducted and decided in such a hasty, careless, confused, frivolous, disrespectful, matter-of-fact and patronizing way, ending with a quick vote based on unproven, hypothetical, exaggerated and one-sided gossip like opinions given in one late night session of Parliament ? And now that the vote to maintain the Emergency Measures Act is passed for 30 days, once this imposition period ends, then this exact same process could quite easily be done all over again by those in power for another 30, and then for another 30, and then another and another, all the way to the next Federal election. Does this not seem to be about as close as you can get to a form of coup d'é·tat ?

According to Fort St. John RCMP a report was received at 12:34 a.m. of a fire engulfing Upper Pine Gospel Chapel. Police are investigating the incident.

Camrose RCMP responded to a fire on Dec. 31, 2022 at the small parish St. Joseph Lutheran Church near the village of Hay Lakes. When first responders arrived the church was completely engulfed in flames. Police believe the fire is suspicious and are investigating it as an intentional act.
May 22, 2023 St. Bernard Catholic Church, Grouard, AB. St. Bernard Catholic Church was completely engulfed in flames after fires were intentionally set within its premises. The RCMP have since arrested two suspects as a result of the fire. The building remains unsalvageable.

May 22, 2023 St. Bernard Catholic Church, Grouard, AB. St. Bernard Catholic Church was completely engulfed in flames after fires were intentionally set within its premises. The RCMP have since arrested two suspects as a result of the fire. The building remains unsalvageable.

Camrose RCMP responded to a fire on Dec. 31, 2022 at the small parish St. Joseph Lutheran Church near the village of Hay Lakes. When first responders arrived the church was completely engulfed in flames. Police believe the fire is suspicious and are investigating it as an intentional act.
May 22, 2023 St. Bernard Catholic Church, Grouard, AB. St. Bernard Catholic Church was completely engulfed in flames after fires were intentionally set within its premises. The RCMP have since arrested two suspects as a result of the fire. The building remains unsalvageable.

Two homeless people died of Monday night's cold. The first was a man whose cold body was found in an abandoned truck at Davenport and Lansdowne, not very far by foot from my home. The second was a man who was found unconscious in a TTC shelter on the southwestern corner of Yonge and Dundas, amid the glowing but heatless lights and screens of that neighbourhood's square, later dying.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital after he was found slumped in a bus shelter at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Police at the scene said the freezing temperatures undoubtedly played a role in the death of the man, who was dressed only in jeans and a T-shirt.
Police say the man was also wearing a hospital bracelet.
He was transported to St. Michael's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Temperatures reached a low of -14 C overnight with a wind chill around -18 C.

Camrose RCMP responded to a fire on Dec. 31, 2022 at the small parish St. Joseph Lutheran Church near the village of Hay Lakes. When first responders arrived the church was completely engulfed in flames. Police believe the fire is suspicious and are investigating it as an intentional act.
May 22, 2023 St. Bernard Catholic Church, Grouard, AB. St. Bernard Catholic Church was completely engulfed in flames after fires were intentionally set within its premises. The RCMP have since arrested two suspects as a result of the fire. The building remains unsalvageable.
