The Cree Indians held that the Aurora was part of life's circle and were the spirits of the dead who remained in the sky but apart from their loved ones.
The Cree believed that the lights were spirits of these departed friends and relatives trying to communicate with those they had left behind on earth.
My husband snapped this last night of me sitting on the bench at North Point waiting for the Northern Lights to come out. All we seen was this for a hour so we went home. But it was awesome to just watch this.
Well, this just happened, not in Alaska!
11/11/2025 Aurora Borealis as seen from the midwestern United States
A solar storm flared up in the sky right at twilight and continued non-stop for 6+ hours along the Lake Superior coastline at Whitefish Point on October 11-12th 2017.
Going to bed last night around 10 I thought I could see the lights to the north. We got in the jeep and went out north to the turn around and got 4 stunning shots till the clouds came in and covered the sky.
Another hand held attempt to capture the Northern Lights over Cheyenne this evening. I rushed shooting this with no tripod.
Report from a photo trip to Lofoten - 19
This is a panorama composed of two photos. They show Storsandnes Beach near Leknes on Lofoten. A panorama of the aurora is a little tricky. The northern lights change noticeably between the two photos if the exposure time is too long, and then the partial images no longer match. It took me several attempts to finally get an acceptable panorama.
The image shows the view to the north. The constellation of the Big Dipper can be spotted here pretty much in the middle of the sky in the reddish part of the aurora.

He said the clouds lifted around 12:30 and he took a beautiful shot. Maybe next time. Getting to old to stay up so late. But this is what I got.

Northern Lights above Taber Lake - Not the best night for lights considering all of the clouds but at least I was home by 10pm!
The clouds however do add another dimension of interest mixed in with the stars and colors. November 12, 2025.
Taber, Alberta, Canada.
First decent ones from this season. Few previous attemps were not a success, but last night, yeehaaa!
Taken in the north Atlantic about 150 miles south west of Iceland on board the cruise ship Ambience. Captain Egel very kindly switched off the deck lights to allow these phots to be taken.
