Scenic south West coastline. The fiords of New Zealand are all located in the southwest of the South Island, in a mountainous area known as Fiordland. The spelling 'fiord' is used in New Zealand rather than 'fjord', although all the maritime fiords use the word Sound in their name instead. The Marlborough Sounds, a series of deep indentations in the coastline at the northern tip of the South Island, are in fact drowned river valleys, or rias. The deeply indented coastlines of Northland and Auckland also host many rias, such as the Hokianga and Waitematā Harbours. New Zealand has fifteen named maritime fiords, listed here from northernmost to southernmost. 13677

Ruakākā is a small town in the north of New Zealand approximately 30 kilometres south of Whangārei in the Bream Bay area. Originally a small beachside community, Ruakākā has seen development due to its proximity to the expansion of the country's only oil refinery at Marsden Point during the 1980s.

The St. Joseph's Maori Anglican Church in Awanui, Northland

This is my first attempt at star shots....taken at Spirits Bay, Northland, NZ.

For my friends on here that do star shots regularly, I would love to hear some tips on post processing. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

This little Church can be seen from the road as you drive from Matakohe to Ruawai , I was lucky that I just so happned to be there around dusk as fog drifted in .

Early morning light, vibrant autumn colours and a layer of fog set the atmosphere at Northland, Ont., as Canadian National's Agawa Canyon Tour Train races towards "Canyon" on the former Algoma Central Railway.

Today, Watco announced that tickets have gone on sale for the upcoming season. The Tour Train is slated to resume operations on August 1st and will run until October 10th. Get your tickets for peak colour while you can because I'll suspect they'll go fast!

For the first time in nearly a decade, an Ontario Northland passenger train graced the rails from North Bay to Toronto. In May 2021, the provincial government announced plans for Ontario Northland and Metrolinx to resume rail operations between Toronto and northeastern Ontario with a 13-stop route to begin service by the mid-2020s. This morning, local officials and ministry personnel travelled the entirety of the line from North Bay to Toronto’s Union station aboard a three-car “test train” to gather data and further develop a plan for the anticipated revival of service. Here, the train is seen gliding through the snow-covered landscape as day breaks at Scotia, Ontario

Flamborough...East Yorkshire.....Much more to see viewed large.

What a great little bay and beach this is. On a sunny day like this North Landing offers a great place to bathe, swim, kayak and watch nature. It is also close to Bempton cliffs where high numbers of seabirds can be found.

Last night's sunset over the Northland Fountain in Kansas City, Missouri. I caught some nice blue skies mixed with the sun's last kiss of orange on the horizon. The Northland Fountain is one of three KC Parks fountains that remains on year-round.

Now operated by Watco, the Agawa Canyon Tour Train passes by the mile 23 marker as it makes its return southbound trip to the Soo.

The Northland Green Gecko is found only in the Northland region of New Zealand, north of Whangaroa. It is vivid green, with gray or gold highlights, on either side - along the dorsal edges. Males have a blue band along the sides, below the limbs, and the underbelly of both sexes is bright pale green and sometimes with a yellow tinge. Growth is to 200 mm.

Throw switches, road-worn vans, and ABS sentinels -- the date might suggest otherwise, but these vestiges of railroading day's gone by are still commonplace on the Ontario Northland.

Note: unfortunately, the iconic station and signal bridge at Swastika was demolished earlier in the spring.

EN: Ore train 9174 of Northland Ressources, hauled by three GreenCargo Rm locos, makes its way along lake Torneträsk, seen between the stations of Kaisepakte and Stordalen. In 2014 these Northland trains made their traffic additionally to the well known LKAB trains. But Northland Ressources stopped production, when the price of ore decreased during 2014.

More misty rain in the hills. We had been to Mitimiti to see the grave of a well known artist from our city and were now heading for 90 mile beach. I wasn't in the car for this one as I remember trying to get the trees almost in contact.

Have a good week ahead.

Looking out over the lagoon on the way to Pandora Bay. We opted to not take to boardwalk bridge as we were heading to the bay, but did go back this way to see if it was easier.

Here's a typical scene around Ontario Northland's shops in North Bay in the mid-70's.

Sunrise view from Mount Horokaka in the Tangihua Forest, a landmark of the Whangarei/Dargaville area consisting of mainly podocarp broadleaf forest and some kauri. Northland is the northernmost of New Zealand's regions, often called the Winterless North because of its mild climate. The clear-felled area in the background is likely to be a recently harvested plantation forest of Pinus radiata (Monterey pine) which was first introduced into New Zealand in 1859 and today 89% of the country's plantation forests are of this species.

Thanks for viewing my photos, I really appreciate you taking the time, and for the faves and comments you make thank you.

Mid winter sea scape, from my house this morning

These dunes are constantly changing, even in an environment like this you will allways find life.

Life is full of suprises, some good, some bad, I find in this day and age, being able to adapt and be open to change gives us the where with all to survive the challenges of the harsh environment that we live in.

On a frosty winter's morning, CN detour train no. 188 (Hornepayne to Taschereau) kicks up snow as it races south on Ontario Northland's Ramore Sub at Englehart, Ontario. Once in the yard at Englehart, 188's power would be cut off, re-fuelled, spun around the wye, and then hooked on to the opposite end of the train. From there, a fresh crew would take the train up to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, where it would be handed off to CN. Due to a derailment at Haileybury and the north leg of the wye at Swastika out of service, several detour trains completed the circuitous run over ONR's Kapuskasing, Devonshire, Ramore, and Kirkland Lake Subdivisions via Englehart to get between CN's interchange points at Hearst and Rouyn-Noranda.

CN train 631, the Tour of the Line passenger train, nears Northland on its journey northwards to Hearst.
