i'll be i was late for work today because this shot took much more time than expected.. :)
i need to clarify a few things: it seems that most of you think that my inspiration came from the Pale Man character from Pan's Labyrinth (i didn't even see that movie, and yes, i know i should see it!). Well, I'm sorry to shatter that thought, but my inspiration came from an on-stage performance of Soan from the french talent show La Nouvelle Star.
i drew the eye on my left hand, and then cloned it on my right, because i couldn't draw a decent one with my left

"That whole dress would only fit around my damn arm!", responded MARIANNE JAMES of ' Ultima Recital ' Nouvelle Star (the French version of American Idol) in response to a vendor's request that she would look fabulous in the leopard print ' Josephine Baker ' dress that truly was for a 12 year old.
Indeed, Marianne James would look fabulous in anything and she could carry it off with flair! So, actually the most fun find at the brocante, was not the wild dress, but the ex-opera singer turned darling on the panel of judges of Nouvelle Star, the French version of American Idol.
The show has launched the careers of Julian Dore and Christan Willem
As well as several other modern French singers. Marianne's outrageous comments and her over-the-top outfits make her a magnet for drag queens around France. Her personality on TV is 100% fun and joyful. She is a beautiful woman but gets cutely shy when complimented, which is what I could not stop doing when I met her.
We have watched the show and, ye, it's for the newly discovered stars, but it really is all about Marianne James.
She has a gregarious personality that is just a magnet for fun. So, we chatted about her previous career as an opera singer and he new gig. She may be fun on the show, but she takes he job very seriously. "We try to find unique new French singers that can hold their own to our classic French singers." , she said.
We chatted about the winners. I gushed how I found Julian Dore to be a front runner from the moment he hit the stage. His new cd Bioche is good. Both of Christopher Willem's cds are in my French music collection.!
Marianne's joyful personality and her professional singing background really bring credibility to France's version of American Idol.
The true gem find at the brocante at the bourse. ( flea market at the stock exchange ) was truly diva Marianne James who was so fun when I took her photo. She stated, "We have to take a photo together !"
If any star can fit into charm, class and fun it is Marianne- a true treasure found at the brocante.
So of course you want to know what other brocante gems I found, right?
I took a chance on a photo that looks like Georges Sand for 5, a postcard of the Paris Expo 1937 for 3, and some old stamps for 4.
The Barbie and Ken expo must be following me around for I found an old 1965 View-Master set of Barbie Tours the World ( 1 euro).
There were three old Heidi books from the 1940 ' s for 5, Hey, I'm Swiss, I can't help it..
The prize went to the 4 euro photo of naughty girl from the turn of the century. Don't worry, it was censored. Someone tore off her naughty bits. Early censorship.
So I left the brocante quite happy with my various encounters and purchases. While walking towards home I come across a young girl handing out flyers for the very same brocante. I took one, i'm polite after all, and told her I had a great time there.
She beamed, "That's wonderful.", when I showed her my prize purchase, a
1920 ' s Swiss Tissot watch with a bizarre link band. Granted the watch does not work, but I saw a similar watch with the famous name for 125 euros at another dealer.
The lady who sold me the Heidi books smiled when I said, "I can't help it. I love old watches. I don't care if they work or not."
She smiled, and responded, " of course you love watches. You're Swiss!"
In one of many Bangkok shopping centre, i bumped into a small crowd of fans, photographers, journalists, following this group of young womens. They were trying perfumes, hairstyling products, browsing and posing in front of shampoos. I asked a few questions and discovered it was a group of girl from a new reality tv show in thailand (almost the same as pop idol or StarAcademy in France).
So I decided to shop nearby and tried to catch a sight from one of them...
