その周囲は、まるきり乾いていた。
気味悪がったリサは、ワイミーズハウスで一緒に育った兄、グリスへ電話で報告する。
連絡を受けたグリスは、しばらく考え込んでから、リサにノートに触れ、ページを繰るよう指示した。
装丁の裏表は黒一色だったが、そこには名前が書かれていた。
名前は、今朝のニュースで見たニューアーク国際空港で墜落したパイロットの名前だった…

ニアは、その事件を担当していた。
しかし、彼は、突然心臓発作で亡くなる。

彼は、すぐに連絡する。日本の捜査官松田へ。
イギリス。ノースノーフォーク海岸。
